Blowing off some steam

Hey!
I was just wondering what some of you do to blow off some steam and have soem fun? Last year we played a type of dodgeball but we broke a clock so that got banned. SO I was just wondering what you all were doing for fun?
Thanks,

Adrian Wong 04-02-2002 22:27

Our team does Counter-Strike. :) Well, we used to in the pre-season, now we're just too behind to do any CS. *grin*

rocky115k 04-02-2002 22:30

Have people file of alluminum, polish, and make crimps!!!

JK mostly we just kinda stop working and starting cracking jokes (roughly in that order) and I warn you they can get really really bad. I give examples but these kinda jokes loose their appeal when the moment is lost, such as: "Hey, look over there" (with no idication of direction)

Tyler Olds 04-02-2002 22:43

lol

Yeah we played cs, but um yeah, out teacher ended up finding out with the district, and um, yeha that didnt go over too well lol.

ColleenShaver 05-02-2002 00:12

we have a pretty fun atmosphere in the shop.. so we're always joking around and having a good time..

but every saturday night we close the shop around midnight and go and play CRUD for an hour or so..

it's fun and builds some team unity.. and let's the steam out (too much sometimes :P)

Tyler Olds 05-02-2002 00:28

CRUD???

Ok maybe its just from being from WI, or im just infactuated with my comp that I dont know what CRUD is. Would you mind explaining it to me?
thanks

mnkysp6353 05-02-2002 02:43

I let off steam by poking the underclassmen with a stick.

Clark Gilbert 05-02-2002 11:11

Paintball

Normally before the season starts the Technokats play paintball a couple times...(dont know how well it would go over during build season), but this is an excellent way to "promote" team work and to get to know people, while blasting the heck out of them with paint!!!!!

If anyone has a paintball place in our near your town i would highly recommend it for your team.

:D

Wetzel 05-02-2002 16:19

We go out and get food. Some of us may drive a tad fast (70-80+), but we get food. It lots of fun when 4 carloads of hungry robtics kids showup at Taco Bell.
Or we park our cars in such a way as to block others in...saran wrap...

And other stuff mostly related to goofing off.

COOKIE 05-02-2002 16:58

70-80+ more like plus and trying to go inbetween cars on a two lane road

Wetzel 05-02-2002 17:01

*whistles*

Mimi Brown 05-02-2002 22:10

BOWLING!!! YEAH!!!

Each Saturday, we collect empty bottles of water, set them up in the ten pin pattern, and bowl in the hallway with either a roll of duct tape or the FIRST soccer balls...:D

AdamT 05-02-2002 22:39

I like to drive fast. MMM, I want to make my car at least a 15 second car. Probably could and it wouldn't be too hard, just need the money. Usually I actually just go to the gym or play guitar. I love my guitars.

Wetzel 05-02-2002 22:45

I'm trying to learn how to play a guitar...
Not doing very well, but that may be because I have no books/music/tabs/someone telling me what to do. Just an acustic I am borrowing from my girl.

mnkysp6353 06-02-2002 01:54

I usually take a nap during class or run out into the street naked screaming i am a bannana. I have a lot of steam now because all of the wieners on my team keep asking me stupid questions like why wont the 3/8" wrench fit the 3/" nut? or Is the robot finished yet? I cant believe it takes all six weeks to build a little robot.
I warn them all that they will get left in florida and that i have already offered them as slaves to any robotics team that wants them if they dont stop asking stupid questions.

Wetzel 06-02-2002 02:02

I'll take some slave monkeys in Florida to go get me food.

AdamT 06-02-2002 02:31

Oh yeah, I fogot one thing.

I do enjoy the occational prank or two to blow off some steam!

Carolyn Duncan 06-02-2002 02:39

HEHE Last year I was a food runner. I took orders and brought food back for the people who requested and paid for it. I didn't mind. As for venting... well its mostly the mentors on the team but we listen to music or comedy. As for the students, they go home and study. Or some of tehm hang out with me and we go to IHOP at 12:30 am... Better yet we go to concerts. Makes life interesting. I like to play crud and I used to play back home, but noone here knows that game... I guess I shall be teaching it soon though. I prefer to play pranks after build season... like at competitions...

Wetzel 06-02-2002 16:31

At nats we went to the Awlful Waffle at 3:3...10:30, well before bed check. It was fun.

Tyler Olds 06-02-2002 18:08

hey

hey um not to liek burst your bubble,

I should have said this earlyer.

I kinda ment what to you guys do as a team to blow off some steam???? Though I do liek the poking a freshman with a stick idea LOL!!

C yah

Wetzel 06-02-2002 18:24

I think the only team based steam blowing we do is lunch/dinner on build days.

Tyler Olds 07-02-2002 19:03

yeha we do that too, but yeah we work everyday, so we just need a break sometimes, especially me considering my "build" goes until like march 18!!!

mnkysp6353 07-02-2002 20:07

Carolyn i will take 2 tacos and a coke.

Wetzel 07-02-2002 21:30

I'll take an animatronic bagel, some cream cheese, and some OJ.
Thanks Carolyn!:)

The 08-02-2002 00:05

We play rugby. When it is late at night, we get our cars out and shine our lights on the fields. We also have been playing cross campus capture the flag. That is really fun.

Carolyn Duncan 08-02-2002 00:43

You guys can place all the orders you want but you gotta show me the money, which means you gotta find me first.

I found you there you are right next to the large tree.

Carolyn Duncan 08-02-2002 22:27

While it's flattering that you were looking for me, I regret to inform you that you have not found me. That is some other chic. Sorry but your efforts have yielded you nothing but lost time in your life.
HAHA! I'm just kiding, but that's not me.

volleygrrl234 13-02-2002 14:07

we usually just sit around and do nothing.... playing euchre is cool too

Paintball...very fun. We went a while ago. Had a blast. Tad expensive, but worth it.

Euchre...awesome game...

As is CRUD...can't get enough CRUD...

asher 14-02-2002 23:51

its just sad when we all go to the grocery store and the clerks seriously ask us if were all part of one family (ok so most of us look kinda alike, but still, 10 kids all the same age?) ping pong is our new passion, were planning to have a table or two at the st louis regional so we dont kill each other, come challenge us, well love it (ive perfected my backhand, but yes my serve needs work) :)

asher

oh and jones, you gotta have a ton of jones soda (preferably fufu berry for me thanks)

gildorr 18-02-2002 00:23

heh, we did this earlier today, the video is actually in the general forum under "so how are YOU getting to the competitions?" what we did was see how many people we could fit in the crate we are going to be shipping our robot in, we managed to get 17 in there with a very tight fit. we actually were wondering how many people other teams could fit in their crates, can anyone beat 17?

Stephanie 18-02-2002 02:20

oooh!! i wanna try to beat it, i'm not sure we will tho...that's pretty good ;)
also, what is CRUD?

What was your percentage? Last year my team fit 100% of the students in the crate... There were of course only 5 of us...

17/25 or so?
68%?
Maybe higher.
But standing was better than trying with some people sitting down. I got to be one of the three guys on the bottom. :D
After the 16th person got on I called it quits. It also took them like 5 minutes between each layer to get new people in.
I lost all feeling in my legs, and when the fourth layer got in it turned to a burning sensation in my right leg.
I called it after the 5th layer got in, I was beginning to become afraid of actuall damage to my legs/feet, as I was sure the feet were not getting anywhere near proper ciculation...

Had fun anyways.

AdamT 18-02-2002 02:52

That's a good idea. That would be a good stress reliever. We have a pretty crate this year.

dlavery 18-02-2002 22:13

Sorry, Carolyn, that wasn't me. I made the classic mistake of walking away from the computer while still logged in to CD, and one of my wonderful team members made the offer "on my behalf."

So, no kooky dance this year.

Unless we do well at Nationals. In which case "Dave's Happy Dance" may have to be seen in public once again.

Whether the Dave's Happy Dance will be performed with or without hair will depend on how we do at VCU.

Yes Dave, you may remain dry for the kooky dance. And don't worry, we have a lot of in-team pranking to do, so I'm not sure that I'll have much time to go down the road to your hotel. *opps, I think I may have said too much ;-) *
