Ordering the TSOP34840 Infrared Receivers

Hi everybody,

I'm trying to figure out how to order more of the sensors provided in the kit of parts--I couldn't find them at DigiKey, Mouser, RadioShack, or FutureActive. The supplier listed in the kit of parts is NewarkInOne, but they have a minimum order limit of 2,160 sensors.

I also tried searching google for the part number, but the only results were related to the FRC.

Has anybody else found a place to order the sensors from?

Thanks

I just went to the Newark site and found single unit quantities for $0.78 each. You may have to contend with a minimum order but I didn't see any minimum quantity.

This is the part I found, here. Click on buy and it should show you a cart with 2160 items in it. I also tried calling them to order, but they told me that the minimum order still applied.

It doesn't seem to matter since they have 0 in stock and there's a 47 day lead time required.
We bought a dozen of the TSOP4840's from Newark rather than these.

I think I see the problem...
When I first downloaded the pdf the part number was TSOP4840 and that is the part I looked up at Newark. The TSOP34840 is the 3.3 volt power supply version. I believe the kit list may have a typo and it should really be the 4840 which is a 5 volt device, hence the ease in getting it from Newark (lead time on the 34840 was 47 days BTW) I will check into this and hopefully Kevin Watson will see the post and let all of know for sure.

Sorry, just got back from a quick trip to the other coast.

Go ahead and get the TSOP4840 device. All of the development was done with this device and I know it works. Actually, I suspect that they're the same device. When they go to screening, the parts that pass at 3.3 volts probably just get dumped in the TSOP34840 bin.
