Re: Fundraising Idea - Lan Party
That's a good idea...
as long as we don't Ut2k3 or CS. I think maybe Tribes 2 or America's Army would be very good games. |
Re: Fundraising Idea - Lan Party
We tried a LAN party a couple years back. Truth be told, no one showed up. I think it was because of a lack of advertisement. Make sure everyone knows that it's going to happen! Otherwise it's a good idea.
[EDIT] If you end up doing an old version of NS (1.04 is the best), tell me. PLEASE. If at all possible make it online so I can play with you guys. I love NS, but hate what has happened to it. T.T My AIM is SessoFiendJake. PLEASE IM me if you can make it an online NS1.04. Domo. [/EDIT] |
Re: Fundraising Idea - Lan Party
We held two LAN parties last year, and we're doing another one in two weeks. We charge $25 a person, you bring your own equipment, and we provide pizza and soda, from 6pm-8am. We got 50 people for the first two, and we're expecting another 50 this time. After we pay for the pizza and soda, we make about $1000. It has undoubtedly been our easiest and most successful fundraiser.

Re: Fundraising Idea - Lan Party
OMG!!! people stole my idea =P jk... um ya... Me and a friend started hosting weekly lan parties this past week... we got about 12 people... and we are hoping to get up to 32-40 people... We only charge $5 from 6pm-12am for the fact that its for fun... and as of now we are only doing PC gaming... i talked to PitBull 1126 tonight about his idea and teams lan party they plan on doing... Its a great idea and im definatley hoping to do a few for fundrasing reasons soon... but you definatley have to advertise WAY ahead of time... post flyers at local gaming stores, at all surround highschools, and espically those teams involved... Just make sure to have a huge variety of games... from console shooters like Halo, to sports like madden 2k5 or Sega's Sports line, to DDR w/ the dance pads, to the full out PC shooters, and RTS games...
um... if anyone has any questions on how im running our local lan party just im me on Hardcore2xtremes or Heret1c121 |
Re: Fundraising Idea - Lan Party
Where can I find the equipment to run a LAN Party? I don't know of anyone with 2-3 24 port Switches laying around...or 50 ethernet cables. :( Any suggestions would be great.
How does this sound? $20 entrance fee per head. $.50/soda. (Juice/Milk in AM) $1.00/pizza slice. (Doughnuts/Muffins in AM) Random cookies/chips & pretzels for free. Free wifi/xbox gaming in a seperate area for those who want to take a break from pc gaming for a bit. (They can have a wireless card in their gaming rig or a laptop for the wifi). Also, at your guys LAN Parties, did you try to get sponsors like ATI and NVidia? Did you give away any door prizes? Did you run tournaments? Where was it held? Did you seek support of school tech admin? What were the times it was held from? Thanks for any info you can provide. |
Re: Fundraising Idea - Lan Party
For the equipment, I'd suggest having your students poke around their homes for any extra hubs/switches they've got. If your district happens to have some spares, ask for them as well.
And if all else fails, knock a few bucks off for bringing a switch or cable. |
Re: Fundraising Idea - Lan Party
Raise the price on the soda =). By equipment did you mean to include computers as well or no?

Re: Fundraising Idea - Lan Party
We did a LAN Party last year after hearing about others on CD. We held it in our School Library (~40 computers) and ran demo copies of Halo, CS, UT2K3, 1942. We also had 6 team members bring their X-Box's and networked them together and set them up on Projectors in between the library "stacks", to give it a "cave-like" atmosphere. We charged $20/person to play from 8 pm to 6 am and locked in those under 18. We sold pizza / nachos / candy / Rockstars / RedBulls. We cleared $1000 in profit in that one night. It was a huge hit, EXCEPT the Welchia worm hit a bunch of our school & district computers that same weekend by coincidence. Our district IT administrator said never will he allow us to do that again (even though we found proof in the logs, that it wasn't our fault). We've been wanting to do another LAN party, but would have to use our personal computers and X-boxes - and we don't have enough resources for that. And now there are 3 places in town where you can go pay to play network games. Ahh shucks!
