Need IRC help

A few days ago i setup IRC (through trillian) so i could access the tigerbolt First chat room, and had no problem getting into the chat till today. Today i went to join and i recieved this error message "*** #firstrobotics Cannot join channel: Must identify to your nickname to join an unmanaged channel. " and i cant figure out why (probably b/c im new to using IRC).

anyone have any ideas on wut this error means or how to fix it so i can get back into the channel?:ahh:

That's a quirk of the Webmaster server that the Tigerbolt chat is using, it doesn't always do that for some reason...type /nickserv help after you're connected to get information on how to register your nickname.

It is something to do with the server...it does that often though...

The best thing to do is register a nickname with webnet or just use the tigerbolt site.

actually, I think you can just type /join #firstrobotics and bypass it.

If you haven't identified to nickserv, and there are no ops in the channel, it won't let you join even that way. That's when the message he mentioned comes up. So, as has been said, you have to register your nickname before it will let you join an "unmanaged channel" (i.e. one with no ops in it).

First off, I suggest that you switch to XChat (www.xchat.org) It's free and open source.... has a very nice and clean interface for just what you need.

However, if you don't want to change, in Trillian in your account manager for arena.webchat.org (the server tigerbolt's on), go to the perform buffer under server management or something, and make sure you have it do these things on connect:

/nick username; /nickserv identify yourpassword

That way, it identifies you while connecting so that you can enter channels correctly. You could also add ;/join #firstrobotics so that it automatically joins that channel.

Nope, won't work. I've had it configured like that on both mIRC and Trillian almost forever, and if there are no ops in the room, it won't let you join. The identify process takes about a nono-second too long, and you still have to join manually. I suppose you could put in a lag time of a few seconds though.

I've had it configured like that on Trillian and XChat forever and it works fine :)

I suggest switching over to XChat anyway - www.xchat.org !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It works on Trillian as long as you identify before you try to join. For some reason there is a glitch in Trillian Pro 1.0 that you have to go back and enter it in a couple times because it doesn't save...and im not the only person to have this problem
