And as to filling up every three days (I'm not sure if she posted that or not), it depends on how far she travels every day. Don't make a conclusion til you have enough facts. :)

Matt

if its a new car without power windows (and i did know that they make those - a friend of mine just got one) then as you said its not a top of the line car...and mostly the cars that get really good gas mileage are more the ones that are top of the line (notice the mostly: some cars like that do get good mileage, but in my experiance most of them dont)

my conclusion was, granted, based on very few facts, but i was using the ones i had...also: she is a high school student: how far
could she possible drive in 3 days to go through a full tank with good gas mileage?

Matt Leese 14-06-2001 14:50

I'm not sure what kind of cars you buy but cheap ones tend to have smaller engines (less gas consumption) and are smaller overall (again less gas consumption). Basically a bottom line Dodge Neon (which is fairly cheap) will get much better gas mileage than say a Ford Expedition (can someone explain to me exactly why that vehicle exist?!) which costs a whole lot more. And as she said, she has a very small gas tank (10 gallon by my estimate) so needing to fill up every three days is not unheard of.

Matt who wonders why he's arguing about this....

mike o'leary 14-06-2001 16:37

i didnt mean that they put a monstrous engine in a small cheap car...i meant that they dont put the most efficient engine in it.

and i dont know why im arguing about it either...heres an idea to settle it:
what kind of car do you have molly? and what's its mileage?

I have a quite a story for all of you...

Today one of the new radio stations in our area, "hot 93.7", had a promotion at the local Shell gas station, that involved the public getting gas for $0.937 / gal, all day.......

you know, it would almost be worth it to drive down to hartford from boston to fill up at that rate

1969 VW bug.

You could drive one of those things for hundreds of miles before filling up. To bad they had about 10 dollers worth the safety features...
We had a great refurbished one for a while. We had to sell it to save on the insurence, it broke my heart to see it go.

They still rule.

to help out w/ the confusion...

ok..my car isn't that old. it's a 96' neon. (yea, yea...we can stop the laughing..) :p i drive it all the time and all over town, i couldn't tell you how many miles a day or anything, but it gets quite a few. it has really good mileage, and i bet i would get more if i was a better driver. (at least that's what my dad says..lol..) but yea, i have to put more gas in it pretty much every 3 days, but that's not going from a full tank...if the tank is full, then it takes bout a week, but i usually just try to keep it at about 1/2. so there ya go..lol..the info on my wonderful little transporter. :) well, have a good day!!

oh yea, and baker...being stuck w/ kyle isn't that bad! :D

DUDE! When was that? I dont remember that....

-Jessica B, whose bus driver listens to that station each morning ::cringe:: (no, I dont have a car )

Anthony S. 14-06-2001 21:36

I wish I had a vehicle.

Don't feel bad Jessica. I'm busting my butt working at McDonalds this summer trying to save money to buy a car. I just don't know what to buy. I'll probably have to get something pretty old. My grandmother has a '98 Dodge Neon that is about to fall apart. It doesn't have power windors nor power locks. The window roller fell off one of the doors. Those are cheap cars, but good on the money.

Matt Leese 15-06-2001 08:17

I believe my grandmother also has a '98 Dodge Neon (I was mentally trying to figure out the year and I think that's the correct year) but her's is in just fineshape. I think a lot of it has to do with how well you take care of the car. Then again my grandmother's car is seldom driven. I've never owned one but I have driven it and I find it nice. :)

When I was traveling with my aunt, she got gas for a very reasonable price in Springfield, MA.
