Re: Use of non-autodesk software?
In my work, I've found Maya much better for organics. Max for me seems to be for more rigid mechanics, although I do enjoy creating characters in it a lot.

Re: Use of non-autodesk software?
Well, the question is, can we use other programs in addition or not? I don't know much about 3d Studio MAX, but I can use Lightwave quite effectively. What I hope to do for this years animation is to use both, and teach both, to the other members of the animation team. Also, we'd most likely end up using Photoshop for texturing and possibly DFX+ for post production. I've read about a lot of animations that used everything from wings 3d to Houdini, but I'm unsure as to if they managed to get in or not. Basically, thats what this post is about :) .

Re: Use of non-autodesk software?
Myself, I have never used any professional 3D modeling/animation program but I have used anim8or and that toubht me the basics of 3D modeling/animation. I've heard 3DS max was pretty easy to learn. I kinda agree though that you should use some programs to do some things like texturing and sounds. Hopefully people won't mind. I mean, they don't have a way of proving, do they? ^^;;;

As to using other software, the Auto-Desk visualization award is for a 30 second animation created in 3DS Max. I would figure, based on the name, that you would need to use Auto-Desk software. It may be acceptable to use your preference of software for modeling (other than Inventor) but you may have some trouble importing the files into 3DS... |
