I'm having a tough time of where that cutting blade fits into your gearbox :D Anyway, I think that's the most gears I've ever seen for one purpose. We will be having 8 gears (+Bosch trannies) total. I bet there's more gears than that inside a lathe, but I've never seen them, and it is like 20 speeds you know.

Seems like there are alot of 8 sets and 4 sets, perhaps individual wheel gearboxes + spares. As for the cutting wheel...It's always eaiser to pick up a deflated ball :D

Does anyone else just find this outright scary?

Strangely I count 60 gears. And that is not counting the "dual gears" (two different sizes in one) separately. And add to that 9 sprockets.

Re: pic: Team 60 Drive Train Parts

I'm pretty sure that there are not 60 gears, however that would be a pretty cool coincidence. I would be willing to bet that it will be a 4 motor drive just like the robot 2 years ago, and if you look there are about 8 of everything, so 2 for each motor. Just a guess and I have no idea what my former teammates are up to this year cause I have kinda fallen outta the loop. But if any of my old teammates read this (and still know who I am!!) drop me a line and let me know whats up in Arizona. sftx2@mizzou.edu Looks impresive everyone, can't wait to see the finished version!

Now I heard a rumor that you guys and 254 were working on this gearbox together? Is that true? Very cool guys! :yikes:

Isn't it going to be hard to keep the weight down with all that stuff?

Not if it's not all on one robot.

I don't think those are cutting wheels, rather parts to a racheting system perhaps.

Re: pic: Team 60 Drive Train Parts

I'll bet you they are making two identical drive systems - one for the competition bot and one for a practice bots. That's why there are so many duplicates.

Judging from the Bionic Poofs (Cheesy Bulldogs?) showing at Cal Games, last September, I don't find it hard to believe that team 60 and 254 are working together, this season. Whatever they'd come up with, I'm sure it'd be awesome.

Well I didn't go to the mechanical workshop at the AZ Kickoff like I wanted to, but they apparently announced their cooperation with 254 during it. If I heard correctly, 60 is making parts a, b and c while 254 is making parts d, e and f... and then they swap. Pretty cool stuff, it could explain why there are so many of each part :yikes:

I think this is great.
I've also heard this rumor, and I can't wait to see how it works out.

This could be the future of FIRST.

The poof's and kingman designed a drive train during summer together, and they were able to enter that robot into Cal Games at September after that summer. As I remembered it the robot was finished the week before. Definitely a very cool thing to happen. It shows that teams can work together to compliment each other and make each of their robotics program better. Especially with a game of alliances, partnership is definitely a good way to go.

You know you can't build a robot that does everything, unless you build CD's 2000 bot or Beatty's 2001 bot. And even with those robots you need a good partner.

That is a lot of gears. I want to see the final product. Please post pictures of it when possible.

There are indeed 60 gears there. But there are at least 11 sprockets. Why an odd number? Can we not see one of them?
