NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
Hello there,
The teams #1156 and #1382 from Brazil are arriving in NJ on 3/3 and we would be very pleased if we could visit any school of FIRST team in NJ. The two teams together have approximately 40 students  If anyone could receive us in monday (03/08/2004) after NJ regional we would be grateful into visiting your school. Attenciously Chuck |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
We would like to know too with you could helps us by saying some places that we could visit, like tourist places or anything like it or even other places that are not tourist places, but that are nice to go and visit. :)
Thanks for your help, Pâmella |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
I am unsure how far you would want to be traveling, however I just wanted to throw out a couple of travel ideas to you.
1. Hershey, PA - maker of Hershey Chocolates. A theme park, chocolate factory, and town (w/shopping) all evolving around the theme of their chocolates. check outwww.hersheys.com for more info. 2. Lancaster, PA- home of the Amish. Yes, there is a lot more, but the main attraction is the amish and their paradise. I will let you find out more by following the link if you are interested Lancaster County Information I am sure others can think of something better just thought I'd get some ideas thrown out. |

Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?

Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
The most obvious answer is that trenton is about an hour away from New York City
if you only have monday, it would be difficult to squeeze in a bus trip there and back in one day, but I suppose it could be done. (BTW - Hershey park is an amusment park, with rollercoasters and rides and stuff - Im 99.9999999999% certain they are not open in march :c) |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
I think we are going to New York, but what can we the days that we are going to stay in Trenton (in case we stay to have time to visit places)? thanks for the help anyway...

Actually... Different parts of Hershey are open year around - expecially downtown Hershey, Chocolate World, and portions of the park will occassionally open - in addition to special events such as Christmas in Hershey and the Botanical Gardens (yes, I know they will not be at this time). I was just trying to get some ideas out, and thought it might spark some ideas in others. There would be plenty for all to see and do in New York, and I hope you have a great time in the US. |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
Thanks for all the suggestions and continue giving any idea or offer do u guys have... :yikes:

LOTS OF THINGS TO SEE. And don't forget to try a Philly Cheese Steak!!!!!! You won't be disappointed. (Check with Ana Martinez) |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
There is a good bit of American History in Philly.
Maybe next year we could entice you to the Annapolis regional, which is only an hour or so away from Washington DC, which has alot of FREE museums, like The Air and Space Museum, which is about the coolest museum I've ever been too. Along with all the rest that DC has to offer. Unfortunatly, I don't have much to say about things to do in the Garden State. Wetzel |

Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
Dear Brazilian teams,
Sorry for the late response but I wanted to clear things with my boss before we committed. Team 25, Raider Robotix, formally invites your teams to visit our school and be our guests on Monday afternoon after the NJ Regional. We will need to plan out the logistics of doing this but we certainly would like to have you over to our school and have you see what high school in our part of the world is all about. I figure we can have a cultural exchange get together of some sort followed by a play time with our 4 archived robots and then kick back with some pizzas. Maybe we can also invite a few friends from other teams over in the after school time to get involved. We are about 1/2 hr drive north from Trenton. PM me if this interests you and we can set it up. Wayne Cokeley- head coach  |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
Thanks Wayne,
It will be very nice to visit the best FIRST team ever! I´ll make sure I take your team´s t-shirt I have on my closet, just waiting to wear it again. We´ll have our own transportation (vans), and this year we have a lot fewer chances to get lost ( :D ) because we have one person who knows New Jersey better (an enginner from team 1382, Mr. Amarildo). Your plan is great, pizza + robots makes the perfect combination! Plus, american pizza is not compared to ours (except my pizza, I learned to cook with my grandmother (italian) :] ) We´re a group of 36 (max), maybe less. We´re scheduling all things up this week, and soon we´ll PM you, maybe we can schedule a voice chat... Other visitations will be confirmed and re-scheduled due to some modifications in our dates, soon we´ll post what are the available days to visit places and etc Anyway, thanks again and soon we´ll be in touch |

Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
Another great visit is the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
|
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
acctually liberty island is open, but the statue itself is closed for repairs and a remodel of some sort.

Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
That would be awesome, we´re definitely looking forward to going there...but we could use a tour guide, wouldn´t wanna get lost on the streets of NYC... : )
Also we could use some tips on stuff like what to wear, where to go, etc... btw is there anyplace near Trenton we can go skiing or sledding??? see you all, good luck to all teams l8r |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
Team 1156 graciously volunteers for tour guiding in NYC. Mr Ivan Jorge Boesing, Brazil´s FIRST Regional Director, also offers all help needed.
Get in touch with us about travel plans and sight seeing.. |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
Wow... Is it my understanding that there is really nothing to to in Trenton or NJ even?? All the suggested ideas for things to do have been places other than NJ... Say it ain't so!!! What can the teams in NJ suggest to do during the after hours in Trenton or the surrounding areas???
Please tell me there is a Lazerquest or some similar place like it in the area!! :) |

Dear Chuck, My deepest apoloies but I a afraid that team 25 CANNOT host the Brazilian teams next monday after the NJregional.. I am gong into my second week of hospitalization and it is likely now that I will miss the regional itself. I cant expect to have my substitutes set up a guest reception. Once again, I am very sorry Wayne C |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
Not too much to do in NJ. There are bowling alleys, laser tag, cinemas, arcades, etc. everywhere. Nothing THAT exciting though. There are lots of smaller historical sites if you are interested. hmm, if this was the summer, you could could go to all the great jersey boardwalks, or if it was january, you could have gone skiing at a lot of places. Unfortunately, you're right in between the two.
We do have the NJ Nets and NJ Devils. Both are very good sports teams, and going to their games is a lot fun. I think you guys are visiting our school one day? See at the NJ regional! |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
or even better, try this one.
lot's of kids + lots of xboxes + halo + no sleep = extreme coolness |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
NYC isn't that much better sure we have a few cool tourist places
1) NYC - Statue of Liberty closed b/c of insufficent security measurements after 9/11 2) NYC - Ellis Island 3) NYC & SI - The Ferry (Runs between Lower Manhattan and Staten Island (nothing to See on Staten Island believe me :) .)) 4) NYC - World Trade Center -- may all rest in peace [A fence surrounding the footprints where WTC once stood :( ] 5) NYC - The Path station under WTC 6) NYC - 42nd. St - Grand Central Station and 42nd. Street - Times Square 7) NYC - 34th. St - The Empire State Building 8) All 5 Boroughs - The MTA / NYCTA Trains. =---= Just about every tourist that comes to NYC rides our trains at least 1 before they leave no matter where the train goes. I know this for a fact since I work for the company my sig says it all lol 9) Bronx - NY Yankees and Queens - NY Mets Stadiums 10) 34th. St - Madison Square Garden (Home of the NY Knicks) 11) Bronx Zoo 12) Bronx Botanical Gardens 13) {Heres one for a kicker} Brooklyn - JFK Airport / Queens - Laguardia Airport I'm not very good at tour guiding but I can tell you bring at least a couple of shorts and tees and long pants and shirts - The weather here this week has been beautiful granting us to wear light clothes for a change however mother nature doesn't like NYC that much and will turn to ice cold w/ little to no pre notices. Get well soon Wayne C. Hope everything turns out for the best. |
Re: NJ Regional - Anyone like to receive us?
Way to step up and be gracious hosts, That's what FIRST is all about.
I have had the pleasure of eating pizza with team 383, and I will say that they don't dissapoint. Those Brazilians are some classy folks. |
