Anyone recived their FIRST-SME cards yet?
Anyone know when we are supposted to get them?
I never got mine last year, not even late did it come. :(

Good question. I registered long enough ago to even get to vote on what the card looks like. Stoopid voting. Ugly card.

Really, it's kinda cool, just not as cool as some of the ones you could have voted on.

Oh, and here's why we haven't gotten them yet:

"2002 FIRST-SME Partnership card; it will be mailed to all participants starting in February. If you register after February 1st, your card should be mailed to you approximately three weeks after you complete your registration."

I voted for number 5, the winning design. I liked it and I knew it would win so I voted for it. :D :p

Febuary 16th, no cards yet to any memberes of my team.

No cards to our team either.... :::cries::: - what is it with things being shipped late? First there was our Shipped to Teams stuff, then our SME Cards and I ordered things from Newark, Anderson Power Products AND Innovation First last Wednesday... for standard overnight shipping... AND THEY STILL HAVEN'T COME!!!! :::cries again::: :rolleyes:

Well the catch is - they aren't late yet. SME posted on their site that they wouldn't even be starting the mailing until February 1st, and there's no end date - so unless you get to Nationals without one, then it's really not late. :)

That said... SME has always been a tad..... slow..... at mailing those things out. I'm not sure if it's the printer, or how they are collecting data - or if they are simply trying to save labor costs by hopefully getting all the registrations out of the way before mailing (I used to work in the mailroom of State Street Bank, so I know more of my fair share in that one... *shudders*)

I'm disappointed in the design... I thought some of the others were much nicer, and much less cluttered looking so that you could (god forbid) actually READ someone's name on it... but then, that's just my opinion... :rolleyes: But eh... I signed up on the first day you could anyway :)

I think mine is going to be hopelessly lost in the mail since it's getting mailed from SME to my old address in Massachusetts... and then trusting in my local Post Office to forward it down to Knoxville..... :rolleyes:

ok why was that design chosen, it was the stupidest one, along with that really simple one. I must have voted/signed up in November or December, i thought id get my card early or on time, but i guess not huh.

Ah yes anoother FIRST collectors item, I just got mine yesterday (2-20-02) and I'm sticking with my opinion that the design we chose this year sucks!

I don't like it that the name is so small...

I also don't like that the card's orientation is at a 90 degree angle as the text when you wear it like they want you to. I'll just get out my Duct Tape and make a custom holder for it!
Simple 'Nuff.

A reason to use the mill!!!
I want to but a hole in the excat center so that it wont lean to one side or the other when I wear it so that the text is horizontal rather than vertical.

Although I do admit that the card looks better in person, it is still ugly, but I like the test area design I chose. I got mine today (2-21-02) and like it. Too small of print.

Well, it seems that all of my team members, EXCEPT FOR ME!, got their's by today. Maybe it's my last name (starts with a "W") or just the fact that i always seem to get everything late. Oh well, as long as it comes within 3 weeks, so i can wear it to the regional, cause i'm going to assume you'll need it there.

I like your thinking, but i am going to have to go with the drill press idea. It will keep the card looking better, unless you tape over the whole card and just create your own design...

When I finish my custom holder I'll post a picture of it and then you'll decide if you like it or not... maybe I'll make a bunch of them to hand out at the comps!!!

bah, what a stupid design! i was trying to get it on without scratching the card, but in the end i just gave in to the urge to smash something, so i pushed it on, and now my card is slightly scratched. :D oh well, i didn't like this design anways. infact, if you ask me, it sucks, because it's rather hard to read black text on a black/gray background. :) next year, we should have a good design.

i got my card a few days ago..so far only our driver, one of our adult mentors, and our driver have gotten ours..oh well..lol

I also got mine today. I agree with Ian that it was hard to get the neckleace thing. I can live with this card, but I wish a different design had won.

Indeed. Several hours of Delphi a day just isn't enough. :(
I sharpend the blades on my lawn mower just so I could convince my mom to let me make loud noises with the bench grinder.
That and the double bladed mulcher was an interesting challenge...:)

Granted, it was at 10 after 4-5 hours of robotics, and with robotics people, but I think that counts as out...:)
