Fisher Price Spares from Where?

We have been told by every Fisher Price distributor we have tried that they no longer sell these motors to individuals because of a liability issue. Does anyone know where to purchase them?

Hi Raul,
After a long trip with venders/distributors/service centers (snick)
I found a very helpful person at fisher price who sent me to the main switch board in N.Y.,
You still have to talk fast and make it clear that you are with a first team
and these are for your team, not some kids toy.
If I can be of help let me know
Good Luck

Geo.

Alright. I just went to the same store I have been going to for three years and got the same run around you are all describing. BTW, it is the same store Dr. Joe went to and I experienced the same thing. This was, by far, the most unhelpful trip I have taken to this store in three years.

I have contacted my source at Johnson Electric to see what he can do to help us. I am trying to buy the motors direct from Johnson electric, but I will probabaly have to buy a lot. The last time I tried this, I had to order 100,000 to get them from Johnson Electric directly; but I did not have this contact at the time. He has not gotten back to me yet, but he will; because he always does.

What I need from all of you is an interest count on how many people actually want spares. I am willing to pursue this, but I need a little backup from you. Just put it in this thread if you are willing to go in on this and I will do the leg work.

I am shooting for buying between 200 and 500, because that is about how many I think I can unload quickly.

Post away!!!

Paul,

Team 177 would like 6 (up to 10 if it helps you get your quota).

Best of luck and thanks...

As Johnny FIRSTer was innocently walking along a suburban Detroit street, he hears a whisper from behind the bushes.

It's Paul in a chicken suit and some sunglasses.

Paul: "Pssst. Hey, kid... come over here. Are you into robots? I've got a deal for ya. A friend of mine has set me up with a great stash of hot Johnson motors."

Johnny FIRSTer: "You mean those really swell Fisher-Price motors?"

Paul: "Yep. Those very motors. You can't get these anywhere else. Fisher-Price service centers won't sell 'em. These are the ones with 15k free speed and 240 Watts of power."

Johnny FIRSTer: "Oh, golly, mister... this is too good to be true! Are they FIRST-legal?"

Paul: "You bet your last Victor 884 they are... perfectly legal."

Johnny FIRSTer: "Wow... I gotta have some. How much do you want for 2?"

Paul: "You look like a nice kid, I'll let you have the first 2 for free."

Johnny FIRSTer leaps toward the tote of Johnson motors and grabs two. He pauses, holding them in his hands like the holy grail, and says, "thanks, mister!"

Paul smiles, nods his head, and as the kid runs off down the street, says "he'll be back."

...

:)

Anyway, put me down for 4, Paul.

FIRST Trying to fix this issue

Paul,

You may want to hold off a couple of days. We contacted FIRST and they are now aware of the situation. They say they intend to set something up so FIRST teams can purchase them.

Andy,
You have been going without sleep again haven't you!?! You know how your creative alter ego comes at times like this!

Re: Fisher Price Spares from Where?

O.K., I have good news and bad news.

The good news is that we can get the motors from Johnson Electric.

The bad news is that they can't process any less than 3600 motors. If each team wants 4, then that means 900 teams would each need to get spares for us to get rid of them all.

Sorry guys,

Look like we'll need FIRST for this one.

Andy,

Looks like the guy with sunglasses and a chicken suit with have to find some other thing to pawn off on teams.

We may have found a source for the FP's. A Mr. Fixit shop that specializes in kiddy cars & such in Armada, MI bugged FP about it and got the real part number. Is ordering some for us. Will find out if he can do the same for others.

Buy two F/P motors for $230, and get a Jeep free!!!

Since there is some kind of recall/liability issue with Fisher Price motors, I was curious about whether the Power Wheels cars are still being sold. I checked out the local Toys R Us and they have various Power Wheels vehicles, including the Wranglers that our motors are used in. Does anyone know why parts are "off the market" while the cars are still being sold? Maybe someone had an electrical fire as the result of a bad "do it yourself" repair on one of the cars?

New info on FIRST Q and A

Q: Where can we buy spare Fisher Price motors that are the same as those from this year's kit?

A: Fisher-Price does not typically sell parts to the general public but the F-P service centers have been told they can sell to people if they follow the instructions we have provided to them. Not all service centers will remember this in which case the caller should tell the Service Center to call the "Service Center Support Group" at Fisher Price and they will be reminded and authorized to sell the part. The gearbox part number is 00968-2912 and is used on the 75840 Wrangler Restage, the B7659 Blue Jeep and the C2390 Red Jeep. 1. It is a 19 tooth Number 7 Gearbox with a reduction of 124 to 1. 2. It is a 12 volt motor with a no load speed of 15683 rpm at 1.19 Amps. 3. The stall torque is 447.74 mNm 4. The stall current is 70.30 Amp.

Re: Fisher Price Spares from Where?

Anybody got a good phone number to service center who would be aware of the FIRST situation and be friendly to us? Not that we want to overload them, but if we could direct our requests they could probably streamline the requests.

Andy
