Reputation Level suggestions
Hey, so with Reputation, you get a title.
Here are the pre-set ones. We need to FIRST-i-FY these. -999999 User is infamous around these parts -50 User can only hope to improve -10 User has a little shameless behaviour in the past 0 User is an unknown quantity at this poINT 10 User is on a distinguished road 50 User will become famous soon enough 150 User has a spectacular aura about 250 User is a jewel in the rough 350 User is just really nice 450 User is a glorious beacon of light 550 User is a name known to all 650 User is a splendid one to behold 1000 User has much to be proud of 1500 User has a brilliant future 2000 User has a reputation beyond repute So, we need suggestions for all of those. But, you probably are wondering 'How many points to you get when someone gives you one Thumbs-Up?' Here are the point fomulas: (numbers subject to change) Admins (maybe mods, not sure) give 3 points. For every 100 number of days, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. For every 500 number of posts, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. For every 100 points of reputation, users gain 1 point of reputation-altering power. User must have 50 posts before his reputation hits count on others. User can give 47 reputation clicks over each 24 hour period. User must give reputation to 15 people before they can hit the same person again. |

Perhaps I will attempt to browse the vB site again and figure it out. (thems confuuusing) {Edit} "Whenever someone rates a post either x reputations points is subtracted or added to the reputation total. That x is called reputation altering power. So when a 2 year old member rates someone it has more influecne then a new user rating the same post." {/Edit} Wetzel |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
47 reputation clicks per 24 hours? Hehe... I think that deserves a thumbs-up ;)

Re: Reputation Level suggestions
If I may, perhaps make the reputation thing a little big more obvious... took me a while to find that small green/red/gray box... I think if someone is respectable, he deserves more than 5x5 green pixels.
I suppose this is what this whole "title" issue is about, but does this also mean that our custom titles are going to be replaced with reputation titles? Or is a person going to have two titles - one his custom one and one his reputation title? If the former, I'd hope the custom title option wouldn't be eliminated, in which case, you should make the reputation graphic much more obvious than 5x5 pixels. Either way, can you haxor VB to put a small link next to the reputation title to a thread explaining the reputation idea (or atleast to a bookmark on the New Forum thread)? I'm thinking a simple (?) after the reputation title could clear up lots of confusion that many people will undoubtedly have with this system. [edit] Oh, and for the -10 User has a little shameless behaviour in the past, wouldn't "has had a little shameful behaviour in the past" make more sense? |

And, as with everything else, this could all change and become alot more intuitive, clearer and better with the final vb3 style. I won't be changing much of anything until a final style is out to base stuff off of. Thanks again for the comments.. |

Re: Reputation Level suggestions
Personally, I think we shouldn't have a named raking since if we use names, people would feel insulted/left-out, and other times it might not actually resemble how the person really is. I think a simple number is good enough. I'd say have the level's be every 50 points, so a level 5 person would have 250-299 reputation points. It's easier since you can compare it to others and you won't have to learn a crazy naming system, specially for newbies.

Re: Reputation Level suggestions
i like the whole reputation idea .. forces you to think about your posts .. and plus it lets you know if someone has actually read and paid attention to your posts or not (ive always wondered that) ....
but i have a question, and i might just be missing something here .. but how do u give someone reputation points ?? |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
this button:
by each post. |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
hmmm... here's a thought... for the extremely ego-sensitive people out there, how about one's reputation being displayed in the top bar with the Last Visited and the Number of Private Messages?
That and I kinda mentioned it in my last post, but it was lost in the other points... can the individual dots be linked to a thread explaining the reputation system? I'm sure someone (either now or in the future) isn't going to know what those dots are, and the person is only going to be really confused when "so-and-so is on a distinguished path" pops up on a mouseover. If they were linked, I'm sure it'll get rid of the occassional "What are those green dots people have" thread. |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
So -- under our User CP, we can see what reputation we've received recently.
Is there anything that shows what reputation we've given? Perhaps with other statistics as well? Also, is there a way to see all of our reputation, not just the most recent? |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
There isnt anything built in to see all reputation (given or received). I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to make a page to display all of that. I'm going to work on our ChiefDelphi stuff (papers, gallery, ufh, etc), and hope that someone else makes a hack to do those things in the meantime, though. :)

If someone has 49 posts and goes around stirring up a reputation storm, nothing they do will matter. If they post once more and reach 50, will all of the reputation they handed out previously come into effect, or is it just forgotten for all time? |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
It is not retroactive. Once your points count, they count from that point on .. nothing in the past.
|
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
is there a way to see how many reputation points some one else has ?? i know that you can see what category they fit under ? and, how many points does it take to get a second dot and a third and so on??
|
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
You can see the point levels here: in this thread
There isnt a way to see the # other people have (yet), but you can hover over the dots by their username, and see what level they are at. |

Re: Reputation Level suggestions
I noticed that in my reputation tally box in my user CP menu.. there's a dot prefix that alternates between green and grey dots. After talking to some people, I wasn't given a negative comment yet. What does that dot prefix mean? Anything?

Re: Reputation Level suggestions
green = positive
gray = neutral (most likely the persons reputation doesnt count yet) red = negative |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
Now that the range of reputation levels is growing, I'll ask again .. does anybody have any ideas for FIRST-related / humorous / witty phrases for the levels? I'd really like to get rid of the vB3 default values for these.
-999999 : User is infamous around these parts -50 : User can only hope to improve -10 : User has a little shameless behaviour in the past 0 : User is an unknown quantity at this poINT 10 : User is on a distinguished road 50 : User will become famous soon enough 150 : User has a spectacular aura about 250 : User is a jewel in the rough 350 : User is just really nice 450 : User is a glorious beacon of light 550 : User is a name known to all 650 : User is a splendid one to behold 1000 : User has much to be proud of 1500 : User has a brilliant future 2000 : User has a reputation beyond repute We can go higher than 2000 (or have other intermediate levels) if the need arises. Also the word 'User' is replaced by their username. (example: 'Andy Baker is just really nice.') |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
Here are some ideas:
-999999 : Nevermind what User says -200: All we see is "blah, blah, blah" -50 : Rebel without a cause -10 : Renegade in training 0 : User has infinite potential, mathematically 10 : Well, it's a start 50 : User is creating momentum 150 : Hey, we need to start listening to User 250 : User has good things to say 350 : User is a leader in this area 450 : Listen up! 550 : Stop the presses! 650 : 1000 : 1500 : User sets the standard 2000 : Make it so Just some ideas... some are good (make it so) and some are not (stop the presses!). Andy B. |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
2000 : "Inhale Audibly"
eh, i got nothing. I'm still not too big a fan of the reputation system but its growing on me I think. :) |
Re: Reputation Level suggestions
-999999 : User is as trustworthy as anything dlavery says about the game prior to kickoff
-50 : User cant be trusted with power tools -10 : User cant be trusted near robot control panels 0 : User asks "what's so important about kickoff?" 10 : User knows what the FIRST acronym stands for 50 : User still thinks there is more to life than FIRST 150 : User knows what they are talking about 250 : User spends too much time on CD 350 : User realizes you can never spend too much time on CD 450 : User accepts that FIRST is life 550 : User likes that FIRST is life 650 : User inhales audibly 1000 : User has the ability to understand everything about the 2001 game 1500 : User is next Ken L. 2000 : User next Andy Baker 5000 : User is next Brandon Martus 7500 : User is next Woodie Flowers 10000 : User is next Dean Kamen just my idea, use all, some or none. |

When I used it in this same thread i used it as the highest. People inhale audibly when you hear or talk about a person. *GASP*! Very famous, whatever. I thought it was funny. :(

Re: Reputation Level suggestions
I had a few ideas about some positive and negative rep levels.
Negatives: <User> suggests another 4 vs. 0 game to FIRST <User> inhales like a set screw Positives: <User> knows well the concept of gracious professionalism <User> exhibits gracious professionalism <User> eats graciousness and craps professionalism Got GP? <User> does! <User> excels at FIRST aid Pencil <User> in for next year's Woodie Flowers Award I think the list is plenty long now. Brandon, is there some way you can set up a massive poll to pick the best ones out of those suggested? |
Dingworthy
So, since my first post of the year (a harmless joke reply to a harmless joke post ) was considered dingworthy on my reputation, I thought I'd come here to see if I could find out what exactly should be considered when rating the reputation of other posts?
Is it now inappropriate for a fun, lighthearted post in the Rumor mill? Furthermore, is whining about reputation (this post) dingworthy? Will I get marked down because in this post it's obvious that I haven't read the manual or done a CD search on reputation? What's the story? Or the link, or any happy thoughts? |

Yeah, you're going to dispute some of the reputation votes - for example, I have recieved a negative reputation vote for a post that was doing no more than stating my opinion in a thread that was asking for people's opinions. Yes, the post was contraversial, and I still think the person's justification for the negative vote had no foundation, but guess what? I got more positive votes for that post than the negative vote. Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to bring back a long-gone thread or start up a long-gone fued - I'm just trying to show that over the long run, especially with the votes of the people with the cooler heads and more rational thinking weighing more, the system does work. There always are going to be people that misinterpret your post or not understand your post is meant to be humorous or sarcastic, and you're going to disagree with the justifications they give for negative rep. However, I think that overall, the system was designed well and eventually you get what you earned. |
