Re: Reputation Level suggestions

Now that the range of reputation levels is growing, I'll ask again .. does anybody have any ideas for FIRST-related / humorous / witty phrases for the levels? I'd really like to get rid of the vB3 default values for these.

-999999 : User is infamous around these parts
-50 : User can only hope to improve
-10 : User has a little shameless behaviour in the past
0 : User is an unknown quantity at this poINT
10 : User is on a distinguished road
50 : User will become famous soon enough
150 : User has a spectacular aura about
250 : User is a jewel in the rough
350 : User is just really nice
450 : User is a glorious beacon of light
550 : User is a name known to all
650 : User is a splendid one to behold
1000 : User has much to be proud of
1500 : User has a brilliant future
2000 : User has a reputation beyond repute

We can go higher than 2000 (or have other intermediate levels) if the need arises. Also the word 'User' is replaced by their username. (example: 'Andy Baker is just really nice.')

Re: Reputation Level suggestions

Here are some ideas:

-999999 : Nevermind what User says
-200: All we see is "blah, blah, blah"
-50 : Rebel without a cause
-10 : Renegade in training
0 : User has infinite potential, mathematically
10 : Well, it's a start
50 : User is creating momentum
150 : Hey, we need to start listening to User
250 : User has good things to say
350 : User is a leader in this area
450 : Listen up!
550 : Stop the presses!
650 :
1000 :
1500 : User sets the standard
2000 : Make it so

Just some ideas... some are good (make it so) and some are not (stop the presses!).

10 : User knows what the FIRST acronym stands for
50 : User still thinks there is more to life than FIRST
150 : User knows what they are talking about
250 : User spends too much time on CD
350 : User realizes you can never spend too much time on CD
450 : User accepts that FIRST is life
550 : User likes that FIRST is life

I like how you associated Dave with the worst reputation. It makes a strange sense....

um, no. I believe that Woodie Flowers once said something about set screws inhale audibly. And someone else said it should be a level, so I put it in there

OK, but it should be a level on the negative side of the scale. This is not a title to strive for!

When I used it in this same thread i used it as the highest. People inhale audibly when you hear or talk about a person. *GASP*! Very famous, whatever. I thought it was funny. :(

Re: Reputation Level suggestions

I had a few ideas about some positive and negative rep levels.

Negatives:
<User> suggests another 4 vs. 0 game to FIRST
<User> inhales like a set screw

Positives:
<User> knows well the concept of gracious professionalism
<User> exhibits gracious professionalism
<User> eats graciousness and craps professionalism
Got GP? <User> does!
<User> excels at FIRST aid
Pencil <User> in for next year's Woodie Flowers Award

I think the list is plenty long now. Brandon, is there some way you can set up a massive poll to pick the best ones out of those suggested?

Dingworthy

So, since my first post of the year (a harmless joke reply to a harmless joke post ) was considered dingworthy on my reputation, I thought I'd come here to see if I could find out what exactly should be considered when rating the reputation of other posts?

Is it now inappropriate for a fun, lighthearted post in the Rumor mill? Furthermore, is whining about reputation (this post) dingworthy? Will I get marked down because in this post it's obvious that I haven't read the manual or done a CD search on reputation? What's the story? Or the link, or any happy thoughts?

For the first two, I'll direct you to this thread.

For a happy thought, try pie.

Thats the problem with the reputation system... people who take three seconds to gloss over an issue and get a wrong impression or who don't get the fact that people here on ChiefDelphi actually joke around still have the ability to lower your reputation. Thing is, over all, I think the system works itself out - the people who do the above usually do not have high reputation themselves, and so, their votes have little impact. If your post is truely worthy, I think the more reputable people will realize that and give you what is appropriate, thus overshadowing the former.

Yeah, you're going to dispute some of the reputation votes - for example, I have recieved a negative reputation vote for a post that was doing no more than stating my opinion in a thread that was asking for people's opinions. Yes, the post was contraversial, and I still think the person's justification for the negative vote had no foundation, but guess what? I got more positive votes for that post than the negative vote. Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to bring back a long-gone thread or start up a long-gone fued - I'm just trying to show that over the long run, especially with the votes of the people with the cooler heads and more rational thinking weighing more, the system does work. There always are going to be people that misinterpret your post or not understand your post is meant to be humorous or sarcastic, and you're going to disagree with the justifications they give for negative rep. However, I think that overall, the system was designed well and eventually you get what you earned.
