Pesky New Virus, Please Read

Hey everyone,

I figured I'd post this up here and see if anyone else had encountered this, and warn those who haven't.

There's a new virus going around that will disable your anti-virus software and then terminate the executable if it's still running. I have managed to run a full hard drive search for the virus to no avail. I have also tried to uninstall and re-install the software again to no avail.

Apart from leaving my computer extremely vulnerable, I haven't seen it do anything else.

Please post any comments or suggestions or experiences with this virus.

Maybe I'm just being stupid here, but where does this virus come from? Like, is it an attachment in an email?

Sort of unrelated, my anti-virus program scanned at eight o'clock tonight. It said that a virus-like program changed my boot record and I was just searching for some information and ended up at a strange website with hundreds of popups. I thought nothing of it until I got the message that something changed my boot record.

So I selected for it to restore my boot record. About a minute after doing so, it hit me. I just finished installing Linux about two weeks ago and my anti-virus program hasn't scanned since then. I stopped what I was doing and restarted the computer, booting into linux. It says "kernal panic" and the lights on the keyboard start flashing. It stops loading at that point. I think I will have to reinstall Linux now. Haha

Man, I love owning a Mac. ;)

What I recomend doing is uninstalling AIM, running anti-virus, and then start a new user name. Most extreme case would be re-installing Windows, but I doubt that.
