What do you all think of this Goal Grabber? We will have two on the robot.
They can extend 12" past the frame of the robot.

I would be worried about the weight and also how much air they use up every time you extend them. But they look well-built.

It's all about the weight and air left...

Our team has an unofficial design metric - the students and engineers like to think of the drivers as lab animals that we're going to have to train. So we rate a design on how many "pellets" it takes.

So if B.F. Skinner needs his monkey to both jump and screech at the same time, that requires that he train the monkey with two monkey pellets. Similarly, if a design requires that a driver do two things at once (e.g. go forward and steer, or time something exactly right while driving), that's considered a "two pellet task", and is to be avoided, simply because there are twice as many things that a driver can screw up on. Just from the picture, is seems like you might have a two pellet gripper there. :)

So... make sure you have a good driver ;)

BTW - it does look like a solid gripper - once you have ahold of that goal, ain't nobody taking it from you.

oooh!! they're pretty!!
one thing tho, how much do they weigh?

Wetzel 11-02-2002 01:45

De weight boss de weight!

And what happened to i before e?

Wayne Doenges 11-02-2002 06:47

Each goal grabber weighs 14 lbs. This is after going on a very strict diet to lose 9 lbs.
They will extend, grab goal and draw them back to robot.
