WOW

THAT SO COOL!
I WANT ONE.

That's better than the bin stickers I have on my car.
:yikes:

Ashley Weed 18-10-2003 16:03

Is that legal? I believe in the state of PA, you can't have things on the back window that would distract the drivers vision. Nonetheless... VERY COOL!

/me wants one!

GregTheGreat 18-10-2003 18:03

How Much Would You Be Willing To Sell Them For?

I would love to purchase one or two if possible.

I just had an awesome thought that you may want to take advantage of: Fundraiser! I'm sure you could sell a couple hundred of those things!

Jeremy Roberts 18-10-2003 18:16

Thats really cool. I'd buy one.

Madison 18-10-2003 18:26

I'm very doubtful that you can sell them. It's a copyrighted logo. Did you ask FIRST for permission to use their logo in such a way?

It is illegal in most states to have something obstructing the window.

This would not be problem on a side window, I believe that in many states, rear (back seat) decals are allowed. In any case if FIRST did allow you to sell them to Benoit your team, I would be more than happy to buy a few, along with probably every FIRST-a-holic in the country.

Team Vehicles

This would be cool to put on the vehicles that teams use to haul their robots around.....

You dont have to ask FIRST for permission to use that logo. If you read this document, this document and documents they posted many times in the past, you can use the logo as long as it is in the true form, which it is.

I think its awesome you made that logo Mike, keep spreadin the word of FIRST. :]

[edit] The part regarding the logo is in section 4 [/edit]

If you're going to be selling a product with their logo on it, whether or not you make a profit, you'd better believe that you need their permission to do it.

If you're using their logo while doing something illegal -- covering up the rear window of a car -- then I wouldn't be surprised if they have something to say about it.

Clark Gilbert 18-10-2003 22:39

Seriously Doubt

I seriously doubt that it would be considered an obstruction of view, especially since you can see right through the logo. Have you not ever seen cars (company cars, etc.) with logos on the rear window?

Cool logo, I say use it until someone says something....

sanddrag 18-10-2003 22:50

Sorry for the cross post (1st time ever) but I'm really interested in this.

So, what did you actually make the logo on your car out of? Is it vinyl cut on one of those Roland Stika machines? If no, then what? If so, how did you get the four different colors to line up so well? Thanks.

miketwalker 18-10-2003 22:52

I'd love to get the illustrator file if possible :)

Dan 550 18-10-2003 23:12

That's different.

What is different? Something can't just be different, it has to be different from something else.

Different: Adj. - Unique, Individual

Mike8519 18-10-2003 23:59

Made the Illustrator file then went to my local auto detailer and they took the file, and used one of their decal cutter machines and lined up the layers. Worked very well as you can see. I'm willing to post up the Illustrator file they used if someone can host it. (I would host it on the team 303 space but im redoing it so i dont know how long it would be up).

-Mike

PS: here in jersey as long as the obstrucion isnt large its fine. Most of it is just see through so its not a problem.

Did they charge you to do that? If so, how much?

Mike8519 19-10-2003 00:15

Cost me $40. He put in a couple hours of work because some of it had to be cut manually so it wasnt too bad of a price.

Ryan Dognaux 20-10-2003 22:32

I'm waiting for someone to get that on both the sides and hood of their car... but at least that's a FIRST step.. ha,ha,ha.. okay McFly, I'm done :)

Anthony 20-10-2003 23:34

I WANT ONE

When you get that on a website, can you post where it is. I will have to run to my dealership as quickly as possible. Also, I know somebody who might be able to put them on car magnets I think I might get some for the sides, and yes the hood of my car for when competion comes.

David Kelly 20-10-2003 23:44

Ive got a couple of Adobe Illustrator FIRST logos hosted on indianafirst.org. You can find them both here http://www.indianafirst.org/images/FIRSTlogos/

first logo mod.ai is one that i requested and FIRST1.ai is one that i created/ modified.

I give you permission to use them however you want as long as it is promoting FIRST in a positive manner, as what it says in the FIRST pubs.

Enjoy 'em! :]

In certain states it is illegal...check your local laws, other then that there is nothing wrong with it.

Anyway David never said anything about selling them. He said that you don't need FIRST's permission to display that, which is true. Selling them would be illegal, but if you did it as a fundraiser by "donation" donate 20 bucks and we'll give you one of these, thats you're loophole around that.

It's nice to know some lawyers :p

mtaman02 21-10-2003 00:15

That's Awesome I just hope it doesn't get you into any Legal matters b/c states will or will not let you obstruct the rear window let alone Copyrighted logos. But anyways as a First A Holic to another excellent job I'd buy one of you but Don't have a car yet!!!!!

Gadget470 21-10-2003 07:47

Folks.. he is willing to do something legal. Give you a copy of the FIRST logo for free. In the form of the illustrator file.

He said how he got it done, went to an auto-detailer and they made it.

Why would you want to buy one? All the steps are already there, and if you want the job done right, you should take it to a professional anyway.

A lot of the cost in making custom things like this is the inital setting up of the printer/cutter/manufature machine. Thats why costs tend to go down with bulk orders, that inital setup is spread out. So if someone was able to order 1 at $40, but mayhaps 10 would only be $200, then it would make sense for one person to order then sell them for $20 each.

Also, I know one local place that we goto that does this sort of thing dosn't like making just one, they prefer to run things in batches.

I've been looking into window clings, much like you see with college names.

Clear Decals

Last year I made some static clings using Invent It! Decal material for the computer. Worked great, but you can't see them through the tinted rear windshield that I have... I used the RAGE bulldog logo...

Invent It! is no longer in business, but you can still find the computer printer material (t-shirt iron-ons, etc.) at outlet stores (or maybe on e-Bay?). I'm sure other companies make similar affordable products.

Ryan Albright 21-10-2003 11:57

if you send me the file i will host it i pm'd you look for it
