I need an internship!
I never thought I'd be doing this, but.....
I'm looking for a summer internship. Preferably anywhere in the business sector besides accounting, paid or unpaid, that is commutable from either Boston or CT (RI is ok too, but keep it in the Providence area). I'm especially good at strategy, operations, logistics, business development, and I can manage my way through moderate IT work. Resume upon request via pm or email. And as an added incentive, I'd be more than happy to help out your team. And bake you cookies. :) Thanks! |
Re: I need an internship!
It's shameless, but... it can't hurt.
I've been having trouble finding a summer internship as well (everyone wants coop or full time). I'm looking for a Mechanical Engineering internship, and would be willing to travel (although somewhere in New England would be nice). My particular areas of interest are Mechanisms and Mechanical Systems Design, and Mechanical Systems Analysis and Modelling. I'm willing and eager to learn everything/anything I can. I've had some experience, serving as a Mechanical Engineering Intern and CAD Draftsman for 3 summers. As you might know by now, I also enjoy designing robots for fun. Resume available upon request. John (ohh, and like Jess said, I'd be happy to mentor a FIRST team as well) |
Re: I need an internship!
Try applying to Hamilton Sundstrand or Pratt & Whitney, also try to think if you already know somebody who works there for an in-company reference. Bother HR enough, and they can pull through with a job for you (a summer coop got his job by calling them and reminding them every week, it was polite and not disrespectful). However, the programs don't typically know what kind of help they will need until a month or so before the interns would have to start work. So be patient.

Re: I need an internship!
My advice is to look outside the box because there's so many opportunities, especially for engineering fields, in areas that you might not expect.
Right now I'm working on my dozen or so cover letters for political internships this summer in Washington DC. Let me tell you, from going through the internship database for DC, there are so many cool internships for every field. They need people in the math and sciences at the CIA, Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, Department of the Navy, etc. It's now filled but there was a internship specifically for computer science students that paid a $5000 stipend for 10 weeks over the summer. It *almost* makes me wish I was engineer. Also, it's also seriously all about who you know (which I guess is why people are plugging themselves here). Some people think that having people pull strings or schmoozing with people underminds your merit but networking is a fine skill and there's nothing wrong with it. Just yesterday I was working at an alumni networking event because I'm a volunteer with them and I was randomly talking to someone in hospital recruiting. She randomly knew my mom and also randomly was a poli sci student who interned in DC. Lo and behold, I got my first internship offer for a Congressman. Moral of the story: Go out there and get connected. Good luck with your internship hunting all! |
