LAN party, anyone?

I was just idley thinking, and I realized that there are a great many references to Counter-Strike on CD...

I am an avid CS fan, I've been playing since Beta 5.2, though there have been some times when I've not played in a while... :(

Well, more idle thought...
How about LAN parties after every regional, or after Nationals, or even just some other time in the future...

Think about it... organized robotics people's LAN parties...
Would that not be cool?

Well, I'll get back to being bored in class now...

Post a reply if you're interested, please.

I have been pondering taking my computer and speakers(Z-560 THX) to nats, but see no easy way of getting it there. We are flying, and does my monitor and case count as carryons? Also, what if they insist on x-raying the case:eek:
Any solutions?

Jon Lawton 05-02-2002 19:08

HECK YES! LAN-PARTY! Sign me up!

Wetzel, I'm not sure that X-Raying your box would be such a big problem. Of course, if you were really worried about it, you could pull your magentic drives and box them seperately. You could also get a laptop? :)

Wetzel 05-02-2002 20:39

Athlon XP 1700+
Soyo Dragon Plus
512 DDR RAM
60GB 7,200 Maxtor HD
16x10x40 Lite-On CDRW
12x Sony DVD
GEFORCE2 MX-400 AGP 64MB VIDEO CARD
350 watt power supply (AMD approved)
Eagle Aluminum case
19 inch KDS flat screen monitor with Trinitron tube
APC Back-UPS Pro 650VA
Logitech Z-560 THX

Thats why I wanna take my own computer...
Besides, my laptop is a paltry 350 PII with a bum LCD.:(

How big is the carry on size? I am thing four carryon items.
Monitor, case, speakers, massive ups (2 hour). RtCW on the flight down anyone? :D
I need to check on who we are flying and their carryon rules...but then I wouldn't get any sleep.

You silly people, we're not THAT far from you. Tough it out, it's only a 13-18 hour bus ride!!!

Hey! 668 will take you up on that if 401 picks up the bill! ;)

AdamT 06-02-2002 01:06

Oh Jon, I was reffereing to any team from Va or NC. 116 in this case.

Wetzel 06-02-2002 01:30

13-18 hour bus ride...to Florida?
We fly to Florida, 10 students (filght and pit) go down in enginners cars on Thursday, the rest bus down on Saturday. If I go on Thursday in a car, then my computer becomes easy.:D

/me confuses easily

Perhaps a huge LAN party at Nationals is not quite convenient, most people would be doubling the amount of luggage they bring, and the fact that, for the most part, peoples' minds will be elsewhere from playing games (besides The Game).

Maybe we should think about organized regional LAN parties after Nationals?

Dave_222 06-02-2002 12:56

Im all for it but that will depend on the game im a tfc freak from back in the day cs is a good game and all but i still prefer the control of tfc.

Wetzel 06-02-2002 15:49

I am a Tribes and RtCW player.
The flamethrower is fun.:D

FotoPlasma 08-02-2002 12:05

I just played the demos for RtCW, but the flamethrower was oh so very cool...

Too many people using it without control in the MP Test, though...

It made me sad/angry when one teammate would obliterate me and half of the rest of the team in 30 seconds...

Dave_222 08-02-2002 12:35

Even beter than tfc would be diablo.

I know exactly what you mean....
Thats why I run my own server after the rest of my haouse has gone to sleep...hurray for cable modems, but 6 computers in this house taxes it a bit to run a server...

FotoPlasma 08-02-2002 15:33

I am all to aware of server woes for games...

You get really annoyed when you're LAN partying with friends, and you can't add more than 6 or 7 bots in Counter-Strike without the server getting bogged down...

That's the time you know you need a dual Athlon XP +2400 server... :D

== PREPARE TO BE PISTOL WHIPPED ==

If anyone feels like taking on team 588 ([ApR] clan) at Kennedy Space Center/ Southeast regional or Nationals bring it on. Prepare for a whipping.

BTW, we can bring along a 16 port 10/100 switch, 8 port 10/100 hub, and I think another 8 port switch. We got cable to feed quite a few people.

Sean_330 09-02-2002 21:43

CS rocks!!!!!!!!!

For all the teams going to the LA regional. There is a place called the "Internet PC club" about 8 miles from where the regional is held. Using a number of servers, they have more than 120 1.6 GHz pentium 4s networked. They have games such as CS, Quake 3 Arena, Unreal Tournament, and other multiplayer games enabling you to make teams and set up your own multiplayer games. I know some of my team is going there after the competetion on thursday, and if any teams would like to join us we would be happy to give you all the info about this place. It only costs $1.25 per hour and is faster than most LANs.

It is located at 1451 w. Artesia Blvd, Gardena, CA 90248

Wetzel 09-02-2002 21:44

Does no one like the multiplayer goodness that is RtCW?

[nWp]-JakeAce- 09-02-2002 23:13

on behalf of Team 588, I cordially invite you all to an old-fashioned pwning. Anyone willing to face Team 588/Clan [ApR] please email me.We will be attending the KSC regional and national events

Dave_222 11-02-2002 13:53

No one shares my views on diablo? None of you play on battle.net??? What has this world come to????

Wayne Doenges 11-02-2002 16:17

I can't think of any way to get my computer to a regional or the nats that won't affect my comp or my wallet.
If you play online and see Demolition Man or Ctrl_Alt_Del, say hi :)
Now if I can find a server that doesn't allow aimbot cheats I would be happy.

i will own you all in quake 3 arena. :D

Well, I used to play D2 a lot...
I'm partial to FPS games, rather than RPGs, though...

Wetzel 11-02-2002 21:44

I recomend that you all play RtCW! Return to Castle Wolfenstein is the bestest multiplayer FPS that I have played since Tribes.

Play Tribes as well!

Curtis Williams 12-02-2002 20:38

We have found that medal of honor is AWESOME to play at lan parties. So, who all is bringing their computer to Nationals? KSC Regional?

Wetzel 12-02-2002 20:54

If I can figure out a good way to takeit on the plane...:(
RtCW is a better multi than MOH, but MOH is a better single than RtCW, IMHO. :)

Any suggestions on getting the computer to nats? I am at least gonna bring me speakers so we can have a party...the Logitech Z560 THX....400 watts of musical goodness. :)

FotoPlasma 13-02-2002 00:06

I'm not sure about computers at Nats...
People may be too entangled in the actual competition to keep track of their computers and what-have-you...

Post-Regional LAN parties was the original intent, and my primary focus was to organize one for Silicon Valley teams, perhaps to be held a day or so after the regional itself (but scheduling has not come up at all, yet)...

I don't mean to exclude any teams, it just seems that a more regional event is more realistic...

Any more comments would and will be greatly appreciated, especially from SV teams interested in having a fairly large LAN party at some point (even after Nats is a possibility)...

Curtis Williams 13-02-2002 07:38

Well, anyone who brings a computer on a plane, be careful. If you have an Athlon Thunderbird/MP/XP, you might want to remove the heatsink. If the computer gets jarred too hard, the heatsink might crush a corner of the core. Unless you want an excuse to upgrade. :D

Dave_222 13-02-2002 13:12

Shooters are ok but they are kinda ond dimensional I mean you run jump duck and shoot. repeat as necicary. now rpgs such as diablo and diablo 2 reguire a much more complicated train of thought and a more sophisicated bundle of tactics.

Thanks, and with my 1700 XP, I don't feel like upgrading yet. It got at least another month before I melt it due to overclocking. Gonna try to get it to 1.7 actual, from 1.47. :)

Your thoughts on RTS? Age of Empires in particuar.
FPS get more interesting when you get good players that can work together playing.

Curtis Williams 13-02-2002 18:59

If you like age of empires, try Empire Earth. Its by the creators of age of empires. It runs on a true 3d engine. there are 14 ages you can go through. its awesome

Dave_222 14-02-2002 12:59

RTS is cool to. However i have more or less devoted my gaming time to rpg's as of latley. I used to be a huge fan of C&C . Ages of Empires is cool i like the second one best.
