Pet Peeves

What are everyone's pet peeves .. i know this is the similar to the i hate it when ... thread, but theres a difference ...

so ill start

- when someone has a single hair on their back .. i always pick it off .. whether i know them or not ... so if someone comes up to you at a competition and pulls hair off your back, it might just be me ...

My pet peeves are people who dont appreciate Windows and its greatness and people who like to post in every thread of a particular Forum in a matter of seconds or minutes....

My real pet peeves are people that don't follow rules and people that have no common sense.

Kyle hit the head right on the nail. The PC is the greatest thing that came to Windows.

Wow...Mike I adore you...

My pet peeve is favoritism blinding good judgment such as when casting a theatre piece or choosing directors for the student directed plays' night.

Also, people that join robotics just because it will look good on a college ap...only to quit the team 2 months later (after they got accepted to the program they were going after)

My pet peeve is people who loudly express their opinions without ever having thought about it, and then insisting that they are absolutely right, and everyone else is wrong.

Seconded, Jeff.

Also, I have come to hate the noises that people make when they eat. Which is not to say that I don't make the exact same noises, but they just don't annoy me as much.

People who want to talk when I just want some peace and quiet.

Terrible teachers, terrible students, people who irrationally hate things (except when I do it, myself) and people who think reading is uncool (because it's the coolest thing since The Ramones, honestly).

(I just got bored and watched 'Average Joe' - normally I don't watch TV - and was appalled at this girl turning down someone who is smart, funny, and has a great sense of humor to someone who has the personality of a pet rock.)

People who talk on their cell phones in the stalls in public bathrooms. First of all, it's disgusting, since there are lots of germs in there (think people, someone just handled that same door handle leaving the stall after completing their business that you just handled to lock the door, and now you're going to hold the phone up to your mouth? Talk about a potty mouth...). And second, it's just rude. Rude, rude, rude. I need to get a miniature tape recorder and record some really loud "bad time in the bathroom" noises (groans, moans, phltttt type noises, I'm sure you can find some on the Net...) and play it the next time I hear someone chatting away while doing what you don't normally talk about in polite company...

My pet peeve is when people say, "Oh man, that's so gay." "You really think that? You're gay." I hate that - homosexuality isn't stupid ... why use the word "gay" as a synonym for such? (if you want me to go more into detail as to why I hate it, PM me and I'll rant to you ;)) That and intelligent people who just act stupid for attention. Argh.

No, you aren't alone, I never heard that before either.

By definenition I think of the word "gay" as meaning "happy", created by some French dude(tte) in 1895.

I got to many p.p.'s to list, but here's a few:

1. The constant "like" in a sentence. Example: "Like, did you like, watch like, this funny movie? It was like, so like, awsome, like it was like the best movie I've like ever like watched!" (It's happened to me before)

2. When people don't know how to actually chew food, and they eat like a hungry dog. Yes, chew the food, but don't chomp down on it, open your mouth as much as you can, and close your mouth again making annoying noises....it's just not right.

3. Smoking. I hate it with a passion. Yes, I do hate it...and I'm aware of what "hate" means. I have just always hated the thought of how someone could waste their life away just for a short high. (This can also be drugs & alchohol...since I hate that stuff to).

4. When people don't listen to a word you say. Isn't it just lovely when people don't care what you have to say?

5. Stupidity. "To many people are to stupid to much of the time." - a quote from a kid in my Psych. class. 'nuff said.

6. Lastly, constant down-talking. Yes, you're down, we all are. I don't want to sound mean, and I like to talk people through their problems....but if you are constantly down-talking yourself, go see a psych(ologist/iatrist). I also don't like others putting down others. It's childish, and just stupid. The way you are/look/feel (emotions) are a part of you...it's cool to be like that.

So, what is the correct way to pronounce it?

Like the work "Porch" but with and "sh" instead of a "ch" sound, or do you go all fancy pants on it and add the "uh" sound at the end???

Porsha..Portia there is an "ah" sound at then end. We have a mentor who works at a Porsche speed shop and he races Porsches, the first thing he did was teach us how to pronounce Porsche.

okay .. the buttering of the toast is like this .. when it comes out of a toasteroven (which is what we have .. not an actual toaster) the "right" side to be buttered is the one that was face up in the toasteroven ( the other side has lines on it ) .. and it drives me crazy when the side with the lines on it ( the "wrong" side ) is buttered ...

is it just me that this bugs ??

Re: Pet Peeves

A relatively new pet peeve: when squirrels ransack my office. So, for the second time this year, a squirrel got into our department over the weekend. Last time wasn't so bad... this time it went wild, and not a single office was spared! All of the papers on my desk were either scattered or splattered with droppings and sometimes both... my boxes of teas were all on the floor along with framed pictures that were next to them. My blinds were half way torn off of the wall and my potted plant was minus a lot of dirt. So we followed the droppings down the hall and saw scattered and splattered papers in every office, lamps knocked over, droppings, cups and mugs on the floor, more droppings, one co-worker lost a bag of peanuts to the little beast and every potted plant was trampled and torn. And finally, in the last office in the department, from the hanging plant, the nasty rodent peered down at us fearfully...

It's now in there with some live traps (our janitor tried to catch it first and ended up with scratches all over his face) and I've finally cleaned up all the droppings from my office... I think...

Pet Peeves in robotics... seeing as this IS a robotics forum...
Ok, we have a LOT of parents helping out this year, so we have a constant flow of food coming in. My pet peeve is FREE LOADERS. ARGH!!!! People, especially |\|008s who just come in, eat OUR food, and leave. GAR. Then those of us who have actually been WORKING don't have any good food because the dang |\|008s have eaten it all! GRRRR...
Then my next pet peeve is when couples come into robotics, and just knoodle the whole time! (knoodle = hug, kiss, exclude themselves from everything else, etc etc etc). That's why we give the "robotics friendly relationships" talk at the begining of the year. Hehehe... I have been deemed the Destroyer of PDA: AKA: the Anti-Cupid *evil grin*

I have two:

The first is ,freshmen, they must think that it is a proper greeting to slam someone into a wall or some thing. Just yesterday I had to get two of them to stop fighting at our meeting and apaerently they were friends, whats with that!

The second is the parents in the robotics club. They just started this year and its supposed to help us but I think they just get in the way. They also take our money for "dues." I realize their trying to help but seems to me they just get in the way.

Re: Pet Peeves

It sure seems like I've been pet-peeving a lot lately, but this one is personal... Spiders. They’ve broken our agreement for the last time. I have no shame in admitting I do not like bugs… and have sent many to an early grave. But I always thought spiders and I had an agreement… they don’t invade my personal space and I don’t squash them. Live and let live. I abide by the agreement, even going as far as to have someone “rescue” spiders and set them free outside if I feel they are getting too close to my personal space. But over the years, spiders have broken the agreement, time and time again. Once, a tickling sensation woke me up and I peered blearily around just in time to see a big old spider go scurrying across my arm. Another time, a spider made me do the streak… I had been relaxing in a nice bubble bath, eyes closed, when I felt just the slightest motion of air in front of my face… and I opened my eyes to see two evil looking black eyes and way too many furry legs dangling in front of me… okay, so I did keep some dignity, it wasn’t a complete streak, I grabbed a towel before shrieking my way out of the bathroom… Now, that’s the main problem. Spiders make me shriek like a girly-girl. And it’s this shrieking that has made me finally call off the agreement. This morning, while talking someone on the phone about county codes and mold/mildew contamination, I absentmindedly toyed with my staple remover, flipping it over and over between my fingers. I looked down and there, sitting quite proudly on my hand was a spider as big as a quarter (well, it wasn’t quite that big, but it’s a well known fact that a spider on you is actually 5 times bigger than it was when it was still an inch away). Simultaneously, the staple remover and the spider went flying across the room as my shrieking hit new levels and I jerked away from my desk, pulling my phone to the floor with a resounding crash and knocking my cup of water over. The person I was talking to has never called me back, most likely because my shriek pierced his eardrum, or maybe he thinks my shriek indicates I’m a little over enthusiastic about mold… I may never know… but I do know this: spiders are going to be dying, oh yes, their little legs kicking all the way, whenever I see them… that is, if I don’t have to get too close to them…

i hate spiders too .. i am so extremely afraid of them to the point that i start to scream and cry whenever i see one in my house and its moving. depending on where it is and what time of day//night it is, i can deal with stationary ones.

my agreement with spiders is similar to yours .. i wont kill spiders in their natural environment .. and they shouldnt come inside (meaning home, school, etc.) if they come inside, they dont live ... i cant kill them because i am too scared but i scream and cry (im serious here) until someone in my house does kill them

/edit: okay ... so spiders wouldnt really classify as a pet peeve for me ... im just really really scared of them (anyone who has been to my house and seen me when i see a spider can vouch on this one)

i can't stand it when you are explaining something to a bunch of people and the not two minutes after you're done explaining it, one person asks you to explain something...and it's what you just finished explaining.

i also can't stand it when people eat with their mouths open. yuck! i don't wanna see what's in there so close it!

aaand... i really get annoyed with people who tell jokes that put down people of another race/sex/hair colour..etc...and then get offended when a joke about their race/sex/etc is made. i mean...if you can't take a joke about yourself, then don't joke about others. i mean..it *is* just a joke after all.

and i despise it when people tell you their beliefs (on politics, religion, or whatnot) but then can't back-up why their point of view is good. if you're going to state your opinion...make it educated, or else you're gonna be proven wrong by those who *do* know what they're talking about.
