Kickoff Central 2004 - Official Announcement

Kickoff Central 2004!!

Well, it took a little bit of work, but I think I got everything up and running. Here's the link... http://hyperrules.chiefdelphi.com/kickoff/

If you have any problems with the site, drop me an e-mail...can't guarantee when I'll read it, but just let me know...

Quicktime Stream

Why can't FIRST just offer a Quicktime stream of the Kick-Off? It's faster, easier to use, and offers higher quality for lower bandwidths.

Will you be able to view the 2004 kick-off live over the web with this link? If so this great becuase our team was disappointed we could only bring 10 member to the kick off this year.

Because NASA is the one doing the streaming, not FIRST, and they do it for free.

in regards to the tigerbolt chat.....

that java consol used here http://www.rit.edu/~us1stwww/chatindex.html is very sketchy at best. the best way to use the chat is in any standard irc client (mirc, trillian, etc) the server name is irc.webmaster.com and the channel is called firstrobotics if you go in using a client the chat is fully functional but don’t rely on that java one on the website...we welcome you to join us on the day of the kick off

but anyway great job nate!

Broadcast.com used to have lots of realy good streams in different formats, but now its part of yahoo platinum. o well below is a bunch of links i have found for streams. other than the one on nates site.

http://www.gumbynet.com/shuttle/shuttle_realvid.html
http://www.ambitweb.com/nasacams/webcams.shtml
http://www.unitedspacealliance.com/live/nasatv.htm
http://www.team188.com/2002/videos/nasatv.shtml

Its really too bad that broadcast.com went away they had the best streams, of course these streams may not work if the mars landing gets bumped back.

Pardon my ignorance on the subject ... but is there a way to "capture" streaming video and save to your hard drive ??

There is indeed... I've been looking for a way to do that lately and I found a program called "Real7ime Converter". It only works with Real Media streams though, and saves them on your hard drive as AVIs. The files get pretty big though; 4 minutes of streaming video became a 400 MB compressed AVI file.

Re: Kickoff Central 2004 - Official Announcement

Because I've gotten a few questions about this already...

The reason I moved away from using the Tigerbolt chat server for this year's kickoff site as I have done in the past is due to their flaky (at best) Nickserv/Chanserv system. I remember a lot of times when I (somewhat) recently tried getting in through the java system, some strange nick/chanserv error would prevent me from getting into the chat(nick must be registered, etc, etc...even with a registered nick)...if this problem has since been resolved, drop me an e-mail, and I will have no problems using Tigerbolt's system again this year for the Kickoff site. I know that I was the one who originally introduced the founder of the Tigerbolt chat to Webmaster's system, but the Webmaster server seems to have deteriorated in recent months. If I could rely upon the majority of the visitors to have and know how to use an IRC client, i would simply put the server information in place for that, but the core reason for the Kickoff Central site is to provide a central location for all things kickoff-related, and having to open another app to have some things work, in my opinion, takes away from that central goal...

I don't remember the program I used last year, but I was able to record the Windows Media stream, and it worked out pretty well...do a bit of googling and I'm sure you could find something...

Yes there are.

However, this is against the terms of useage/license agreement. The one I have, the company was sued by Real and had to stop offering the program. This happened back in 2000 or so.

It is also againts the ChiefDelphi rules to discuss 'warez' and stuff here, so I can't tell you here how to record streams.

So it is doable, just many programs have been shut down by real/ms.

Not sure if it's just me or not, but the countdown seems to be counting down to 3pm on January 10th (EST). Could it just be a timezone setting? (it is 5 hours off, so it may be set to GMT)

Re: Kickoff Central 2004 - Official Announcement

The server its on (chiefdelphi.com) is set to GMT. So if it's using the system time, you are correct.

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 14:34.
