I believe iF would be more then happy to help with some of the costs (once we get some more money in) and perhaps finding some local sponsors to donate printing etc.

I also think that would be a great idea, especially if it had your user name and avatar on it.

Just some advice from someone who has made ID cards -- do all design work at 900dpi. People tend to examine cards more closely than most printed materials, and 300dpi often doesn't cut it.

:)

A CD Card would be neat, but I don't think the production costs would be worth the value of them.

Someone make a design for a card, and I am willing to bet that Brandon would find room on the server for it.
Make your own and laminate it yourself.

I'd make one, but I bet people want something better looking then just text.

did someone say design contest?

i'd definatly jump that if it is open to the public (assuming it got CD's approval)

Let's see what Brandon says. I think the dimensions of it should be the same size of drivers license. I have some ideas, but I won't start untill Brandon says something.

RAGE ID Cards

RAGE had ID cards which we laminated and wore on lanyards when traveling last year.

I made up a simple Word document using a labels template, took digital pictures of all the team members and manipulated them in Photoshop, printed onto card stock and used a small laminating machine to laminate them.

Our sponsor donated the lanyards for us. It was simple to do and inexpensive.

Team Hammond, with support of the school city, makes regular ID cards for the team (like the ones that the students have for school). They're about the size and thickness as a credit card, durable, long lasting, and may hold up better than a laminated piece of paper.

Maybe if CD or someone has access to a machine like that, a school or organization could let them use it. Really, all you'd have to pay for are the blank cards... There's a lot of potential with this. :)

My design idea for the card IMHO should provide the user with a card that they can show off for practical purposes, to be placed in a card holder or lanyard on shirt so they can display it like a name tag. I'm thinking of having the CD logo on it along with the person's name on it in big letters, followed by CD number, CD user name, and other info TBD.

maybe the CD username should be the bold letters, as CD people who have never met the person face to face will recognize that first.

then below it their real name, and CD #.

Putting the perons team number may not be a bad idea either (although when they switch teams, they would need a new card).

I think that a template made for a CD card that would be posted on the website (in multiple formats, so everyone can make one) would be good. That way, they can change their card when they want too (if their team number, user name, etc changes)

Joe Matt 29-09-2003 17:27

I don't have much homework tonight, so I'll throw toghether a generic template, so we can start a small design competiton. But I'm surprised that Brandon hasn't commented about this yet....

KyleGilbert45 29-09-2003 17:30

wow... it looks like i actually for once had a good idea...lol...

If i wasnt so busy with school work i would help out with the designs but as of now i'm pretty busy...

ID's part 2

I forgot to mention that in addition to the ID card, each RAGE member received an Emergency Card which was also laminated - it had the cellphone numbers of all the adult chaperones and the name and phone number of the hotel we were staying at on it. It was easy to clip to the lanyard so if someone did get separated from the group, they could easily call one of the adults.

Also, the avatar is important, as I recognize many posters on this board by it first, not by their username.

I can put together a design submission as well, but I don't want to start until we get the okay from Brandon.
