I think thelaststride meant the best 'device'
Agreed.. the terminology isn't all that good
I think he/she is referring to the best mechanism

Oh well, I'd certainly want a wider front to push the balls into the chute
So, a plow of some kind, or arms that extend

Well, it has its own pros and cons
It would mean less maneuverability and problems climbing the stair

Well, so you might want something retractable

Just some thoughts....

Wormholes and rifts in space-time are always popular choices.

during the off season we took the 2x4 alum beams and the FIRST gear boxes from last year, and build a pratice/default base frame for driver pratice and testing control stuff - its a 2 wheel drive w/1 castor simple bot, we named it Frank after our sponsor night factory supervisor

we tried pushing balls around with Frank last week wednesday, with bars on the front, and a U-shaped collector, that let the balls roll on the floor

and we quickly learned the balls jam and wedge very easilly if you simply try to push them around.

we came to the conclusion that to have any control over the balls you will have to capture them inside your machine - that means a floor or storage area, and some way to push the balls into that space, and a way to get them back out - if you simply try to drive into the balls the will either wedge or bounce away.

Wings that extend out of the sides of your robot to give you 7 1/2 feet of pushing space.

Butrandomly shifting between timelines and universes is part of the fun!

Your robot could herd the balls BEFORE your match. Or simply go back in time to be in multiple places at once.

You'd definitely make quarter-finals.

In a response that may be of some use to you "thelastride" Look at old bots from past seasons in galleries such as firstrobotics.net or here on chief delphi at ball pickeruppers from the past, look at 2000 and 2002 specifically as there were more ball pickers then, there were a few from 2001 as well. Thats if you want to pick up balls

Maybe you could get lost in time and create your own deminsion and win every game in your imaginary world? After all, imaginary worlds ARE the best places to be. I should know. :yikes:

Personally i like the idea of the space/time theory. But i also wouldn't mind getting lost in my imaginary world. But really i am just hoping that you haven't figured out the whole space/time "thing."
