Locking the Fisher Price Motor
 

So we are able to hoist ourselves using a smaller wench and our fisher price motor. My next question to the FIRST community is what is your opinion on creating a lock on the motor so it doesnt release when the power is cut.

And thanks a bucnh for the ideas on my previous post dealign with our wench problem.

well you deffenety wana make it lock ( i can turn the fischer price moter backwords by hand, so can a 130 pound robot ) the question is how. you could have a purly mechnical oneway rachet idea, or you could have a mechanical/electrical idea with a solonoid ( not a spike ) or a servo even to move a locking pin/bar into place. some other things that spring to mind are a one-way cable slip ( remember in the matrix, elevator sceen ) or even a friction brake.

I'm glad we got your wench problem taken care of, those prostitutes can be pests.

Oh, wait a sec..you must mean winch......We use a ratchet on a shaft coming out of 2 FP's...works real nice

Thanks, i'll have to see about the servo with the locking pin/bar because our arm has to do a few more things before we go for the bar, so a one way lock wouldnt help much.

just use a version of our 4oz break idea i do not have a pic on me but someone else may it is simple but extramly effective. If anyone has a pic of our breaks post it

you may want to look into mountain climbing equipment because they have many differant types of locks for the rope so they dont fall.

Use a store bought ratchet, like the one you use to tighten all your bolts with. Just hook it up to a motor and voila!

Our team used a combination between the window motors and the fisher-price motor. The window motors will NOT backdrive. But they weren't quite powerful enough to overcome all the friction in our system to be used alone though. So we now have two window motors and a fisher-price motor all hooked together to lift us up. We don't have any complicated gearing or anything. It is a very simple and elegant design. I haven't seen it yet, but I have heard that it works very well and very fast.
