Hello,

1) Go to http://www.sevaa.com/order.php
2) Choose any plan; keep in mind that you will not be charged for overages.
3) Select 2checkout as the payment processor. If you can only pay (for the domain) via PayPal, please email promo@sevaa.com
4) When entering your name, also put your team number in parenthesis.
5) Enter "chiefdelphi" as the promo code


A couple things to note:

• If you choose to have your domain registered, there will be a $9.95 charge. If you?re short on cash, the circuitrunners can give you a sub domain (i.e. http://myteam.circuitrunners.com) free of charge
• If your site is extremely resource intensive (i.e. a busy forum), you will be asked to contribute in some way. Most sites won?t be very resource intensive.
• Any linkage back to Sevaa (http://www.sevaa.com ) would be greatly appreciated. If you?d like to start a banner campaign, please let them know via http://helpdesk.sevaa.com. Any mention of the circuitrunners team would also greatly be appreciated.
• Sevaa Group is an established hosting company (first licensed in 2001). They have servers in PA, and TX, for a speed test, please use http://soap.circuitrunners.com/uumap.tar.Z
• If you are found to be hosting non-FIRST sites, your account will subject to termination.
• All sites must adhere to the Sevaa TOS

wow, thanks alot for this service! i've been looking around for some free kind of hosting for a non-profit orginazation, but this is the best i've seen. I have one question tho. I signed up for the hosting, but i didnt buy the domain(i dont have a credit card) I am waiting for my advisor to buy the domain for the site, but i figured i would sign up now so i can start uploading files sooner. Is there any way I can but the domain at a later timer and have it linked to my account, or if you could sign me up for the domain and would just be in "debt"?

Just a reminder that openFIRST and FSN *do* offer free PHP hosting with and without openFIRST software. Just visit http://www.firstscouting.org and get in touch with one of the staff members and they will setup a free account as well.

Team SPAM is using the Sevaa server and will be online shortly - thanks for the heads up Randy.

A couple questions:

In addition to spamrobotics.com, we have spamrobotics.net as a registered domain. Is it allowable to link it to the .com account on sevaa somehow? (it's not a separate website, just a different domain name).

Apparently all the uploads have to go through the administrator id - how do other teams handle multiple people making updates through php backend without giving out the administrator password to everyone?

As we start using up storage space, how should we ask for more? We want to be gracious guests but we hope to really build up the website and I'd like the students to have an idea of what's available and what we might expect to pay for additional resources so they can decide.

Hey Gary,

To get the domain pointer (spamrobotics.net) setup or to request more disk space, just submit a ticket in the helpdesk.

If you have different people in charge of different sections of web site, you can fool with permissions and setup sym links so that not everyone needs to use the same password. Hopefully though you'd trust anyone puting data on the site with the admin password.

This is just the thing that we have been looking for! We were booted off of our server (they were probably doing some cleaning and deleted all our stuff...not like we were using their server with permission, anyway..) and I will have to talk to my team and my protege (since I became a mentor this year, I had to give up my title of "Webmaster") about this. If we can't get another server, I will recommend using this.

This is very gracious of the Sevaa group and will help many teams out. As far as I know, my team has been able to recover the scraps of our old website and repatched them together. All we need now is a server, and Sevaa might be our answer. Thank you very much.

The hosting account itself is free. You only pay if you need Sevaa to register a domain for you. That registration fee registers the domain for 1 year, and renewals are the same price.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have received about 5 signups for various FIRST teams using either promocode chiefdelphi or FIRST that were invalid in some way shape or form.

Typically this isn't an issue becuase we have a valid email address which we can use to contact you; however, for these more recent accounts, the email addresses have been invalid freebies (@yahoo.com, @hotmail.com). Hello DCA Fan,

There are 2 routes you can take with this:

1. Register for an account selecting that you "already own this domain and will change the name servers on my own". By selecting this option you will be responsible for changing the nameserves on your domain through your registrar. You will receive the appropriate name servers in your welcome email.

2. Register for an account selecting that you "already own this domain and would like to transfer it to Sevaa". This comes will full domain technical support. We will change your name servers for you and assist you with any domain management. There is typically a $15 charge associated with this, but if you can hold off on your order for another week or so, its *very* possible that we'll be running a promotion that you'll be able to take advantage of ;)

I use Sevaa for my own personal website (non FIRST related, I pay for hosting) and they have been great. I had some questions while setting up my site and they were very prompt in response to my email. I actually got a response within a few hours. If you need hosting for anything Sevaa is definitely a host I would recommend.

Team 568 will likely look to sevaa for hosting of our website.
This is my first year on team 568, and second year in FRC (I was on team 1885 previously) and we have our website done for the most part, and are just looking for hosting...

Randy, is there any limitation to the plan we can pick? personal, business, advanced? Also, I likely will not be the one registering the account, our mentor will be the one doing it, so let me know if you need me to PM you with his name or anything.

And, if we go with sevaa/circuitrunners, you can be sure we'll mention you in the website at the very least!



Since this is my first post on the forums, I'll take the time to introduce myself a bit.

I am on Team 568, the nerds of the north, in Anchorage, Alaska. This year is my first year on Team 568, and we are participating in the FIRST Fuel Cell Challenge, and will be attending the Silicon Valley regional. Team 568 is located at Dimond High School, (yes, "dimond" is spelled correctly, lol) but I do not attend Dimond, but commute in from another school in the area. We are currently sponsoring a FLL team at Chugiak elementary.
Before Team 568, I was on Team 1885, Battlefield Robotics in Haymarket, Virginia. Last year was our rookie year, and we attended the Richmond regional, the Palmetto regional, and the Championship event, and took the Rookie All-Star award at all three events. Our robot like never ever worked, so naturally, we did horrible at the championship, lol.
But, I had such a GREAT time and experience with FIRST, that when I found out I was moving to Alaska, (dad is military) I immediately hit up the FIRST website to see if there were any FIRST teams in the area. Luckily, I found one not too far away, team 568.
I did not work on the website on team 1885, but decided to take the opportunity to head up the web design for team 568. Since I have no html or programming experience, I decided to use a site builder program to get the website made.

I need to talk to the powers that be, but I suspect that team 11 will sign up soon. Our freebie (grr, Mr. DiCicco. Why?) host recently gave up PHP support, so our website, though already pathetic, is now pathetic and crippled. We need a new host before we can get the new page up and running. I have little doubt that you'll hear from us soon, assuming leadership decides to go for it.

We don't limit your accounts; unless, in the rare case, your site is very resource intensive. Considering we don't limit SOAP, I doubt you're site will be an issue.

I'd reccommend going with the advanced plan.

Does Sevaa's free FIRST hosting allow shell access through SSH (or telnet I guess...cleartext passwords FTL)? There's an asterisk or two saying "Additional requirements apply".

*nix server? IIS server?

If some flavor of Unix, crontab entries allowed for automated backups/scripting? Similar type of support/functionality under IIS? Something more sophisticated than "ZIP/RAR/TARBZIP2 ALL FILEZ INTO ONE GIANT BLOB" would be ideal :)

CVS or SVN support for code management?

Does 20GB storage still count as "don't limit your accounts"? 50GB? 500GB? :yikes: Video and photos can add up incredibly quick (Doug Hitchcock would love to store video clips somewhere other than his hard drive or a truckload of DVD's I'll bet)

Given that this is shared hosting, how bad would the free servers loading be? I've experienced other hosts who allow huge BW/month numbers but response time and actual transfer speeds make it laughable to imagine ever being able to hit the cap.

Not to look a gift horse in the mouth (outdated idioms yay!), but I'm comparing this to another free hosting package and would like to make an informed decision.

All in all, companies like Sevaa who give back to the community should be applauded for their service. Unfortunately there is no "clapping smiley" or I'd give you one here :]

That was a long post ... so here are the abridged replies
*We require a copy of a government issued ID for shell access (SSH)
*The servers used for FIRST are all RHEL running the Ensim control panel which has its own backup capabilities cofigurable via a GUI
*CVS/SVN - implemented it in the past. You will be charged to use it
*SOAP is currently using 21GB.
*Load isn't an issue

We are really here to try to help out the smaller teams that are running on a really small budget. If you have all of this video footage, chances are, you can afford to pay for the hosting of it. Feel free to email me at rkent@sevaa.com to work out a more managed plan.

The things we'd LIKE to do with our hosting are always more than what we can AFFORD to do with our hosting. Hence the long post about things we'd like to be able to do :)

The job of a FIRST mentor is to provide students the opportunity to learn about technology and engineering. I'm trying to choose a host with minimal costs and maximum capabilities to teach students as many things as possible. The goal isn't just to get the best deal possible and hand it to the students, but to ensure that they understand the decision making process. This way they're equipped to make the same sort of decisions when in a few years THEIR boss asks them to find a provider :)

If you're looking for something where you have enough access to teach the students various things, send me an email thomasp@blarglefish.com. I have a VPS that has more diskspace/bandwidth than my team needs. You'd have the ability to run whatever you need and as far as diskspace is concerned, I could probably give you 1gb to start, if you need more we could work something out.

i dont know if im just not seeing it, or the site's been changed in some way, but after entering the promo code and going to calculate total, the package fee still shows up, not just the domain fee... has anyone successfully registered since the code was renewed?
