New FIRST Logo
Hey~
Well.. I was watching the kickoff today, and was noticeing on the splash screen in the beginning (and other parts throughout) that FIRST has modified the logo so that colors are no longer the solid red, white, and blue but gradients of the colors. Honestly, I wasn't able to find (in the two minutes i spent looking) a picture of the new logo online.. but I know that they were using it at the kickoff.. What do you think of the gradient colors on the logo? Personally, I'm not a big fan of it & hope that FIRST doesn't switch most of it's digital logos to that. The biggest reasons are: a)It doesn't print well. Ok.. mabey it might print fine, but in terms of shirts embroidered with it, or other things which require basic colors, the gradients won't work.. I think it would be better to stay with the common solid logo, rather than have the two different colored ones. b)and well.. honestly i just don't like the gradient one ;) Jack |
Re: New FIRST Logo
we had no video for the first part of kickoff...then it was UBER LESS RES but i did notice that
personally i dont care. its FIRST's call let them do what they want :D |
Re: New FIRST Logo
you sure it wasn't just a bad connection? we had one that looked like that, but after it started it was blurred, so we ended up switching to a much better feed. just a guess.

David Kelly came to the rescue and gave a feed that was much better for the time being though :] |
Re: New FIRST Logo
Our video wasn't that bad but our audio had terrible static running through it..

Re: New FIRST Logo
From my experience with projectors (specially digital ones) is that they can never do pinkish color (Even though technically it should be red) as the one used in the first logo. That's why for a lot of people the logo didn't look very nice.

Re: New FIRST Logo
FIRST robotics has changed the logo a little bit the gradient colors were also on NASA television, It wasn't just projectors at the kickoff doing that. The logo has always been changing and looking better. Haven't your teams been trying to find ways to make YOUR team logo looks better?

Re: New FIRST Logo
I think at most, it was a stylistic thing. The main reason for my guess is because gradiants don't print well. The majority of promotional items - t-shirts, business cards, coffee mugs, etc. - they have writing on them through a process called silk screening. Essentially it means they develop a template and burn ink onto the object from that template. Take a look at some of your t-shirts - if they aren't the cheap iron-on type, you'll see that all logos are only a few colors - two, three, or four. The general rule of thumb is that corporate logos should be able to be recognized in as few colors as possible. It's near impossible to have an even gradient using silk screening. That and low-color logos just look better.

Re: New FIRST Logo
i saw the gradient too... didnt like it too much either :( . too much conformity. it was nice and simple, clean the other way. i hope it was just a flaw but i saw the gradient too i hope they go back to normal

Re: New FIRST Logo
Yes, I saw the gradients on the logo. However, in the "Using the FIRST logo of" of the communications section of the manual, it still refers to the red, blue, and white logo.

Re: New FIRST Logo
Personally, I thought that the gradients added a bit of depth to the image: despite the fact that you're looking at 3D shapes, it felt flat to me before. I liked the logo with gradients.

Re: New FIRST Logo
As for the new(?) logo, this has been around for a bit of years now for Kickoff's.
It may just be a flaw in the feed, but as a teammate(?) of mine called it, "Oh, I see they brought back the "tropical FIRST" logo again. So, I guess it's been around before.. |
Re: New FIRST Logo
maybe they can make a sucky new logo, but we'll all use the old one, because it was "old skool"...

Re: New FIRST Logo
Does anyone have a high-res copy of the FIRST logo? if you do, could you email it to me? timhawes@girderboot.com
