FIRST themed rooms

Who out there has their bedroom or dorm room dedicated to FIRST? I know I can't be the only one. See the picture for the evidence.

Jessica Boucher 20-06-2001 17:07

lol.....

Does FIRST know youve been yoinking their signage? ;)

BTW, ask Lora about her room ;)

i dont think ive ever heard someone say 'yoink' outside of me and my friends...or add '-age' to the end of a word except for me and my friends and the movie theatre the other day where the directions around the parking lot before the movie used the word signage

Well, "yoink" was used in The Simpsons (Marged "yoinked" a washcloth from Homer). Okay, but anywho, those are a lot of signs, I always wondered where they went after competitions, but I wouldn't have ever guessed it was to your bedroom. :-) Didn't anyone ever ask you where you got that from when you were walking around with them?

oh yeah...i completely forgot about that...
im pretty sure thats where me and my friends got it in the first place

David Kelly 20-06-2001 19:07

We've never been caught in action, at least not yet. All of those signs were from '99 and '00 and the cleptos that snached those have since gragiated.

Actually we've been cutting back on the recon missions because it was starting to get out of hand. But it does look great in my room:D

P.S. The Simpsons is the greatest TV show of ALL TIME!!

Thanks Jess...and yeah, my room is a FIRST haven...I'll have to take some pics before I need to pack up to move to RIT. One entire wall is 4 years of pins...another, the medals I've picked up...1998 participation and 2001 NE and National Division gold...though, those are somewhat hidden in the corner. Not the most important thing to me.

Another wall is litterally a collage of pictures of my FIRST-a-holic friends right above my computer. Ummm..lesse...my door is a Bobcat Robotics flag with the 2000 and 2001 team pics above it, and the Flashbacks team pic above that. My bookshelf has been covered in FIRST manuals, videos, the ball Tammy gave me from Nats this year, and random engineering textbooks that I don't even begin to understand - but they look cool :)

Even my computer is covered in a 69 driver sticker and pictures of 69's 1999 bot and the 1999 Bobcat. My bed is half covered in tie dye and surrounded by pictures. I can also go over 2 weeks straight without wearing the same or identical FIRST shirt twice. Not to mention the random robot parts that I've somehow managed to collect over the years. Yeah, I LIVE as a FIRST-a-holic. My mom's just given up at this point ;)

And I was just happy to have the Judge's Award trophy sitting on my desk for awhile.... (it was before we presented it to the sponsor)

FIRST knows now

Well some of us at FIRST now know where our signage has gone too. It's nice to see it being put to good use.
(but you didn't hear me say that) :O)

Mike Soukup 21-06-2001 10:45

What about cubes?

What about all the engineers' cubes/offices? I've got a 4'x2' printout of this year's playing field and the medals our team received this year. Hopefully I'll get some goodies from other teams next year.

Mike

Karl 21-06-2001 11:26

Signage?

You call that signage? That aint nothing. You just don't know

-Karl, Who was on a team with a guy that made off with an entire division banner.

Nate Smith 21-06-2001 13:04

I'm working on it...

I'm trying to put together everything I've collected over the years to do something like this...I've also started on my car =) Now, if I could just afford to get those custom plates...

Matt Reiland 21-06-2001 17:34

Office Cube

My cube right now is covered with little pictures of robot parts or mechanisms that I got at reigonals and nationals. Each one is a specific element of a robot that was either ingenious or so stupid simple and effective that I needed to have it in front of me to remind me of just what can be done with a plastic crate of parts. People stop by all of the time and actually ask me if students and engineers actually designed and built these things. To people outside of first, this whole concept is pretty amazing, as it should be.

volleygrrl234 21-06-2001 18:52

We have made off with a huge sign from the regional competition in FL this year. It is our biggest to date. But I haven't stolen any.. it was all the other kleptos on our team! We just continue the tradition! Dave-o~ you gave away the secret!

Christina 21-06-2001 19:22

kleptos

Wow...I never realized that FIRST had so many kleptos in it. :D So, that's where they all get started. ;) Hmm...I don't know where any of my FIRST stuff is, honestly. Other than the fact that I have quite a few photo albums of FIRST pictures. And I apparently have this thing with collecting other teams shirts. Well, maybe not...I only have three. Two from 250 (one from 2000 and another from this year) and a Beach Bot 330 shirt from Joe. And, if I win the baby pool, perhaps I'll get another one. :) And, btw, donations are always welcome. :D

We're pretty close to being out of them unfortunately. :( There are a couple left kicking around but we were mostly saving them for sponsors. And even then if some are left there are some people I owe them to as favors and don't have any to go to them now. So unfortunately, no t-shirts. :(

Right after I posted this I realized Lora meant next years shirts. I'm rather slow at the moment. Well, it all comes down to whether or not we have enough money to buy enough shirts. Ah, money, wouldn't that be nice....

volleygrrl234 (CT), we won't tell them about that sign that was at KSC. It was the best. I don't know how Qasim got it. Don't you have something to with the one at the comp in michigan that puder dude was at? you know what i am talking about. and i also have the S------S banner if you want it.

The Wall

Well,

I don't have anthing as elaborate as some in my room. But in my room at home I have a wall with misc awards, certificates, diplomas, etc....most of them however are FIRST and FIRST medals ;-) ;-) Also when I am @ school I usally hang a blue print of the current field on the wall for the "what the heck is that" factor. ;-) ;-)

EddieMcD 22-06-2001 10:29

Hmm... Maybe I should start doing that to my room. I do have a couple more years before college. Let's see: I've got tons of collectables (pins, etc), a team shirt autographed by both Lord Kamen (Dean) and Woodie, a few other things. Now if only I could get the computer upstairs without my mom noticing...

Elgin Clock 22-06-2001 18:16

????

Whay are these rooms in the pictures so neat???? I thought every teenagers room was a pigsty. Mine is!! Oh wait a minute......I'm not a teenager anymore, oops!!

mike o'leary 23-06-2001 05:07

ahhh...messy rooms

my dad keeps yelling at me to clean mine and i keep yelling at him that if he doesnt like it the way it is dont go in and that i shut the door for a reason...he doesnt like my logic though, i have no idea why...

EddieMcD 25-06-2001 19:08

My room is synonymous with messy. You should see my school binder and backpack. "Disorganized" is my middle name. I have bad handwriting (AKA: heiroglyphics (sp??)). People just expect it out of me. Ironicly, my locker was always clean.

David Kelly 25-06-2001 21:35

When I took my picture I made sure to not show my floor. You really don't want to see it.

Joel J 25-06-2001 22:50

...

Cad drawings of the 2001 field next to my room's door, that's about it....

-Lori 28-06-2001 12:52

And you wonder why the registration fees are so high....we have to buy new signs every year!

Yeah, that would make since. The kids that were doing all that have gragiated from our team, so HOPEFULLY we won't have that problem anymore.:o :o

Oh yea? Any of you guys got floppies on yer walls?

I snagged two floppies, a red from chicago and a blue from nats which is signed by the chair of motorola and dean (missed woody) and mounted them on my walls. The blueprints of 2000's fields fell off my wall, there are awards and buttons galore, as well as various FIRST yearbooks and other related items floating around my room. But the most noticable are definitely the wall crawlin' floppies... B^P

Molly Menges 28-06-2001 21:35

floppies...

one of my friends (and former team mate) has a red floppy on his wall...actually, it and a calendar are the only things he has on his walls...so the floppy REALLY stands out. :)

molly

Robby O 28-06-2001 22:17

Touchet madame

Parry, parry, thrust, thrust, block, engaurde, parlevou france? :p Good, well, neither do I. However in addition to those floppies I do have a 7 foot cardboard cutout Gungan sportin the Dew. And ah course since Dewis practically what keeps us workin, It's not entirely off topic.

PS: Although I have yet to, um, yoink a FIRST sign, I dont really plan to. But I was tempted by the 10th Anniversary signs... man how much fundraising FIRST could do by auctioning those things off... Then again it would be donated from the same people who already spend loads attending thier events. But man, would it be worth it to get a FIRST sign AND have a CLEAR CONCIENCE! ;) I wonder if any of the kleptos have ever started up a conversation with Dean, Woody, or any other official and repeated in thier mind over and over: "Dont mention I yoinked signage, dont mention I yoinked signage, dont mention I yoinked signage...". And what would thier reaction be if someone brought a yoinked sign for them to sign...:p man... and I wonder if I could stop rambling and get some... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

I have an entire playing field setup in my room. The Bridge is a makeshift bed a Cyber Blue thingy on my wall and a whole wall of bagels.

Hola CT:D (The most talented person on the Cyber Blue Robotics Team.)

Yeah, your parents are nice. We talked about how fast you were driving and almost caused a wreak in the parking lot at Formula K.:p And that they are thinking about taking away your liscense because of it. Man, you are terrible. I got to see the inside of your HUGE house. At least it's not as big as the brain surgon next to you. But it's big enough. Tony even tried on some of your clothes;) :D :p

Have fun on the "Out West Trip!!" Make sure you guys return without Qasim. You could even push him off of the Grand Caynon! Especially after what he said about your body parts:eek: I guess I'm going to have to resort to making fun of Libby and Jessi when you're gone. I'll make sure J.P. is waiting for you when you return.

Audios, Dave-O

P.S. U no i kant spel, jst lok at mi anglish an espanor gradz;)

floppies

I got 2 floppies, though they're not on my wall. I have a red one and a blue one. I honestly don't remember how I got them, but I have them. I used to wear them on my head. Yeah, I know, a bit weird, but hey, it was fun.

~Christina šoš

Does anyone or any team have a floppie (preferably red) that I could buy off them? I want to mount a floppie on my wall wherever I go because that was my first year with FIRST. Interesting trades considered.

Patrick

Jessica Boucher 01-07-2001 10:39

Ok, is it just me, or....

....does your teams stuff just magically disappear as well? I totally forgot there were blue floppies, cause we bought red fabric and made a whole lot of red ones. But I can only find the one thats biolted to our teams storage closet wall.

Same goes for yellow balls....we didnt care what color they were this year in practice, so we basically used them 2 years in a row...but those are all almost gone too (ok, ok, so I asked to yoink one before I left, but thats besides the point).

I mean, I know theres a lot of packrat teams out there, but do you seem to be missing a lot too?

No, you're not the only one

Somehow a LOT of robotics stuff seems to work it's way to my house. Including signs, floppies, balls the Robot. Yes, I do sometimes take it home over the summer.:p

Those floppies sure do make nice pillows. I prefer the blue floppies over the red.;)

They are from the game in '99. They had velcro in the center and all around the outside edge. They were filled with styrophome packing peanuts.

Here is a pic

ok now it makes sense. Thanks

Picture this, very slick fabric, cut into a round shape. filled with packing peanuts.

or, picture this:

Notice how the shape of each one was different. they were very .. well.... floppy. (one in the picture was folded in half)

One of the harder objects to manipulate that first has dreamed up.

We won an award for our pickup mechanism. (conveyer-belt pickup system, picked them up everytime)

Jessica Boucher 04-07-2001 11:21

Wondering......

.....how they came up with the name floppy (other than the obvious)...how they dealt with it having the same name as a "floppy" disk...and what other names they came up with.

Pamela 05-07-2001 22:34

Floppy=pillow

When I'm sleepy I grab my floppies to use as pillows, they are so great and comfy :)

Amadkow 06-07-2001 11:11

Yeah I was just thinking that they look like they would make good pillows.
