mating motors
would any of you feel different mating the drill motor and the FP motor running through the drill motor gear box with the new FP motors and their increased power?

nope we're doing it
check it out: |
You know, seeing all thsee really cool drive trains makes me wish our robot could have more than one drive system! Oh well, that just means we need to build more robots! ;)

Thanks goodness for safety factors...
I am really surprised at how well the drill transmissions must tolerate overloading conditions.
The gearbox that you see above puts something like 3-5 times the input torque into the transmissions than the drill motor hooked directly. It is very surprising that these drills are designed with that much safety margin. As long as the safety factor stays above 1 that is all you need. Joe J. |

I guess the question is......is this the "before" or "after" power-on picture? :D -Quentin |

In a preliminary drive test, we are making a bundle of torque in low range, and are almost uncontrollable in high. I agree that these transmissions are suprisingly tough. But driving screws into 25 year old pine puts a little stress on the trans too!:D |
