FloridaFIRST: Workshops for all Florida Teams December 13th
Below is a copy of the e-mail I sent out to all the e-mails I could find for Florida teams, please forward this to the mentors of your team who can try to plan for your team to be able to come. Please have them e-mail me back at miketwalker@cfl.rr.com Thanks.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Florida Teams, We have been working the past few months on setting up “FloridaFIRST”, a community similar to that of the WRRF (www.wrrf.org) and IndianaFIRST (www.indianafirst.org) but for Florida. We are currently in the process of developing a main website which should be fully functional by build season, but will soon have the information about the workshops. We are now at the point of finally being able to get others involved to make this a Florida team site and get all teams involved, as well as it getting hard to manage by ourselves. This e-mail is being sent to ask teams what workshops they would be interested in attending. The workshops will be hosted at University High School in Orlando, FL on December 13th. Team 1083 has graciously allowed us to use their facilities for this workshop. The workshop will be a “6 weeks in 6 hours” system. We’re going to attempt to make the actual workshops focus around the actual time period in which it would be used (the first hour would act like the first week and include workshops such as strategizing and design, etc.) We are hoping this process can help show rookies what they can expect. We would like to find out what workshops teams really would like to attend, as well as if anyone specialized (whether it be student, mentor, or engineer) to help teach workshops. Please forward this on to who this information can be read over. We will have a website with the basic information and under heavy construction in a few days at www.floridafirstrobotics.com This system will hopefully evolve into a center for all Florida teams to meet together to help organize events, work out problems, find mentors, etc. Anybody interested in helping us with the website or any area with this workshop is highly encouraged to e-mail us back. Sorry about the late notice, but we hope this can be very successful. Please e-mail us back ASAP with what workshops your interested in, approximately how many students/mentors will be attending, best time for this event to start so you can get to the High School, and anything else you can think of. Thank you for your time, currently these are the only details we have, but once we receive feedback we will send out a much more detailed e-mail, and also check out the website in the coming days. There are many teams who have not posted their e-mails on the FIRST site, please forward this to them if you know their e-mails, as well as all members on your team that would be interested. Thank you very much for your time, and we look forward to seeing you at the workshops. - Michael Walker (Team 21, ComBBAT, miketwalker@cfl.rr.com, AOL SN: miketwalker86) Dan Richardson (Team 710, PAW, KewlguyDan@aol.com, AOL SN: KewlguyDan) |
These small, state-wide robotics organizations seem to be a growing trend in FIRST. We've seen Indiana FIRST, WRRF, FloridaFIRST, MassFIRST, and an NJFIRST. Perhaps if every state had one, they could become one of the many resources readily available for rookie teams anywhere. There could even be collaboration and idea sharing between the groups. Who knows?
EDIT: United States and in other countries. FIRST is growing too fast for me to keep up with ;) |

A. I know we stole the idea from IndianaFIRST and we've been slowly forming in the past few months B. Ken L from WRRF has already offered to help, and we've offered to help WRRF in any way we could as well So, I think that these groups are already interconnecting. The main purpose for them is so that there are the local divisions to help organize things like workshops, as well as help make it easier to create offseason competitions, create promotional videos for all the local teams so they can use them, etc. I really think they're all starting to do alot of useful things, and that's what we're hoping FloridaFIRST will evolve into, and I think we're heading in the right direction. |

Don't forget "Georgia FIRST." Well not actually called that, but we also have an org. in GA through Georgia Tech and the Regional Committee that coordinates workshops, raises funds, gets sponsors for teams, runs the Regional and much much more.
If you need any help count us in as well. It will be great once all these groups start communicating more formally. |
im working on your logo, Mike
Its a real Pain... a sun with sunglases with the camera pointed at it and it being the light sourse is getting real annoying, if you could immagine and :( i cant go , il be in clearwater the 13th at the Legoleague competion |

Email blast two
Hey gusy here is the email blast i just sent out we need to start makign a email database so read the email and find out how to get added to the contact list
************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ************************************************** ********** Dear Florida Teams, This is the second email blast about the December 13th workshop. The first email was sent out by Mike Walker from team 21. I am Ryan Albright from team 710. I have taken over the contacting everyone and making a email database. Dan (710) and Mike (21) have been working on www.floridafirstrobotics.com and its looking really good. I have come along to relieve some stress from them. We need help with two things. The first things is we are trying to get a count of how many people are attending or planning on attending the workshop in Orlando, Fl on December 13th. The email list you see is all we could pull up on Florida teams, so if you dont see someone on this list forward them this email. We need input on what you would like to see be taught at this workshop, how many people are expecting to attend, and if you have any mentors that are willing to teach a workshop. If you have already responded to the first email you do not need to reply to this one. Mike is working on a application for everyone, that should be done in the near future. The second thing we need help with is building a email database for the website. We are gonna start mass emailing florida teams and we need all the email address we can get. We are looking for mentors, students and anyone involved with robotics in Florida. So if you have team members/mentors/sponsors that want to be on the mailing list please email me at Ryanteam710@aol.com with the following information Team name and number Name Email address Location Then they will be added to the email list. If you dont see someone on your team on this email list forward this email to them. WE NEED A RESPONSE ABOUT THE WORKSHOP SOON THE DATE IS FAST APROACHING!!! Any questions please email Thanks for your time, Ryan Albright Team 710 PAW www.floridafirstrobotics.com Aim: Sirminnyme irq:156856717 yahoo im: canesarethebomb msn: Sirminnyme@aol.com |
Re: FloridaFIRST: Workshops for all Florida Teams December 13th
Due to lack of interest the Florida FIRST workshop planned for December 13th has been cancelled.
We apologize for the short notice of both the scheduled workshop, and the termination of the said workshop. Also we apologize for schedulling conflicts such as the lego league competition set on the same date. Look forward to more FF workshops and other events planned for the future. but for now Gear up for the Florida Regional Its gonna be a blast this year. Dan Richardson |
Re: FloridaFIRST: Workshops for all Florida Teams December 13th
Dan and Mike:
I'm very sorry to hear that the event has been canceled. Please know that you'll have my full support for anything you need in the future. And I'm sure the rest of 1083 would be happy to help, too. I think we should start planing now for a FloridaFIRST workshop at 1083's postseason event in May. What do ya think? |

Are you all still going to have the workshops next weekend because it seems to be that the link on the page is broken. Just wanted to know.
