CHAOS's New Website

Over the past 2 days I have re-designed CHAOS's site.

chaos131.com

Its not completely done, but the basics are up there.

Its somewhat a tribute to one of my fav. sites :D

I love the apple.com layout very easy to navigate.

Ooo pretty :)

Just a few (minor) suggestions:

1) Make the scanlines at the top go all the way across...it looks a little weird when they stop before the end on both sides.

2) Apple's official font is Myriad (Bold Script) if you want to make it a REAL tribute ;)

3) I'd kill the frames, but it's really a personal preference. They work for this, so I say go with it if you want...

4) This is just etiquette, but I'd suggest taking the spaces out of the file names. I'm not sure if all browsers would be able to view that or not...?

I just ran the majority of your site through the w3 validator ( http://validator.w3.org ) and none of them checked out :( Even your frameset didn't conform to their recommendations (they weren't major errors...they were things easily fixed). Another thing I noticed is your header...Did you just copy and paste Apple's header into a frame? Because you link to their style sheet, have a QuickTime check, and a few other things that probably don't have anything to do with your site...? It looks cool, but I think it'd be quite simple to code your own than have a huge amount of unneeded code in your header...? Maybe I'm just weird...

Anyhow, good job :)

I personally like the design.

W3C is something you should be using though also ;)

It is a *good* tool for "cross-browser" designing.

[BTW: If you wish to flame me for this post, please PM me, and not flood this thread].

yay!!!! Apple whoo hoo! Ok, the only thing I'd say is watch out for Apple's legal department. I'm not saying they will do anything but I've heard of other sites with even less resemblance. But I give you props for using Apple ;)

MattK 18-11-2003 18:41

hey, guys. Thanks for the info and input. I agree with everything you guys have said.

I am working on Killing the frames, I hate them with the power of a 1,000 suns but I just wanted to achive the look quickly.

The Site is still in beta.

ajlapp 18-11-2003 19:09

can't see the page

might be my problem, don't know. :(

MattK 18-11-2003 19:15

Used Apple? Nice!

I suggest taking a look at www.4osx.com's disclaimer. They're a big mac website, and they use a lot of panther images, and steve jobs knows about them, so I don't think it's a big deal as long as you disclaim it.

Glad to hear you finally got the Apple server running well, Matty.

Hey, maybe see you at BAE Regional again this year?

Anyway...good luck. I want to see the final product!

Thanks Petey, that was just what I was looking for!

Your site looks great by the way, you guys have some real tallent on that team.

I am sure we will run into eachother at the BAE regional, I'm looking forward to it.

I think you have a permission error. I am getting a 401, when visiting your site.

I get the same thing.

I think it might be that he's re-designing the site to not use frames, since he said he did it in a jiffy and despises frames.

Hey..Matt...

Can you see the site fine?

Because it gets all screwed up when viewed from a Windows browser...which is weird...
