Halloween Costumes

So, what is everyone going as? Do you go out trick-or-treating, or do you stay in and hand out candy (see the poll)? Just curious. I'm going as The Hurricane again (which means a new picture of me on the first), and I stay in and greet all the little kids that come around to my house (and believe me, there are a lot of little ones in the neighborhood), while my mom takes my brother and sister out. What do you do?

geo 27-10-2003 19:23

are we too old for Halloween?

I would dress up as a robot :D

Cory 27-10-2003 19:52

Where is the "Im going to scare the living daylights out of small children" option? :D:D:D:D:D

on halloween this woman in our town throws herself a huge bash because it is also her birthday. she invites like half the town, so she hires me and a friend of mine to hand out candy to the kids for her. one year she ran out of candy so she was giving away kentucky fried chicken. since its a costume party im dressing like a NY GIANT

I have surgery on october 30th, so that means i get to spend Halloween recovering.... sitting in bed with some music and a good book :)

Elgin Clock 28-10-2003 12:11

I don't go out for Halloween any more, I am dedicated to scaring the Heck out of people HERE!!!!

But... Halloween has always been a huge part of my life during the fall, since my Birthday is the night before on mischief night!!!

Almost all of my Birthday parties growing up were Halloween themed!!!

And I own more Halloween decorations than any other holiday (including Christmas) although it has been a while since I put them all up at once, I am organizing them this year and so far I have 8 bins full of decorations (the size of the bins in the game this year) and also, many large (outdoor) decorations that need bigger bins, or boxes!!!

And, actually I just got back from a weekend stay up in the North Shore Massachusetts area, or Salem in particular, where I took part in all the Halloween Happenings up there!

It's not just a holiday, it's an obsession!!!

MissInformation 28-10-2003 12:57

You're never too old for Halloween! I always wear a costume to work, one year, I was the only one who did, but last year I convinced some other people to and we went trick or treating in the office (got some candy, some paper clips, a couple of pens and a fork and a bottle of white out). :D Halloween is by far my favorite holiday!

The party I'm going to this year has an Edgar Allan Poe theme and I haven't done a costume yet. Not to worry, I'll probably just paint my face a very pale color with dark eye make-up, wear all black, including my black hooded Ren Fest cloak, grab my scythe and crow (costume about 4 years ago) and put on a red mask for Poe's Masque of the Red Death. A friend who is going to the same party has a broken ankle, and she's going to put a label on her cast and go as The Cast of Amontillado. And I think my Picklehead is going as the Black Cat...

Halloween has always been kinda big in my family, seeing as how it is my little sister's birthday (she turns 16 this year!) I like getting dressed up and being creative... its so much fun!
My favorite part of Halloween tho are the haunted houses... i love when people are scared out of their wits, its so amusing.

Coco the Monkey 28-10-2003 15:14

A little chaffing never hurt anyone...

I'm dressing up as........THE AMAZING TIN FOIL MAN!!!

*goes to buy 4 rolls of the good stuff*

Frank(Aflak) 28-10-2003 17:55

A local university has this old 1922 horror film, supposedly themost graphic of its era, except this time it is set to Jazz.

They are playing it on halloween, and some friends and I are going,

Except we are all dressing up as various 2001: a Space Oddessey characters.

We have a HAL, a Dave, a Frank (i'm not the Frank), maybe some cryogenically frozen scientists, etc.

I will be the monolith. A big black box. haha!

Yan Wang 28-10-2003 18:01

I chose the dress up and go trick or treating choice because Halloween is actually on a Friday this year. But regarding "dressing up", isn't a tired sleep-deprived teenager scary enough?

Raven_Writer 28-10-2003 18:46

It's my sister's birthday also (like Teresa's lil' sister, but mine is older). Anyways, if I would trick-or-treat, I would go as myself. I have no role model really to dress up as (which is really why we do, we imitate what we know, and what we wish to be/look like).

[Stupid social learning!]

i disagree with that... generally speaking, you dress up as something you couldn't be, but for one night, it is possible. for instance, a child dresses like a werewolf... i doubt that they wish they were that... but for one night, they can be it.
Also, I know that what I dress up as is not something I wish I could be... one year I was a blind old man, and several others a trollop... I know for a fact that I do not want to be either, its just fun to dress up and be someone else for the night.

I wish I was a giant tinfoil clad man who can withstand microwaves, and keep your left over foods safe, WHILE protecting you from the CIA spies!

D.J. Fluck 29-10-2003 14:40

Im going to work! wooo Im sure CC will get a lot of business that night..

Aftwards im going to drive around and put a red rotating light ontop of my car if I see kids TP'ing to scare them all away...I know its illegal to do that with a light, but as long as I dont keep it on and out of the car long, I don't think i'll have a problem ;)

Oh and i'll probably play a little paintball too if someone decides to TP my house :D

Meredith Rice 29-10-2003 14:51

I don't think I am too old for trick or treating even though I am not going to this year. I much prefer going to parties which is my plan for Friday night. Haunted houses/hayrides/forests are always fun to do with friends before Halloween night. I definately enjoy being scared. I am quite excited though for Friday at school becuase the entire senior class comes in outrageous costumes. It would be nice though if I actually have a costume planned, but hopefully I can pull something off the night before.

I agree. But also, you gotta think outside of the horror movies. You see people dressed up like Brintney Spears, Marilyn Manson (I know one who did this), and other stars.

That was what I was generally referring to in my statement.

kristen 29-10-2003 17:32

I'm dressing up as a 42 Pi Fairy this year :-D

I'm not going trick or treating, Im hanging out with friends :(

Marygrace 29-10-2003 23:12

Normally I'd go trick or treating but this year the football game with our Rival high school, Mira Costa (Who happens to be our partner school that makes up Beach Cities Robotics) is on halloween. I gotta go and cheer, GO SEA HAWKS!!!!!!! But im going to KnottsScaryFarm the next day to make up for it. :D Thatll be fun!

D.J. Fluck 29-10-2003 23:55

well it looks like I don't have to work on Friday! YAY

So I guess im going to put together a costume that looks like this

Im pumped about this costume...i'll post pictures

For those of you who say you're too old for Halloween, I leave you this quote by Brian Aldiss:
Quote:

When childhood dies, its corpses are called adults.
My friends and I have been talking about many group costumes. Some ideas that have been thrown around are Matrix vs. Agents (it was decided this was too cliched), Clockwork Orange Droog gang (but we did this a few weeks ago), the cast of the Rocky Horror Picture Show ( =OO!!!! ), the cast of Holy Grail, and several other ideas. However, I think with the whole SATs-on-saturday and college-apps-due-saturday things keeping us all busy, none of those ideas are going to happen =(

I think I'm just going to get a pirate hat/scimatar and wear my oldskewl Napster (1.0) shirt ;-)

A good group costume for four people that I have never been able to convince my friends to do is the 4 Horseman of the Apocolypse. There's Death, Famine, Pestilence and War. And it would be funny if they all had those little kids toys, the Horse heads on sticks, as their horses. My friends are boring and never want to do fun things like that.

man, you rock..Manson's my idol. ;o)
yeah, perhaps I'll be a female version of The Crow again...either that or I'll dress up like a man like I did for last week's costume contest on my campus.
oh wait, I have classes and choir practice tomorrow. <sigh> I guess I'll go as a nerd. I love doing that..plus I have the thick glasses, oversized shirt and pocket protecter anyway..so yeah!

I like the horsemen idea, but, imo, 2001 cast is funnier.

I am almost finished with my monolith, all it needs no is black paint. I was wearing it around earlier, and its a bit tough.

Very restricted feet travel, I put a few windows in front, and one on each side, so the veiw is more like that from a car than from a mask. No armholes, but what else are friends-in-monkey-suits for than to be a pair of hands for the monolith that gave them sentience? Its kept on by a pair of duc(t/k)-tape shoulder straps, which are working fine so far. I have enough room in there to move my arms around . . enough to get to my pockets, my face (for itching), and to pass things in and out of the windows (imagine trying to pay the ticket-booth guy, or giving my movie ticket to the ticket-taker! hahaha!)

I think this will be the craziest costume I've ever done. I love 2001, and when my friend said he was goin as HAL, I thought about which character I could choose, and decided to go monolith.

So far, we have a monkey, maybe a HAL (though he probably won't have time to make it) a Frank, and some other un-costumed louts. And myself.

I think it will be great.

I'm dressing up as the same thing I do every year... a slacker college student.

Seriously, I'll probably spend the night grading Physics papers... how exciting! :)

Greg Perkins 30-10-2003 22:59

ive gotta work haloween night, so im gonna be dressed up as a Deli Clerk!!

Kiwi_queen 30-10-2003 23:38

yep, so my final outcome for halloween costume is this: Mary Hebraea as she might have been had she lived in the present time, mainly, employed by Johnson and Johnson (ok, so that's 'cuz the only labcoat-like shirt I have is from J&J, but shhh). and if you think that's bad, my good friend is going as King of Nerds, but only because he couldn't put a costume together in time to be Gottfried Wilhelm von Leibniz.
