What size monitor do you use?
I want to know what size monitor you use, it can be more than one size.
|
2 CRTs
17" & 19" Dual Display :D |
15" LCD, for me
|
Because of the ridiculously small desks here, I have a 15' flat panel from Gateway.
|
Laptop 15in
I love my heavy laptop beast. (all 7.1 lbs of it!) |

Elgin, There is quite a difference between a 17" CRT and LCD, perhaps you should put in seperate options for CRT and LCDs. And can you show me a monitor that is more then 1 size? I love my light laptop beast..14.1" lcd there. |
21" CRT, both at home and work.
My first computer (IBM PS/2 model 50) had a 12" monitor and a 20mb hard drive (don't forget that optional math coprocessor too!). AutoCAD ran like a dream on it (made me tired from waiting), and the dot matrix printer was great for printing out 40 page term papers until it jammed around page 39. Computers have come a long way in the last 20 years (even 5 years). Stepping up to a 17" CRT was great back in 1996, and now I wouldn't want to live with anything smaller than a 19". With the introduction of LCD displays, you can pick up a fairly cheap used 19-21" CRT at your local mom 'n pop computer store. While the footprint is large, it's the screen that's ultimately used :D |
23" Apple HD Cinema Display :)

As for the multiple choice option, I did that so you can put in the sizes of different screens that you use like DJ Fluck did. Like as for me, I use a 15" at my mom's, a 17" at my dads, 19" at school, and 21" at work. <I am spoiled at work!> lol So that I think that answers the size question. Also, see my other poll HERE if you haven't already checked it out! The reason I am doing this is to make our new team WEBSITE adapt, or at least standard for the most popular or most used monitor size and resoulution out there in FIRST land! |
Monitor resolution is really more important than size. There was a similar question asked for website development you might want to check it out.

For example, a 15" CRT will often have a viewable size of 14". A 17" CRT will have a viewable size of 16" or so. Sometimes, 21" CRTs will have a viewable size as low as 19.5" Another part is the perceived size. The 18" LCDs at school look bigger then the 19" CRT (18" viewable) that I have now. I replaced my parents 17" CRT with a 15" LCD and haven't heard any complaints (we'll see what happens when he reads this thread, though ;) |
CRTs: 19"(computer i use most often), 21", 17", and yes sadly one of my comps has a 15"
Other: 57" Widescreen HD Laptop: 17"(i think) |

-dave p.s. of course, I have complete display-envy over the guy who works with me that has FIVE 23" HD displays arrayed across his desk! His favorite quote is "when you are looking at the whole solar system, you need a LOT of display area!" |

Five HD Cinemas... Up until you made me imagine that, I was perfectly content with my TiBook. They would be pretty hard to carry around with me, so I guess I can stay content.
|
I am currently using a temporary 19" CRT @ 1280x1024 because my other 17" flat crt fried.
Picking up a 19" Flat NEC Multisync sometime this week. I think with a max res of either 1920x___ or 1794x___. |
15" Flat Screen LCD

Ti
Dual 23" displays?!?! Jeez! I can say that I am definitely turning green with envy. Who doesn't like Macintosh? I mean....really?
I have a 17" cinema display laptop....not bad for a laptop eh? His name is Ti :D |

Re: What size monitor do you use?
My main monitor is a 19" Viewsonic P95f+ (1600x1200@80hz) and my secondary monitor (which usually has either IRC or my server's shell full-screened) is a 15" running at 1024x768@70hz. Dual monitors makes life with Photoshop way better :P Also good if you don't like those tiny PuTTY sessions :P

Re: What size monitor do you use?
I wish I not only had the real-estate but also the $$$ to put 5 23" displays on my desk.
However, I am content with my 19" $200 Costco Sylvania connected to my laptop running at 1600x1200 This will make most of us drool: http://www.9xmedia.com/pages-Build_a...-5_over_5.html |
Re: What size monitor do you use?
I use two computers side by side, and three monitors. (17, 17, and 15). I use a kvm switch for the middle one.

At work I have a set of screens that are 10' x 36', but they're only 3840 pixels across. (I'm the one all the way on the right)
I like a lot of real estate. Too bad it won't fit in the pits:( |

Side note: Did your team change it's name this year?? We won NYC Regional with you guys in 2002 and weren't you a different name? |

We were the Titans when we won NYC with you guys (thanks for picking us!). We changed last year to Robotic Eagles, because our school mascot is an eagle and it gave us a costume for the competitions and also because one of the students painted a neat looking eagle with part of the face exposed like in the Terminator. We spoke to some of your guys/girls in the pits at Trenton on Sat. Very nice bar mechanism. Congrats on a great showing and a great win! |
