Surprise Surprise....
From what I hear, those dupont teams are schemin some major surprises at the Duel. This event is so organized, I can tell you exactly whats going to happen at 11:37AM. A big thanks and good luck to those who planned this event, everything should fall in place.
For all those attending, lets have fun with the driving, get those robots ready, and have some fun. |
FURY is excited for Duel. It'll be our first off season ever so it should be exciting. Unfortunately, due to the SATs and other conflicts we'll only have 3 students and our adviser in the morning :( so hopefully nothing breaks.
|
Miss Daisy has been waiting desperately since MD State Fair to get back out there. We will be ready to DUEL on Saturday. Good luck to all other teams competing.
|
I'll be there!
|
I'm excited to be there!

we would prefer that you not yoink our bins... we can get you some of the MOE-stick paper perhaps.... depends on how the competition goes.
Also.... on the topic of propper yoinkage.... unless you KNOW it is a give-away... please do not yoink. some of those things do not belong to MOE or the Lunatechs... and we would have to find ways to reumburse or replace things that "grew-legs and walked off" I heard that someone tried to steal Mike Wade's large NASA sign last year.... I mean that is just not right guys.... please watch the yoinkage level this year!!! |
No Webcast for Duel
No webcast for the Duel on the Delaware event this year. If everything works out, those of you not in the Northeast US may get a chance to see it next year.
We will post pictures, though! |
Well... the Duel is now over and the field is already packed up. It was a great day though. I think everyone had fun. I myself am totaly exhausted... and in pain. I'll admit that it was not the brightest idea to wear the sneakers that i wore all summer while i worked at camp. Especially since I did not get to sit down, being a ref and all... my feet are KILLING me. I hope to post a few more pictures from today... then sleep. Maybe will write more tomorrow... but what did everyone else think?
|
Well... Uhh.... I got one of those bins :) - some lady said I could take one (now that i think about it, there's a big crack in it)
It was a blast- we experienced gyro difficulties all day long without our engineers or programmers, and actually had to turn our robot slightly to the opposite side of the ramp at every start.. The competition was rather intense especially the playoffs, I belive all four quarterfinals had to go to 3 rounds... We were scared going in our first round as the number 8 seed, facing the mighty team 25- (who i honestly believe is the best robot in the competition).. Anyway, we ended up losing to 222 and 1048 in the finals- we couldn't have done anything with 1218- you guys were our rock! Don't ever think about packing up early again, look at what happened :P (I would put the rankings here but my frail mind is empty) and, man, i cannot tell you how cool that camera was.. $60,000 bucks, man, but worth every cent.. And thanks for the free Red Bull |
Duel on the Delaware was great. The level of competition was awesome. There were SO many good matches. The boom camera was unbelievable. It provided great coverage of all the action. I would like to thank our alliance partners 422-"Mech Techs" and 836 - "Robobees" for their great performances. Hats off to team 222 and 1048 for winning it all. That last match against us in the semis was unbelievable. You guys both have great bots. I really enjoyed myself and I am looking forward to seeing everybody at Ramp Riot. For those going to Bin Bash have a great time. Thanks again to Team 365 and 316 for being such gracious hosts.
|
Thanks everyone!
The volunteers and organizers of The Duel 2003 want to thank all the teams that competed in today's event. Matches were tough and hard-hitting. Thanks to the graciousness on and off the field. I hope y'all had a good time.
Good job to 422 for rounding up the most doggies! Also, congrats to teams 1048 and 222 for winning it all. Runners up 341 and 1218 were great challengers in the finals. Drop us a line with feedback. We hope to see you all next year! |
Thanks for everyone who made this off season what it was. This was Fury's first time attending such a competition and I'm sure it left a good impression on my teammates who could attend. Unfortunately we weren't able to do as well as we had hoped due to various mechanical and programming problems, as well as the fact that we ended up with dead or no-show alliance partners for several qualifying matches. Thanks to 84 and 225 for picking us, as well as team 357 for lending us a hand with our programming during the morning. Also thanks to all the teams that lent us their red light covers throughout the day.
In addition, we also brought several members of our Lego League team to see what a competition was like. They enjoyed it more than most of the high school Fury people. Thanks so much to everyone who answered their questions and gave them pins. Thanks especially to our hosts, team 365. Our kids really appreciated your generosity with your pins, MOEstix, and time. They really enjoyed getting to drive the old robots around and getting the robots explained to them while they were at it. |
Great job 222. Actually, great job to everyone there :) It felt nice to not do anything at all during a competition :)
Also, the laptop we were searching for never turned up. It's an older IBM Thinkpad (I forget the series, but it's a P133 running Windows 98 with a background image of our team). I can't really imagine someone starting the laptop and not noticing that. If _anyone_ has any idea where it could be, let me know at gdh131{AT}psu.edu, thanks. I believe it was left near the rear enterance to the gym. It was sitting on the floor charging. The cord was rolled up but the laptop was missing. |
Wish I could've been there, but I mean 222 was an awesome team at IRI... and I give my hats off to them and congratulate them for their win today. Great job guys! I hope they didn't break anything else with their robot's drive train this time ;) Good job!

Congrats to the winners (and all)
Well, it was a memorable day.
Team 25 personally congratulates the Tigertrons and Manvillians for a great run to the top. As I said to the coach of the Manvillians, now YOU have a title to defend. We'll see in two weeks! My guys had a great time (as always) and our newbies learned some valuable lessons. That was our primary objective this time out. Time to raise up a bunch of newbies...... Thanks also to team 007 from Parkville, Md. for partnering with us and battling to the end. I am sorry we just didn't go farther but we'll get them next time. As we proved today, you can't win them all. But you can ALWAYS do your best. Thanks to the Miracle Workers and Lunatechs for putting on another great event. I especially liked the camera coverage. My guys want us to get one of those booms for ourselves now! WC  (PS- don't forget Brunswick Eruption v. 2.0- The Final Bin Bash - Oct 25 at North Brunswick, NJ - still have some room if you act immediately) |

But as the results of the day showed- no single robot is invulnerable. Miss Daisy did a great job. You know- it was actually quite relaxing to be able to sit and watch the finals for a change. But I don't want to make a habit of it..... Two more weeks to Final Bin Bash. The Tikis are waiting. WC;) |
Great COMP!!!
Big "Thank Yous" go out to the organizers of the DUEL, 316 and 365! John Larock, Pam Halter, Alan Hinde, Bill Enslen and many more!!!! Another amazing COMP!
Hey Duel Players!!! Don't forget to thank the 2 people from NASA that brought the field and worked all day, Mike Wade and Pete Baltzell (the men behind the controls). These comps don't happen without them. You can email a thank you message to Mike and Pete at : mwade@mscmail.gsfc.nasa.gov Congratulations to our opponents in the Finals, 222 and 1048. You were tough competitiors, always in the spirit of FIRST. Thanks to our partner and good friend 1218 Chestnut Hill Academy. We finally got to play on the same team!! See everyone at Ramp Riot on November 15th. |
Don't forget Ron, the MC.
Ron, You did a great job and I hope we can get you next year too! |
Thanks to 1048 for picking us we really could not have done anything without you and thanks for 316 for their valiant if not heroic efforts that eventually lead to their robots demise. thank you all event organizers and all volunteers we know what it takes to run an event and we are glad that other teams have taken on the challenge. Lastly thank you to all the teams that fought us tooth and nail for our stacks and for the ramp we love it when people fight as hard as possible during matches. You folks should have seen our arm after daisy was done with it man those were some intense finals. well See you all at bin bash and ramp riot. We have a title to defend.
|
Once again, congratulations to event winners 222 and 1048, event finalists 341 and 1218, and big thanks to 316 and 365 for organizing this great event. Team 25 will see you all on October 25th for Final Bin Bash!
|
I'd especially like ot thank the drivers of team 314 for giving us such great competition. You guys never backed down, no matter how hard we fought back. It really made for an intense set of finals. It was great playing against you guys.
|
Thanks for a great time 365 and 316
Carl here means team 341...
Since we did not bring a camera with us we are wondering if someone could send us a video of all our final matches and if possible our qualifiying matches? Please email me or private message me so i can tell you where to send them. Thanks Its about time we get the big WIN Thanks again for hosting a great competition! |
Thanks to MOE and the Lunatecs for putting on a great event on Saturday, and that bird's eye camera was an awesome touch.
Also, thank's to Team 25 for choosing to alliance with us, even if our robots were quite battle-weary at the end :). As our team's first off season event, it couldn't have been better! Thanks again! |
thanx for the correction brad...
stupid numeric keypads... |

In regards to Carl's and Brad's questions about the video of the event, I know almost every thing I put on the screen was recorded onto DVDs ( It was input #8 on the Brandywine Electronics beautiful $10,000 switchboard). We might be able make copies of the last DVD. I'll have to talk to some team leaders. |
