Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to...
[edit]Until an admin changes the thread title, the title of the thread is meant to be sarcastic. You know, kinda like what they did in that one Simpsons episode.
Seriously though, what did everyone else think of Return of the King? Personally, I can't really find anything wrong with it. Some of the people I saw it with this evening thought the ending was drawn out. Yeah, it was, but when you're closing such an indepth trilogy, I personally think its better to end all the stories right than to leave the viewer saying, "but what happened to so-and-so...?" What do you guys think? |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to die and Gollum to actually be Sarumon!
It would've been nice to have Sharkey and his goons at the end, but seeing as I was one of the ones that thought it was a bit drawn out, I guess I see why it was cut :p.
Overall, someone please kill me now, because there will never be another movie that is so amazing. Just the scenes set around Minas Tirith, wow. So amazing! Plus, gotta love all the random commentary from Ben... Sam sure needs to get a livejournal... |
Spoileerr!!!!
You should have titled this thread "Lord of the rings spoiler" so those of us that haven't seen the movie yet could have enjoyed it

[edit] Well, the new vB still doesn't allow thread starters to change the name of the thread, and I tried to delete this but only came up with a bug in the forum. Perhaps an admin can help me out and rename this thread to something like, "Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to..." |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to die and Gollum to actually be Sarumon!
I thought it was awesome. That is all.
|
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to die and Gollum to actually be Sarumon!
I read the trilogy two years ago, and my favorite aspect was that the story had that kind of drawn-out ending (that it concluded the 'what happened to them next?' idea)
I haven't seen the third movie yet, but I'm glad to hear that they kept that ending and didn't abruptly end the movie right after the climax (I HATE it when writers do that!) I'll probably go see it this weekend. |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to...
I loved the cameo by Sloth.
![]() :D No, but seriously, great movie. It made having to stay up for 32 hours worth it. |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
It was amazing in so many ways. I'm glad I didn't sleep Wednesday morning :D
|
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
I was completely blown away. I'm supposta go see it three more times in the next three days. :)

Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to...
Gah, I hated that orc!
I just wish he died! Seriously, when he almost got hit by that flying rock, we all booed :p. |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
I thought the RotK was a terrific trailer for the director's cut!
Seriously, I feel Jackson has defined the criteria for an A+ movie rating with this one. The charge of the Rohirrim gave me chills, not for the special effects, great as they are, but for the way Jackson captured the grim determination of Theoden, Eomer and the other live characters. I am continually amazed at how closely Jackson's view of Middle Earth landmarks match my mental images I developed reading (and re-reading) the trilogy. |

Non-idealistically now, people complained about the length of the ending as is.... if this part was included, it would increase the length of the ending by atleast another half hour. You'd have people walking out or turning it off if that happened. |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
The choice to cut out Saruman and the scouring of the shire was warranted. I thought it was a good choice. But because of that, I'd have expected more battle scenes and less ending!
Great movie, but I could've done with more and longer visuals... The final battle at the black gate was also a little weak. I was expecting that to be pretty huge too. Legolas' battle with the one oliphaunt was very cool, but I get frustrated when he says blatantly obvious lines [in all the movies] and then just stops there. Gimli amuses me much more. My favorite event: Gandalf smacking down Denethor with his staff. I wonder... if they toned dow the rendering quality and resolution a bit so that it could be rendered in real-time, what would WETA charge for people to play 'Battle of Minas Tirith'? |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
I think it was awesome... I do not really want to go in depth into any flaws or ne thing (their were very few) We all went and seen us since us FIRST people are addicted to this type of stuff. Make your own judgement.
The only was to descrire the movie was great. -Greg The Great |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
I thought the Last Movie was great! I thought the ending was really awesome....it could have been a little better, but i thought it was still awesome. I thought that the fact that it was "drawn out" was alright, because it left out the questions about what happened to....and yeah..Can't wait till the hobbit....eh?.....cuz it is comming out....Peter Jackson will get paid millions of dollars to make it....it has to come out...right?

Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
Okay, I loved the movie, but was anyone unimpressed with the CG flames? especially the mountain beacon's, they could've made that look real.
|
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to...
I really liked it, but when Frodo ran into the mountain, the CG work was utter crap. I mean, it was like he was running on a moving sidewalk!
Anyway, very good movie, but also to add, I really wanted Hugo to do something Agent Smith-like in this movie, it would just be so funny.... |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to...
there really are no words to describe this movies awesomeness.

Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
I feel outnumbered...
I saw it last night and I wasn't too happy with it. First off, the best part of the book of RoTK was the Scouring of the Shire and the description of the year 1420. The complete removal of that sequence bothered me. Also, where were the Houses of Healing? The power of Merry's blade could have been explained there, the healing hand of the king, and the Faramir/Eowyn sequence could have been inserted. The Paths of the Dead were too undramatic and the Palantir served nearly no purpose. Lord Denethor was not as noble and high as he was in the books. I was extemely pleased with the battle outside Minas Tirith. The chanting of "grond" while it smashed the gates, the charge of the Rohirrim, and the ferocity of the battle was excellent. Also when Aragorn alighted from the Corsairs of Umbar, the "great deadly light" could be seen in his eyes. Minas Tirith was built nearly the way I had imagined it, with the great forecourt of the white tree and all. Overall, I like the Fellowship movie better. Btw, for those who have read the trilogy, what was your favorite book of the three? I liked RoTK best, because of the Scouring of the Shire. |
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
My perspective is that of someone who's never read the novels and did not see either of the first two films in this trilogy in the movie theater. I just saw Return of the King this afternoon.
I liked it a lot. These three films are among the best movies I've seen in years, and I'm glad to see that the cost and allure of computer generated special effects has been diminished, such that it allows storytelling to move to the forefront once more. Overall, through the three films, I've been impressed with how many intricate plots were taking place at one time and the skill with which the filmmakers told those stories. Cutting back and forth didn't at all distract from the movies. I'm inclined to say that this was my favorite of the three movies, but that may be solely because it's fresh in my mind. In particular, I enjoyed the scenes with those enormous elephant-like things, the giant eagles, and, for whatever reason, Legolas. I have been giving thought to some of the potential racial stereotypes that were "employed" by the film, but I'm not sure how I feel about them yet. I didn't like Frodo or Gollum in this movie one bit. I think they were both the weakest performances. I totally do not understand why they boarded that ship at the end. At all. I'd appreciate it greatly if someone would explain that to me. |

Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
I thought they did about as well as anyone could expect at turning those books into reasonably-lengthed movies without losing too much. I would say that the trilogy together are probably some of the best movies ever both in story and in technical aspects. The more you watch it the more you notice, but I think i'm going to wait for the DVD rather than watch it a third time :D
|
Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
Well, hopefully they put it into the extended edition. I thought that the ordeal with "Sharkey" was pretty important. Of course I'm a big LOTR buff so I'd like to have seen them do the ENTIRETY of the books on the big screen. But if they had done that then the movies each would have lasted about half a day to a day. It's amazing that they were able to cut it down to 3 to 3 and a half hours.:)

Re: Man, I sure didn't expect Frodo to ... **POSSIBLE SPOILERS**
The day this movie comes out on DVD, ii'm buyin it... then my trilogy collection will be COMPLETE!! *MUAHAHAHAHAHA!* :p
