Arizona Regional
To all the teams who have signed up to participate in the Second Arizona FIRST Regional, Team 64 says, Thank you!
If there is anything we can do to assist you, please let us know. Ken Loyd Teacher/Advisor Team #64 The Gila Monsters |
Do you have a bus and a driver we could borrow for oh, four days? :D A few hotel rooms wouldn't hurt either. :D Anyway, I really hope it will be just as fun as last year.

We love Arizona! Hi Indiana and Texas too! Looking forward to seeing Canada and Mexico too! ![]() |
I have been to a lot of FIRST events and this was one of the friendliest, convenient, best parking, and easiest to have lunch at. Once we realized we were not eligible for Nationals there is no place we would rather go.
It is saying a lot when you say it is "easy to eat lunch at a regional". |
The queing was top quality. Extremely organized, loud and clear, and at a very good time interval. Also, the announcer was the best I have ever seen.

I meant to say the announcer was the best I have ever heard. I think he alone made the event way more fun. Three weeks later, LA seemed more dull than any year before after attending Phoenix.

I'm glad our team is going back to AZ this year! This was an awesome regional last year, and hopefully it will be even better this year. :)

Team 64 is dedicated to making the regional outstanding, once again. On a sadder note: Ken L., you will be missed! Our Hats Off Award goes to Team 60, Kingman, for bringing the machine shop on site. 222
I am regretted to inform you that us 222 folks will not be attending the Arizona Regional this year. Last year we only attended this regional because we could not go to Nationals. We ended up with so many points during the season that we went to Nationals and won the team spirit award.
Arizona is too far away and too expensive for us to travel there from Pennsylvania! This was so much fun last year, except the trip to the Grand Canyon when it was snowing and all foggy. Look at my picture....... |
Ah sorry to hear about that :( 222's robot was awesome last year, you guys were good pit neighbors.. I think you were next to us, right??
And the Grand Canyon is awesome... at 5:00 in the morning when it's really cold and the sun is rising. |
Looks like we're going to have a team from Mexico and another from Canada at the Phoenix event this year.

Beach Bots
Hey Beach Bots!
Glad to see that you are coming to the Arizona Regional. You folks are a class act! Ken Loyd Team #64 |

When we took a vote as to what regional besides Southern California to go to, Phoenix won by a large margin. In spite of numerous team relatives in the vicinity of San Jose and Sacramento. On the other hand, maybe it was because of the relatives. Either that or your Regional Committee is doing something right. I know we had a great time last year. |
Thanks - Can't wait to do it again

I think a better question would be who doesn't want Jesse McGuire to come back and play the National Anthem, and you would probably get no replies on that one :) Definately get him back if at all possible.

Team 1011 absolutely loved Jesse Mcguire last year!
|
When Jesse McGuire hits that high note toward the end of his performance it sends chills throughout my body, the good kind.
Truly remarkable. Absolutely fantastic! |

I belive I forgot to maention one important improvement for the coming year:
Last year, there was no Coca-Cola (and hardly any water or Sprite) at the concession stand until the afternoon on Saturday. There was only one vending machine that was on the complete other side of the stadium. Also, the one concession place was dirty and didn't have much of any food, and none that looked "new." I'm sure this problem is not just Arizona but I just wanted to point it out just in case no one else did. |
I'd have to agree about the food and drink situation. I also remember hunting for water fountains. I even got pretty dehydrated on Friday. Looking for a new perspective when I wasn't needed in the pits, some teammates and I searched the dome, searching for water fountains in the process. I believe we found one or two by the restrooms, but that was all. Oh yeah, I never did buy food from the concession stands.
-Daniel |
It's always a good idea to have some water on you because you'll get dehydrated if you don't drink any - especially out in Arizona.
Your Water Bottle Source - http://www.nalgene-outdoor.com/ Anyone who has one can say these are easily the most durable water bottles made. I <3 Lexan and other products like it. |
I've seen a Nalgene be hit by a car an not break. They're pretty insane, but expensive too.

Well, Team 696 the Circuit Breakers of Clark Magnet High School in La Crescenta Khaleefornia, is proud to annouce that a miracle has indeed happened. We will MOST DEFINITELY BE IN ATTENDANCE! I look forward to seeing you all again. Before the event happens, we (CD users attending) will have to work out something whacky we will wear so we can recognize each other. The event is going to be Awesome. Has anyone looked at the team list lately? I see teams registered from Ontario Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Ohio, Indiana, Maryland, Massachutsets, and of course Arizona and California. That's three different countries and seven different states. And they are all gathering in the middle of the desert for the most fun period of three days anyone has ever experienced. One more great think I don't know if anyone else has mentioned, is that the Veteran's Memorial Colliseum is even bigger than the Sports Arena in LA, yet there are only 2/3 the teams. Can someone say "pit space" |

Re: Arizona Regional
FYI AZ.
Our UCLA college anthropology team doing a communication study of our team is talking about attending Phoenix regional as journalists covering the event. |
Re: Arizona Regional
Good news!
A small research team from CEU (College of Eastern Utah) is going down to the Arizona Regional as part of the process to figure out if we can get a team going out here in the middle of the black hole for FIRST teams. There are no teams in the state of Utah right now, but may there be one (or more) in the next year or two of we can get the buzz going in the right ears. We are really excited.. See you all there! |
Re: Arizona Regional
Team 973 is going this year for the first time. We are all looking forward to some great copmetition and meeting new teams. But we AREN'T looking forward to the 10 hour bus ride from california.

We had a student videographer at last year's Phoenix competition. Can you believe we only NOW got a copy of his high school project. It's about our team, but it has some views of other things at the competition and you may want to take a look.
***WARNING*** 88mb quicktime movie, may take 10-20 min to download.link |
Re: Arizona Regional
Ok so all the CD people definately have to hang out sometime at the competition. Maybe we could meet at the team party or something. I have no idea what is around there and I don't remember the venue that well so does anyone else have any suggestions?
Also, who is submitting their chaiman's award there? I was just wondering which teams were. (Sorry I edited because I put some info in that was not good soory!) |

I have an SME leash and card that is covered in buttons. I guess you could call it whacky because I am the only one I have seen all of last year and this year who has one and wears it. Those SME cards must be worth at least a couple hundred on the street these days. Oh, and the CRyptonite 624 button on it. There are less than a dozen known to exist in California, one of those would go for a couple G's easy. OH, and the 2001 Clark Kent button. I have the only one known to be in existence currently. That button can not even have a price put on it. There have been reports of one other Clark Kent button spotted but this has not been confirmed. And who can forget the yellow Viper button of 2002. It is a legend. Most have never even seen it. A small item but very very high value (in the high hundreds). Gee, look at what I am saying. I hope I don't get jumped for my neck leash, SME card and buttons. :D But seriously, though, I have been offered a whole mess of trade items for those Clark Kent and yellow Viper button. No joke. This year, we had misprint run of PURPLE Cirucuit Breakers 2004 buttons. There were only 7 of them made! If you get your hands on one of those, consider yourself a very lucky person. Oh gosh, I've gotten off topic again haven't I. I'll make up for it, don't you worry. |
