Does anyone know how to make an extendable arm for hanging from a bar? Please, Please answer.

Take a look around at other threads and you should find some answers. (use the search function) You can have something spring loaded and release it, you can use pneumatics, motors, telescopes, etc. It might be better for you to contact someone directly if you don't get the help you need from looking around - that way you can have a conversation and get a better idea. You can AIM me at BostonRobot. Best of luck.

if you want to reach the bar, you dont have to extend too far. Your bot frame can be 5 feet high, so with only one joint (elbow) and an arm that goes down to the opposite corner of the frame (bottom) you should be able to reach up 10 feet easily.

in the drawing, the frame is 5feet high, the bot is 3 feet long, so if the arm goes all the way to the floor it can be

squareroot (5^2 + 3^2) = 5.8 feet

when raised up on the 5 foot frame, thats 10.8 feet

extended enough?

you need to cut your 60" leg down to around 48-50" or so when you measure to find the "hypotenuse", since the bot is around 1' off the floor, but jt will still be plenty long enough.

theres no reason the arm cant go almost all the way to the floor - have a spot notched out for it, or have your frame a little shorter than 3 feet long, then it can hang over the end

remember at T=1 you can lift the arm up to get it off the floor - the bot only has to fit inside a 2.5 x 3 x 5 foot cube at the beginning.

I went back and cleaned up the sketch in the post above to show the arm being almost on the floor when fully retracted.

here is another idea... why not having a telescope arm which has a hook goes up to that bar (10 ft.) and then grabs it... then use pneumatics to pick yourself off the ground. have notches to lock down your mechanism in that certain position... pick the pneumatics back up... you will be off the ground and hanging in the bar. certain way you would atleast be off the ground about an inch or 2. the way i explained it i think i confused everybody. if anybody have any question you can always send me a pm or im me.... thanks
