I will take a few guesses at this secret weapon.

#1. To knock off the 2x multiplier ball from a goal full of points.
#2. To hang. (Greatly doubt it)
#3. To stop anybody else from hanging.
#4. To go fishing! LOL! =)

Know what happens when you reel a fishing lure all the way up to the tip of the rod and then keep reeling?

I think they're using this as a way to raise a hook up to the bar at a controlled speed (<10ft/s).
