So many people to thank

I sent this out to my team last week. Last night I realized that I could use the forum to thank many other people for the work you do.

Dear FIRST family:

As many of you know last Wednesday my wife Amy was in a car accident.
She has a broken ankle and bumps a bruises. It is because of engineering that
she is alive today. She drove a 2002 Mazda Protege, and hit a pickup truck
that pulled out in front of her. At the time of impact she was going 40 mph!
Many FIRST sponsors make the parts that saved her life. Both air bags went
off and every part of that car worked to protect her. Some people think that
engineering is boring, that all you do is make stuff. Words cannot express how
thankful I am that engineers figured out how to make a compact car protect a
person in a 40 mph car crash.

Sincerely,
Steve Yasick

Great post. Mind if I share that in our team email?

So glad she's ok.

i think you're correct, a lot of people do NOT realize the impacts that engineering has on society. I as well would like to know if i may share this post/email with my team, especially the seniors that may be interested in engineering and the new members.

Feel free to use this post however you can.

Re: So many people to thank

I too want to thank engineers; I want to thank them a lot. Today I was T-boned by a speeding car while I was taking a left out of an intersection. My driver's side door was smashed in, the car is totaled, but I scooted over and climbed out the passenger side before I started kicking into the air and crying (its my dad's car and I feel horrible :( ). However, THANK YOU auto engineers (1999 Honda Accord) because it could have been so much worse. The EMTs were surprised that I refused ambulatory care (felt OK physically but not mentally). Yea, today wasn't a good day.

Erin,
Was that you UTRC yesterday? When I was leaving there around 4pm I saw the flashing lights as I pulled up to the exit and thought you were standing by the car on the grass. Glad to hear you're OK.
