So how is it?

I know there isn't a finished style, and we're missing a ton of things (image gallery, white papers, etc), but so far, how do you like it?

i'm lovin' it

I am already starting to like the many new vB features, and I can't wait until everything is added. Will it be done before 1-10-04 or don't we know?

Overall it's better, but I can't wait for the return of the galleries/chief delphi color.

Hopefully well before that.

If they keep to their word, Jelsoft will release the new style by Friday, and I have Monday off of work to devote to the site. So, I should have a good size chunk of it done before January.

Pretty good, just waiting for the featuers to come back

It got a little confusing with the lack of a portal page, after I've gotten used to it for a while. Other than that, I think everyone is working fairly well. New features are useful and not confusing. I look forward to having everything in Chief Delphi colour and style again!

One thing I am a little worry about is people who do not want to use thread style and used to linear style will not be able to take advantage of the organizational ability of thread style. That in and of itself isn't too bad, except when the linear people start posting in thread style discussion you start getting messages with multiple topics and the structure of the discussion start breaking apart. Well, it's a minor concern anyway, because I haven't really seen anything so far, and a lot of people like to use the hybrid view. So I would encourage everyone to use that view. Maybe set it to the default view and people can change it to linear if they want to.

*edit* The other things I miss is looking up members base on their team number. And then there is the count down page as we are getting closer to FIRST season again. You know little features that was useful. But those takes time to come back, so I am going to wait patiently. *edit*

Other than that, everything is going pretty good. I just hope the existence of post count wouldn't encourage people to post more than they ought to. Maybe the reputation points will have some effect on them. Everything just started a few days ago, so it's hard to see what's going to happen.

Time will tell...

My only suggestion for the portal page is a login box right on the page (similar to how the login box it one the index twice). That would make logging in quicker and easier than ever before.

Honestly i gotta say i'm not a fan, I really liked the old version better.
Can't quite put my finger on why, though.

Please don't hurt me Brandon

Love it, but I cant' wait to get the features back. Seems exactly like the Beta vB3 Chief Delphi you had set up awhile back, but it will be nice to get rid of this purple.

I'm not a huge fan. There's so much stuff... I don't even see a use for a lot of it. Heh.

Re: So how is it?

Overall, I love the new system. The toolbar at the top with the PM information and the new posts link is REALLY helpful. I’m even starting to like the purple :yikes:.

My only problem with the new system is the reputation points. Within 24 hours many people, including a very well respected person that should know better, were abusing the system. I understand the purpose behind the system, but right now it is turning out to be mostly a popularity contest. Perhaps we should just get rid of it? Or at least impose some more control over it, maybe only letting moderators give reputation points or implementing some sort of appeal system.

I really don't see how it can be abused. Brandon described the reputaion system here, and it looks pretty fair. A person can try to give as many negative hits to another as they'd like, but there's criteria for when each will count and how much it will even be worth when it does count.

It will all work itself out in the end, I'm sure.

Agreed... it will take time to sort itself out, but over time, the system should be fair and sustaining. Yes, it will be a little skewed at first, but that should sort itself out as the reputation system gets more use.

Certain people are giving positive reputation points to their friends and negative points to people they don't like. This doesn't matter too much when the person doing it is just your average poster, but when it is someone who's been around a while and has posted a lot, then the rating has a much bigger impact. Normally one would think that those kinds of people would be mature enough to restrain themselves, but as many people's reputations show, that’s not the case.

Remember, no matter how “god”-like you think a person is, we’re all still human.

Does the reputation thing even make much of a difference here? It doesn't effect how much you can post or what you can post (yet?), and most people are smart enough not to judge people by just some little counter. I see it more as a helpful tool for the user, rather than other users because that person will know if things they are posting are liked/not liked by people.

I'm paranoid, so if it's me your talking about, I can tell you all reputations I've given out have been to people who I deem good posters who post well, help lots of people, and have good ideas.

In short, there's nothing wrong with that. I didn't want to get into it here, so I put my comments in a thread that I thought was more appropriate.

I know it doesn't officially matter yet, but it does have the potential to cause a lot of problems. I really don’t care about my reputation score that much, but I’m sure other people do. Its really not very nice to see that you “have had a little shameless behavior in the past,” especially when you haven’t done anything to deserve it. This gets even worse when you see that the people that gave you the negative reputation have a good reputations because all their friends have been rating them well. It just seems like it will be a huge popularity contest, and I know we’ve all gotten enough of that in high school .

The reputation system is there to encourage posting useful things and discourage spamming the boards. When people use it for other reasons, it can’t do anything but hurt people’s feelings. That’s not something we need here.

ahh. ok.

Yeah, I'm hoping next year we won't have to change servers again. Speaking of the new server -- anybody on the west coast experience the "12:47 slow-down" the last few nights? That was our main reason for getting off that other server.

Wow.....

I'm really really really liking this blue/grey/silver style. I know the colors would change but the setup is really nice too..

Some of the finer aspects of the new look bother me, but I am very happy about how the forum is now organized. This method is alot more logical and condusive to putting across alot of information. The most jarring aspect of the new style are the feildsets, so jarring that I am mentioning them in this post. They seriously need to make the border a solid "light" color. Not too worried though, styles can be easily changed.

Re: So how is it?

i havent voted yet because i am going between i hate it and i am still getting used to it ...

i obviously miss the traditional cd colours and white papers and galleries ... but that is all coming soon ... what i do not like about the new format is how the posts are set up .. but that will take some time getting used to .. i just looked in my user cp, and i must say that i absolutely love the way that that section is set up ... :) i miss the portal ... i liked that part for the times that i had limited time to check CD ... i like the new reputation system .. it makes a lot of sense to me ...

okay so maybe i should just vote im still getting used to it ...

but no matter what it looks like or even if it was not user friendly (which it isnt, but im just saying if it was) or if it was in extremely horrible eye-blinding colours (once again not that it is i am just saying if it was) .. i would still use CD and would still be sooooo glad that CD is back up ... thanks brandon!! :) (you cant be thanked enough!!)
