Moving Mobile Goals

Hey everyone. I was wondering if there is a way to actually grab onto the goal. Originally it appeared that the only way would be to try to grab the edge of goal, but looking at the animation recently released by FIRST, there seems to be a lip that a robot could grab onto easily with a pneumatic pump. I've looked at the drawings, and can't seem to find it. Can anyone tell me if this actually exists, and its thickness and depth if it does? Thank you very much.

I believe that there is an extruded edge around the top. This way you will be able to either grip or hook the edge from the top only. My team is perparing to hook the top in order to drag it to our destination. ;)

From what I saw at kickoff both in the chiars during the uplink and the brainstorming sessions FIRST ha dmade it clear that you may only grab the edge of the goal. You may not grab the PVC pipes / you may not raise the goal.

According the FIELD diagrams here is what I dug up

2004 FIRST Elements Moveable Goal

Item # 6 Qty 6 Description 1x1x1/8" Steel Angle Length 24" Remarks None

Steel Edging is cut to 2' pieces

Rule 24: Robots can only grab a mobile goal by the top metal edge of the goal platform perimeter. No part of a robot can extend under the base of the mobile goals. Robots may never grab or attach to the poles. If a robot grabs any other part of the mobile goals or extends under the base of the mobile goal, the referee will give one warning. If they referee decides that the team is dis reguarding that warning, the teams robot will be disabled and the team will be disqualified

Per an answer on FIRST Q&A, there is a lip on the goals that is about 1 inch high and 1/2 inch thick. It is made up of the diamond plate on the front backed up by a 1 inch angle.

I've already designed a mechanism to use the rotational actuator to grab a goal by the lip, but I was wondering what anybody thought about the legality of hugging the goal about the dimond plate... I'm not grabbing pvc, not lifting it up, just rapping arms around it to get a better grip.

I just wanted to add to your message. You MAY raise the goal as long as you do it by contact with the metal edge. Just not from anywhere else.
thanks

This is not where you want to ask that question. You're going to get 20 replies from people making wild guesses that count for nothing out on the field. I would ask this on the FIRST Q&A forums.

I'm still pretty sure you're not allow to raise or tip the goal even if it is by contact with only the diamond plating. You can attach to the edge on the diamond plating, you can push on the diamond plating, you can wrap around the diamond plating, you CAN'T lift the goal, you CAN'T tip the goal on one end, and you CAN'T contact the PVC intentionally. That was my interpretation, If I'm wrong tell me.

<G24> ROBOTS can only grab a Mobile Goal by the top metal edge of the goal platform perimeter. No part of a

If a ROBOT grabs any other part of the Mobile Goal or extends under the base of the Mobile Goal, the
referee will give one warning. If the referee decides that the team is disregarding that warning, the team’s
ROBOT will be disabled and the team will be disqualified.

<G25> If ROBOTS intentionally tip over any Mobile Goal or damage the poles of a Mobile or Stationary Goal,
that team’s ROBOT will be disabled and the team may be disqualified.

Like I said, Q&A

Well, I think that we can safely say that 'hugging' goal around the diamond plate area is not allowed.
