How is mentioning one person over another any different than the scenario you've described? Just because you're not explicitly saying that they're more popular doesn't mean that it's not implied.

Popularity is overrated anyway. Who cares if someone's popular?

I'm not thread bashing - just hijacking!!

I agree w/ M. Even though you don't come out and say it - you are still implying it....

Amen.

This seems sort of CD related, too. There are TONS of FIRSTers who don't post on Chiefdelphi, and won't have a clue who DJ or Brandon or any of them are.

I agree, this thread is silly :p

dickymon 24-07-2003 20:53

sigh...

in my experiance, FIRST competitions have and always will be a social event. over all the competition, science, and "gracious professionalism" have been lover's spats, fights, cliques, groupies, loners, sadness, crying, joy, and friendship. it's a social setting, and with it comes popularity. you can't avoid it. granted, FIRST is filled with the smartest and brightest high school has to offer, and those few are often overlooked and unpopular, because of that. they are unlike the others. don't get this passive-aggressive "i hate high-school" and "i hate popularity" until you understand the mechanism of the thing. you are all guilty of standing in the social hierarchy. Landon, i know you are, i watched you and participated in the exclusion of a few from our circle. and everyone else, i know you are all guilty of prejudice, of first impressions. it's the very nature of the human animal. so before you try to go off in some protest about how this thread is representive of the social evils inherent in the high school social system, save your words and think carefully, lest you become a hypocrite yourself.

that is all.

Wow, this thread turned into a mess. I'm sure Tytus did it as a pure joke. It's an all-around joke, not being serious.

As a matter of fact, Dicky, you're wrong. You see, I have yet to become a victim of the "popularity scene", for I, have never had a friend. In fact, I have never been exposed to social contact throughout my entire life, for my parents have me locked in the attic of my house, with nothing other than a television, bed, and rocking horse in the living space I make my home in, if one would go so far as to call it a home. To further explain my situation to the world, I'm not even on robotics. I'd love to be able to build a robot and go to competitions, I've heard so many wonderful stories about it from you, and other people who post in this community. I lied, but please don't hate me, I was trying to be a cool guy. I wish I was popular, so I get upset when people talk about popularity around me, I'm very insecure.

don't worry, you can seek the help you need by shamelessly defacing yourself in the redicule of other's shortcomings.

Does that mean having my ego completely inflated to the size of Africa, then playing it off as if it didn't effect me at all by saying it was all a joke to begin with like the popular guy in this forum? He must be so cool, I wish I could meet him some day... my mom never let me have green hair. What was his name again?

Kristina 24-07-2003 22:32

Hey guys, this has gone way off topic. Take it to AIM or PM's if you really need to get it out of your system, this is not the place to be bickering.

Katie Reynolds 25-07-2003 11:13

Though I'm sure Tytus started this thread in good fun, maybe it should be closed to avoid any future arguements about this.
