Hall of Fame
What do you all think of the new Hall of Fame? I think it's a great way to commemorate the vet teams for their hard work in the past, and new teams for their hard work yet to come.

I agree... I think that it is a step in the right direction for FIRST... look at what has happened in FIRST through all these years... The hall of fame is a great way to honor the teams that have done so much for the history of FIRST. -Greg The Great |
Re: Hall of Fame
i dont understand what the whole hall of fame thing is can someone kinda explain

Re: Hall of Fame
Ryan,
What I know for sure about the hall of fame is that all of the past Chairman's award winners will be inducted, and then teams have to apply to get in from there. |

I think the FIRST will get the details for the Hall Of Fame done after build is running smoothly. -Greg The Great |
Re: Hall of Fame
I think the Hall a Fame is an awsome idea, but im not completely sure the requirements of it are does ne1 know?!

Re: Hall of Fame
from what i've heard it sounds like to be inducted into the Hall of Fame you have to be a Chairman's Award winner, since we all already know who these winners are, what really is the point of having them mentioned another time? don't get me wrong, the Chairman's Award winners work very hard and i'm not trying to lessen their accomplishments, but haven't we already kind of made them "hall of fame-rs" by giving them the recognition of receiving the Chairman's Award?

Having two different HoFs - Competition and Chairman's - would be great. |

Re: Hall of Fame
I was under the impression that the robots in FIRST Place were Hall of Famers of some sort. Is that being changed?

The robots in First Place haven't changed in years. I doubt they will be changed now- there really isn't any hall of fame for competition winners. From what I have seen in the end they are played down quite a bit in favor of the Chairmans. An HoF for the chairmans winners would be nice- more so than just a plaque on a pillar in the conference area. I'd love to discover the link they all have in common. It would also be nice to have each Chairmans team participate in a congress of sort where they would represent the teams in a sort of congress to develop a direction for FIRST's future and fend off some of the "changes" that have been occasionally passed down. Perhaps that would be a greater function for the "ideal" FIRST teams. WC |

If you want the bet.... my doughnuts are down! NOTE: In NO way am I underminding the winners of the chairmans award.... I personally believe that the Chairmans in well harder to win then a regional or national event... I am just mearly stating that national champions are often more rememberd then chairmans award winners. I think that the HoF for Chairmans is a step in the right direction for securing GP through-out the FIRST communuity, and I am in FULL support of the Chairmans HoF. -Greg The Great P.S. My team-mates say I have a gambling problem.... what do you think :yikes: |
Re: Hall of Fame
Last years National Chairmans Award winner was Cybertronics - I can't remember who won the championship other than I think they came of of Archemedes division (Wild stang, I think I love you)
There will be more info soon on the Hall of Fame and a couple of things that those already inducted are suppose to do to show their continued committment to the future of FIRST - since they can no longer compete for the chairmans award after they win it. |

I think that the hall of fame is a great idea, but I also think that most experienced FIRSTers really do appreciate gracious professionalism and the values FIRST advocates. So much so, in fact that its a little scary, almost like a cult of personality. Of course its a very benign cult, with a noble purpose, and Dean is a LOT more genuine and decent than Kim Jong Il (sp?) or any other cult-leader in the history of the universe... I know Dean likes to tell everyone to appreciate their mentors and sponsors and all that, and I'm glad that he does, but I think it already happens. |

Interesting- you apparently confirm the posts above- the CyberSonics are a great team from Kintnersville, Pa.- back in the sticks of Bucks County. In the midst of the farms the always come up with a great machine and an enthusiastic team with a great attitude. We consider them good friends. I think a part of the "we remembr the winners" posts are explained by the fact that the teams we seem to be mentioning are from the CD viewing area- a source of many champions. But lately the Chairmans has been a NJ regional thing....something we are hoping to continue ; ) WC  |

Re: Hall of Fame
Wayne, thanks for the kind words as always.
Hall of Fame recognition/application information is currently being finalized by a committee made up of FIRST staff and Hall of Fame member reps. This work is an extention of the initial workshop discussions that took place in Manchester this past summer during the Chairman's/Hall of Fame celebration(there are threads on these work sessions). My understanding is that FIRST is looking for a way to encourage Hall of Fame Chairman's teams to continue their growth and outreach, recognize those teams for continued contributions, and further highlight the Chairman's Award at events so more and more teams are inspired to submit CA entries. |
