Re: Pet Peeves

A relatively new pet peeve: when squirrels ransack my office. So, for the second time this year, a squirrel got into our department over the weekend. Last time wasn't so bad... this time it went wild, and not a single office was spared! All of the papers on my desk were either scattered or splattered with droppings and sometimes both... my boxes of teas were all on the floor along with framed pictures that were next to them. My blinds were half way torn off of the wall and my potted plant was minus a lot of dirt. So we followed the droppings down the hall and saw scattered and splattered papers in every office, lamps knocked over, droppings, cups and mugs on the floor, more droppings, one co-worker lost a bag of peanuts to the little beast and every potted plant was trampled and torn. And finally, in the last office in the department, from the hanging plant, the nasty rodent peered down at us fearfully...

It's now in there with some live traps (our janitor tried to catch it first and ended up with scratches all over his face) and I've finally cleaned up all the droppings from my office... I think...

Pet Peeves in robotics... seeing as this IS a robotics forum...
Ok, we have a LOT of parents helping out this year, so we have a constant flow of food coming in. My pet peeve is FREE LOADERS. ARGH!!!! People, especially |\|008s who just come in, eat OUR food, and leave. GAR. Then those of us who have actually been WORKING don't have any good food because the dang |\|008s have eaten it all! GRRRR...
Then my next pet peeve is when couples come into robotics, and just knoodle the whole time! (knoodle = hug, kiss, exclude themselves from everything else, etc etc etc). That's why we give the "robotics friendly relationships" talk at the begining of the year. Hehehe... I have been deemed the Destroyer of PDA: AKA: the Anti-Cupid *evil grin*

I have two:

The first is ,freshmen, they must think that it is a proper greeting to slam someone into a wall or some thing. Just yesterday I had to get two of them to stop fighting at our meeting and apaerently they were friends, whats with that!

The second is the parents in the robotics club. They just started this year and its supposed to help us but I think they just get in the way. They also take our money for "dues." I realize their trying to help but seems to me they just get in the way.

Roommates that talk on the phone, and are so annoying - you are motivated to disconnect the phone line from the phones. My pet peeve: the roommate being so technically declined that they don't know why the phones won't work!

My pet peeve is as my friends call stupid but any way it is when your walking somewhere and it's a small area and the person in front of you stops and starts talking and will not move no mater how many times you ask them nicely.

My pet peeve is when ppl read over my shoulder, also when you start a conversation with someone else and someone comes and is like this convo. is stupid,I'm leaving, especially when they weren't in the convo. in the first place!

I think I hate it more than anything when people have no motivation...also I hate it when people are overly cynical...then I REALLY hate it when people are overly cynical AND unmotivated. GRRRRRRRR!

hmm.. pet peeves.. i'm not really a pet peeve kind of person- although i can be a tinsy bit of a perfectionist at times... :D but.. i do have to say that i find people who just continuously talk for no reason to be a bit annoying... acutally quite a bit annoying at times.

Re: Pet Peeves

It sure seems like I've been pet-peeving a lot lately, but this one is personal... Spiders. They’ve broken our agreement for the last time. I have no shame in admitting I do not like bugs… and have sent many to an early grave. But I always thought spiders and I had an agreement… they don’t invade my personal space and I don’t squash them. Live and let live. I abide by the agreement, even going as far as to have someone “rescue” spiders and set them free outside if I feel they are getting too close to my personal space. But over the years, spiders have broken the agreement, time and time again. Once, a tickling sensation woke me up and I peered blearily around just in time to see a big old spider go scurrying across my arm. Another time, a spider made me do the streak… I had been relaxing in a nice bubble bath, eyes closed, when I felt just the slightest motion of air in front of my face… and I opened my eyes to see two evil looking black eyes and way too many furry legs dangling in front of me… okay, so I did keep some dignity, it wasn’t a complete streak, I grabbed a towel before shrieking my way out of the bathroom… Now, that’s the main problem. Spiders make me shriek like a girly-girl. And it’s this shrieking that has made me finally call off the agreement. This morning, while talking someone on the phone about county codes and mold/mildew contamination, I absentmindedly toyed with my staple remover, flipping it over and over between my fingers. I looked down and there, sitting quite proudly on my hand was a spider as big as a quarter (well, it wasn’t quite that big, but it’s a well known fact that a spider on you is actually 5 times bigger than it was when it was still an inch away). Simultaneously, the staple remover and the spider went flying across the room as my shrieking hit new levels and I jerked away from my desk, pulling my phone to the floor with a resounding crash and knocking my cup of water over. The person I was talking to has never called me back, most likely because my shriek pierced his eardrum, or maybe he thinks my shriek indicates I’m a little over enthusiastic about mold… I may never know… but I do know this: spiders are going to be dying, oh yes, their little legs kicking all the way, whenever I see them… that is, if I don’t have to get too close to them…

i hate spiders too .. i am so extremely afraid of them to the point that i start to scream and cry whenever i see one in my house and its moving. depending on where it is and what time of day//night it is, i can deal with stationary ones.

my agreement with spiders is similar to yours .. i wont kill spiders in their natural environment .. and they shouldnt come inside (meaning home, school, etc.) if they come inside, they dont live ... i cant kill them because i am too scared but i scream and cry (im serious here) until someone in my house does kill them

/edit: okay ... so spiders wouldnt really classify as a pet peeve for me ... im just really really scared of them (anyone who has been to my house and seen me when i see a spider can vouch on this one)

i can't stand it when you are explaining something to a bunch of people and the not two minutes after you're done explaining it, one person asks you to explain something...and it's what you just finished explaining.

i also can't stand it when people eat with their mouths open. yuck! i don't wanna see what's in there so close it!

aaand... i really get annoyed with people who tell jokes that put down people of another race/sex/hair colour..etc...and then get offended when a joke about their race/sex/etc is made. i mean...if you can't take a joke about yourself, then don't joke about others. i mean..it *is* just a joke after all.

and i despise it when people tell you their beliefs (on politics, religion, or whatnot) but then can't back-up why their point of view is good. if you're going to state your opinion...make it educated, or else you're gonna be proven wrong by those who *do* know what they're talking about.

Most of the things that Kiwi_queen said I agree with. In fact alot of the things that other people have said I agree with. But they're not really that annoying to me. I am what most people would consider annoying.

I agree. It's really not that hard to have your other half be a member of the team and still be a productive member yourself. I should know. 814 is actually very much made up of couples. Only one of them is "knoodle" like, but still...it's annoying...
