FIRST-SME Cards
 

Quick question...

We are a rookie team this year, with plans only to go to our local Long Island Regional.... Is it required that all team members register for FIRST-SME identification cards?? It does not seem to be clearly stated anywhere that this is/is not necessary....

FIRST said last year that they would be required to get into the team parties, but ended up backing off that requirement. This year remains to be seen. However, the information that FIRST gathers throught the SME cards, they need in order to continue getting new grants from different sources. So while it may or may not be required for one reason or another, it seems to be in the best interest of FIRST if you take the few minutes to sign up...

I have no idea what you are talking about and was curious what SME (society of Mechanical Engineering I'm assuming) Cards are for and where would you sign up for them?

SME is the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. The cards were supposed to be you "ticket" into the team parties last year but they didn't get them out in enough time. Plus. like Nate said, it also helps them gather information. So, just take a couple minutes, fill it out, and you get this little nifty card sent to you in the mail. If you want to sign up for one, go to http://www.sme.org/first-sme/index.html and you can sign up for one there.

i totally agree jwith the cards. i am not totally sure of all the things that will require this sort of identification but
THEY LOOK REALY COOL IN MY WALLET!!!

Ah yes anoother FIRSt collectors item, I just got mine and I'm sticking with my opinion that the design we chose this year sucks!

I don't like it that the name is so small...

I also don't like that the card's orientation is at a 90 degree angle as the text when you wear it like they want you to. I'll just get out my Duct Tape and make a custom holder for it!
Simple 'Nuff.

I didn't even get mine yet. :( Everyone else in the entire country seems to have received one, except for me. I think i'm going to go and cry in the corner now. :)

well, we're both on LI, maybe they decided not to send it to us? but no, cause christina's on my team, and someone else on my team just got there's today (and i saw it). grr, i hate it when i get everything last.

i somehow doubt thatm because they assign each name a number, based on when you signed up i assume. i would think they'd mail out by that, but then again, who knows. oh well, hope i get mine today. :D

Don't worry Adam, I ordered mine in the fall for the 2001 competition and didn't get it at all!

Hrm...I ordered in ...before build time. Have you gone and checked the site to makes sure that you are in the system? If you fill out the app again, it will tell you if you are already registered.

I've actually been registered since 2000, but of course you have to redo it every year....silly things.

Got mine 2 days ago, and I registered Feb. 1. Can't wait till VCU, see you there Adam and team 401!

I registered Jan 31, and have not received mine yet

I registered the first day the site was up... still nothing.

Though, I'm not sure if mine is just lost in the postal service loop somewhere....

I went back a re-registered...

Even though I KNOW I registered, it still re-did it all...how confusing.
