Howmany TechnoKats got to ride a segway???

I was just wondering how many TechnoKats got to ride the segway and what were their thoughts about it.

Explain...

khssoccer16 06-02-2002 20:15

About an hour ago we had the opportunity to ride a Segway around the TechnoKat shop. They had one in town for Delphi and they brought it by and they let the student that were there ride it. It was really cool. Well have picture pretty soon of part of our team with last years robot and Segway.

Clark Gilbert 06-02-2002 20:16

Sleep?

That was the most AWESOME thing i have ever done!!!!!!! :)

Today the TechnoKats were given the opportunity to take Segway for a drive....All this was possible due to Bill Gray (head Delphi guy for TechnoKats) and the "Segway Man" (forgot his name..opps), but i guess Segway was at Delphi today doing a demo or showing off how Delphi's products are being used in it.

I'll let Baker explain more......

AHH!!! I CAN'T SIT STILL!!! THAT WAS AWESOME!!!!!!:D

Joe Matt 06-02-2002 20:19

Hope they'll have one at VCU or Nat's to try.
%%%%... why couldn't I live in Indiana?

Clark Gilbert 06-02-2002 20:59

What a ride!

Our division of Delphi had it's quarterly "state of the business" meeting today, headed by our division president. He rode in on a Segway and gave us some details on what we are producing for each model (two circuit boards and the operator interface).

So, at the end of the meeting, a few engineers were able to drive it around... of course, it was very cool. The Segway in Kokomo was simply on demonstration from their company for 2 days, their marketing head was here with this model to show it to the Delphi employees in Kokomo.

The TechnoKats executive sponsor at Delphi (Bill Gray) is also the program manager for the Segway business. Bill thought it would be really neat for the TechnoKats to see it, and he rode it into our shop at about 6:30 tonight... we didn't know he was coming over with it, so we were very suprised.

Anyway, it's a blast to ride, that's for sure. As for whether or not it's gonna find a market, I think that time will tell. I sure hope so, since Delphi has alot of electronics in it.

it was great!!!

Id like to thank Bill Gray and the segway guy for taking some time to come out and give us the chance to ride Segway. I doubt ill ever forget it.

On the subject of "IT"

IT, aka Segway is in this months issue of Motor Trend, I'll try to scan it and upload it on the Delphi web gallery. It's just a little blurb, maybe less than a page long with a picture.

Kit Gerhart 06-02-2002 23:50

It's cool

I rode it, and it is very impressive technology. The only "control" used for actual operation is the steering which is done by twisting the left hand grip. To go forward or back up, you just lean in the direction you want to go, or away from the direction you want to quit going. To steer, you twist the left grip, counterclockwise to turn left, and clockwise to turn right. It is very intuitive and easy to get used to. Also, the machine is very quiet, unlike some of our robots.

While time will tell how successful Segway will be commercially, the technology is impressive in every way.

How come Andy is the only one wearing a helmet?

Andy was at a meeting at work when he rode the machine and when his picture was taken. The rest of us were at the TechnoKats shop.

The Segway staff must have trusted our team not to crash, at least more than they trusted the general populace of Delphi employees that Andy was with when he took his test ride.

Andy, is this explanation correct?

aka Scott White 07-02-2002 13:25

Our sponsors (Judy and Josh Weston) got to ride a segway.

Wayne Doenges 07-02-2002 14:25

I'm jealous too and I LIVE in Indiana :(
Oh Well, when I win the lottery I will buy a couple :D

Wayne Doenges

Congrats TechnoKats

Yeah, everyone at Delphi had to wear a helmet if they rode the Segway around alot of other people. I'm not sure what the reason is.

As for me, after too many years of playing football, many people have wondered if I needed to wear a helmet more often.

What's the line from the movie "Parenthood"? Something like "oh, our son just likes to bang his head against the wall" (response) "you must be so proud!".

Anyway... back to work.

Molly Menges 09-02-2002 18:29

you guys think you are jealous?? ha!! not only do i live in indiana, but i'm even a technokat...i almost cried when i found out. i had the flu and could barely get out of bed...what a time to be sick, huh? :(

David Kelly 09-02-2002 20:11

that is terrible timing molly... i hope the rest of the team isn't shoving it in your face

i don't understand why anyone would want to live here. indiana is pretty boring, except for the Indianapolis Motor speedway

Greg McCoy 10-02-2002 18:19

I left early and missed it too.

hey, i'm a big fan of the IRL too. but NASCAR is the best

Joe Matt 11-02-2002 09:08

IRL is tons better than NASCAR.
But the Segway beets them all!!

Wayne Doenges 11-02-2002 09:34

I'll take the U.S Nationals drag race over BOTH IRL and NASCAR any day. With drag racing everything happens in front of you. Unlike IRL and NASCAR where you have to wait 30+ seconds to see the cars again. Also in drag racing, if you lose, you go home :(
