Big Mike still lives.Below is a picture of him playing with an old prototype in the shop this week. But even he can't resist the pictured device. Your hypothesis is pretty good- the device does stop the machine from eating small children. BTW- those two halves of the structure pivot on axes with sensors and can open into a w-shape. And we didn't get any stains on it.....

w-shape huh? well since you have looked at it moving vertically one role it may be used for is trying to block the horizontal bar, but i don't believe that is nearly all it will be used for.....the nature of the curved shape could probably do a bunch of things for you, but I will just wait and see if my ideas are correct....nice job

based on its size and shape

I think its your robots rib cage

and the bot itself must be at least 30 feet tall :ahh:

time for you guys to stop what you are doing and read the manual (rules)

FIRST doesnt have an 'unlimited' class!

Stainless doesn't always imply heavy...

There are a lot of thin wall stainless tubes there. You can easily find them in 1.5 OD with .035 walls. These tubes would be strong like bull but only weigh about 1/2 lbs per foot.

Steel is basically 3 times heavy, but it is also 3 times stiffer and 3 times as high of a yeild strength (i.e. 3 times stronger).

Steel (stainless or otherwise) can be a good choice.

I don't use very much on the robots I have a say about, but I don't know what their machine is supposed to do...

Oh No :ahh: 3 times heavy? :ahh: 3 times stiffer? :ahh: This might end up being a muder machine, a higher version of evil machine :ahh:

Big Mike has decided to go out for the local semi-pro football team and this is his facemask.

Do I win?
