RAGE will be staying at the Embassy Suites (we are SO lucky)
The CNN center isn't that bad.....almost the entire bottom floor is food vendors, GOOD food vendors, and its RIGHT next to the Dome (i was in atlanta @ the GWCC & dome for a national youth gathering) so feel free to be the last people awake in the morning cuz its 2 minute walk!!

I was just wondering what seems to be the best option in terms of price and distance to the staduim from those living in Atlanta? I, and my team if we go, don't want to rely on bus like we did in Houston.

All the hotels on the THS site are within walking distance of the stadium. The website also gives the distance in blocks if you're interested. While their prices might seem a little high, keep in mind that they include vouchers for food(~$60 worth) and tickets to the team party(costs $90 outside of the package).

I know Team 870 (RICE) is staying at the Omni. Myself however, since I'm a mentor this year and am currently driving down from New York (bringing stuff to help save weight on shipping, tools and such), I think I'm treating myself and getting a room at the Sheraton in Atlanta :cool:

If I am correct, they have a hotel-wide free wifi network. Maybe one of the team's tech people will start a FIRST IRC network ;-)

Well, Team 811, Ratheon, BAE Systems / Bishop Guertin High School of Nashua, NH just qualified for nationals by winning the Regional Chairmans Award at the Granite State Regional in Manchester, NH.

We had saved the money for nationals, but until that moment (last weekend) we didn't have a way to quality.

Well, we are scrambling our brains out trying to make arrangements, and nothng is set just yet. We were looking at coming down by plane to a First organized hotel/motel, and if we do this, we are looking at the Super-8. (the only place with 17 quad rooms availible right now)

The big problem is that we need to PAY for it by Monday.....which is REAL TIGHT since we have not gotten deposits or parental signatures yet. (to know EXACTLY who can and is going)

Our second plan is to go down by bus, and to stay in a non-First hotel....but it turns out the Bus isn't as inexpensive as it first seemed.....so I think we might be leaning back to the first option listed above.

It is al very fast paced and exciting.....but I'm sure we will be able to see everyone there!

Anyone else staying at the Super-8? (is that the place that leaves the light on for you, or is that two numbers lower?)

Quentin-There are many hotels with 17+ rooms left. The list at http://www.thsweb.com/TournReports/995520FR.pdf shows the Hyatt, Marriott Marquis, Hilton, Sheraton, and Marriott Fairfield with tons of rooms.
Actually, the Super-8 only has 7 rooms left!

<b>Well, for Chief Delphi, since we are going to San Jose, Ca for regionals... we are traveling by bus to Atlanta, GA. It's fine with us because it's about an 18 hour drive. Plus the team members get to sleep on the way and arrive there a day early. But overall, the team will bond on the way there...
Well, really about your situation, you guys should get things done quickly because most likely all the hotels are going to be booked up. Like I said, everything is almost booked all up. But since you guys are coming all the way from NH..I suggest going by plane if expenses are't that high. Anyway, I hope I see you guys there at Nationals! Good luck...</b>

Elgin, my good man, you may be able to tell time, but you are woefully out of date with regard to the available facilities at the Omni Hotel at CNN Center! The lap pool you refer to is inside the Turner Athletic Center near the hotel, it can only be used by people 21 years of age or older, and it costs $10 per person per day to use.

HOWEVER, the new tower at the Omni includes a HEATED OUTDOOR POOL available to all registered guests of the Omni Free of Charge. The pool is now open, and will continue to be open every day through our stay in Atlanta.

BTW, The Miracle Workerz (Team 365) will have 63 people at the Omni -- 30 studentz, 15 mentorz, and 18 other adultz. Also, the LuNaTeChS, Team 316, also are staying at the Omni, and will have between 15 and 20 people total.

I don't know where your coach got his information, but the official booking agent for the FIRST Championship Event is THS, and they have TONS of Quad rooms (Double/Double) still available -- 216 at the Hyatt Regency, 84 at the Marriott Marquis, 358 at the Sheraton, 527 at the Hilton, 7 at the Super 8, 15 at the Courtyard, and 110 at the Fairfield.

Interesting... Well in any case I hope you don't get accused of stealing 60 bathrobes less than 10 minutes after you check out of your rooms!
And I hope you don't expect to get to your rooms within the first few HOURS of you getting to the hotel. And I hope you don't run into the situation where the hotel leaves the alcohol in the room with the students, and you are forced to remind the hotel staff to do their jobs and remove it!!!
And lastly, I hope you are right about the pool situation.... Have fun!! :rolleyes:

Hmm...I'm thinking big party. 15 Teams+One Hotel=Tons o' Fun. If we approximated 15 students per team well, thats a lot of kids to start some football, ultimate frisby, and other entertaining activities with. This should be some fun times guys.

I was in Atlanta for a youth gathering this past summer. The gathering hosted 45,000 people (mostly high school age youth) over two weeks (22-23,000 oer week). I learned that their MARTA system (metro, subway, underground train, whatever you want to call it) is pretty good and has two stops at the dome and you can get pretty close to anywhere in the city via this system.

I spent most of my time at that hotel because we made some new friends who were staying there (it is a very sweet hotel...it has the largest atrium in the world). However, we weren't staying there. My youth group stayed about 5 MARTA stops north of the Marriott Marquis (I have no clue how far it was without relating it to the marta, cause that is how we got there) at the Hampton Inn. I believe my room had one of the most beautiful views of the city, only bested by another room our group had. I will try to upload th pics of the views when I get a chance.

I went this summer too!! My hotel was 5 stops above the big station, the Marriot Suites ( i think that's what they're called) but they're kind of far away. The Marquis is NICE, like big fountain in the front-nice! But its a bit of a walk, since FIRST isn't providing tranportation (the gathering gave us MARTA tickets for the week) It will be maybe a 10 minute walk, max, unless you walk really slow. Atlanta is gonna be AWESOME!

I have talked to a somewhat reliable source and found out that we might possibly be tentativly scheduled to stay at the Sheraton while down in Georgia... of course the source also claims to be "human" but testing remains inconclsuive

well... we can hook up w/ mine (if i can get to your hotel) and another friend of mine also has GCN... we can EASILY!!! get a 16 player race going =D (2 on each cart) i have a 4 way switch... all you need is a RF adapater for the GCN... (you can use one from the N64 or NES or SNES if you still have them (they use the same port)) also SSMB i think is also LAN enabled or am i wrong??? and what about Fzero???

Yes, I believe that the Aztechs are staying at the Embassy Suites.

I have an Xbox, Halo, and two controlers (I might try to see if any of my friends want to loan me a controller) I think I'll probably bring it. I hope the TVs allow consoles to be hooked up to them, though. I've seen a couple hotels that have a Nintendo 64 hooked up already that you've gotta pay to play, and no exposed ports.

It'd be cool if there were a few Xbox rooms close to each other so we could hook up a big multiplayer game. (Although I don't have any network equipment myself)

well, i think one night we should find a team's halway (with someone thats acutally playing of course) and just set up a huge lan inbetween the 4 adjoining rooms w/ a simple switch and the 4 lan cables going into each room... not hard at all =D... we could easily have like, 10 GCN's and alsmot 30 controllers (seems ubserd hahaha) but the 16 people races would be crazy to have throughout 4 rooms... cant wait... we should do a chat with who can bring what and who would love to "offer" their space in a centerized hotel =D

We're at the embassy. I've got a network switch (five port), and probably at least one twenty five foot cable (don't know how long I would need), a controller, I could also check on my floor to see about more network cable and possibly a couple controllers. I doubt I could get a x-box or Halo off of them but who know.

If you want me to bring at least the switch just tell me.

Oh boy, I heard about a Double Dash LAN Party at the Omni, count me in! Problem is somebody needs to bring a network hub with network cables. I can bring my GameCube (with DD of course), and two working controllers (I have four, but two of them have busted up joysticks). I need to remind myself to purchase a broadband adapter before Team PINK leaves to Nationals.

As far as I know, F-Zero GX and Super Smash Brothers Melee do not have LAN capabilities. It is a shame F-Zero is not LAN compatible since a Grand Prix Race has thirty racers. That would have been a noble effort if we could be able to do that.

There will be about fifty students from Team #233 heading out to Atlanta. See you guys there!

Ignoring that, what seems to be the best hotel to stay in there?

P.S. Team 25, 1089 and 1403 successfully executed a 4 xbox LAN at the Chesapeake Regional and we'd certainly be glad to do it again in Atlanta. =D Quite amusing to have 150 ft of CAT5 running the length of a hotel hallway.
