Difference Between Motors

During todays meeting, we were talking about which motors to use for what in our design. However, we soon came to the conclusion that we didnt know the differences between all of the motors and which is better used for what.

So i was wondering if someone could list all of the motors and the pros and cons of each, what each is best used for, and what each is not recommended to be used for. I know that this is asking a lot because there are several different types of motors that come in the kits, but it would be greatly appreciated and not one person has to do all of them.

thank you so much

the differences in the motors is that some are good drive motors (say the Fischer Price, Mubashi's, and the Bosch Drill Motors) and some are better at "extra tasks" (globes, windows and servos etc.) :]

If you want to learn about motors you can check out the lecture notes I have in the white paper section.

Here is a link to a post by Andy Baker about different kind of motor usage:

Also, you can look at the motor specs here: www.team696.org/motorspecs.html

Now, there are some differences (most largely in the drill) since these specs are from 2002.

These are the motors I recommend for drive train (not all of them at the same time):

1. CIM Motor
2. Drill Motor
3. Fisher-Price Motor

Moving arms, etc (winches too):

1. Van door motor
2. Window motor

Auxiliary tasks:

1. globe
2. seat

Steering for swerve drive

1. Van door (low backlash)
2. globe

This is quick and dirty, but look at all the available white papers for much more detail.
