Riddle!

Hey All,

I Have a riddle for anyone who would like to give me an answer!

There's 3 words in the english language that end in gry. One is Angry, The Second is Hungry. What is the Third word

Enjoy the riddle and get back to me with an answer.

If you do not wish to share your answer with others to see what they say then PM me with the answer

Mike

I could be mistaken but I think you worded the riddle incorrectly. It happens often and such is the crux of the problem when people try to figure it out. I think it should be:

Quote:

"Think of words ending in -GRY. Angry and hungry are two of them. There are only three words in: the English language. What is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have listened carefully, I have already told you what it is."
If that's the actual riddle, then I know the answer. If it was actually what you stated...well, can't help you there.

Ah, riddles in the dark, a very ancient and sacred game particularly relevant today :)

language –$@#very clever

Here's a more philosophical one:

What is the beginning of eternity, the end of time and space, the beginning of every end and the end of every race?

That might be the way the riddle is stated. The Secretary up at my job however said it the way I posted it. However the answer to it should be the same.

IF anyone else has riddles feel free to post them on here. :D

what crime can you comit but not be punished for?

Re: Riddle!

Well, I was going to say gry (I've seen that very old decimal system before). But by modern standards, that is a very interesting riddle.

Re: Riddle!

I would just like to know who actually figured out that there are three qords in the English language ending in gry. Does someone actually sit there and go through the whole dictionary tallying up the words that end in each suffix or something?

Gabriel 19-12-2003 17:32

Re: Riddle!

Most UNIX systems such as Mac OS X include a list of all the words in the English language which you can grep to find all words containing gry. You can find these lists online as well.

Re: Riddle!

Advice to everyone: if you're trying to solve the riddle, look at Kristina's version. I think that, in the format Mike originally posted it, the point of the riddle is lost. Besides...Kristina's version is much less confusing. :D

Re: Riddle!

how about this:

the word can be represented by 12345678
1234 is an atmospheric condition.
34567 supports a plant.
4567 is to appropriate.
678 is a name.

...I think i just got smoked.

Re: Riddle!

Are you guys showing any answers to these, if you got them? I am going crazy trying to do these.

KenWittlief 19-12-2003 23:01

Re: Riddle!

actually it only took me about 2 minutes

I looked up 'appropriate' in the Word thesaurus

there was only one 4 letter match

the rest was obvious then

haveing my name in there might have helped a little :c)

oh, well that makes me feel much better...

during the two week period that it took us to figure it out, I (and multiple others) got 'mist', 'take', and 'stake' on 3 seperate occasions, but never put them together.

there was an additional hint on the original:

"45 is a curt thank you."

[shrugs] i'm still stumped by that one. 'ta'? go figure...

Okay, i think it is time for a new riddle.....
This one is my favorite, but i've already told a whole bunch of people, oh well

Four men sat down to play,
They played all night 'till break of day.
They played for gold and not for fun
With separate scores for everyone.
When they came to square accounts,
They all had played quite fair amounts.
Can you the paradox explain,
If no one lost, how could all gain?

got me. In light of the new season arriving. I say that since the 6 weeks draws much confusion that we also throw in a riddle a week for the entirety of the 6 weeks. Think of the riddles as a small break away from building a robot. we'll start the week off with spammy's riddle. quoted above.
next saturday will be a new riddle. answers to these riddles can be posted the friday before the new riddle gets posted.

(i.e. Saturday January 10 New Riddle, Friday January 16 answer to the January 10 gets posted. January 17 new riddle and well im sure you get the idea.) If your excessively busy building your robot and have an answer but no time to post it you may email it to me and i can post it for you with your name next to the answer OR have a fellow CD member whos on ure team post it.

Sounds complicated but it will take some of the stress away from the building season.
