If I'm correct, the Sovereign Bank Arena will be the venue for next year, at least.

I just wanted to point something out abuot the hanging of 11 on 237. My team, which made the mistake of underestimating all our opponents, and thinking all we had to worry about was 237, asked about the SAME thing before hand. The head judge said that as long as we were hanging from a part of the bot that was above/even with the bar, that it would count.

It confused me to see him give a different response when it actually happened.

Whatever the response It should be consistent with the definitions of hanging and supported laid out in the manual. If you were hook on to 237 such that when they are removed you would fall into place as hanging you should be awarded the points, ie you hook goes over their hook and over the bar. If you a solely attached to 237 and would not be hanging if they weren't there you would not be awarded the points. I'm sure the refs used this and saw that 11 would not be hanging if 237 was removed.

The awards ceremony was good, and had a lot of fans cheering from one particular "Everything I need to know I learned in FIRST" poem donated to be read here by RAGE 173 from CT.
Just so you know, we didn't give the poem to anyone specifically to be read at the Mid-Atlantic Regional, but it was really nice to hear it read. We had a few copies of it in our pit area. We'll make up some more for UTC Regional; will post it on our website, and a copy is available in the CD White paper section. We're glad you enjoyed it.

Re: New Jersey Regional Status

Though I mentioned some of this in the Congrats Thread, I feel the need to repeat at least a portion of it.

As one of the main scouters and head of Stategy, many of you teams awed and scared the crap out of me. I could not have prayed for better good luck on our part, and there were many many close calls. Thanks to our alliance partners (Robbe Robotics (56) and Panther Robotics (303)), and the many teams that had us too nervous to scream in the stands.

I had a few favorites, but I have to agree with others that 1403 had an impressive robot. One of our engineers called it the "gumball machine", a name I found wildly appropriate. Also, I think both team 219 and 1257 did amazingly, given the fact that both were almost entirely student built. Thanks to 195 giving like to the graveyard known as the stands, and 869 for their amazing human player which I had the pleasure to meet. I fear that most of the teams in Annapolis and UTC will feel both cursed and blessed to have these NJ vets entering their ranks. Keep up the hard work!

There is no question about the ruling on "11 hanging on 237"- the Head referee's call was correct with with way the game rules are written. We had the rule book opened and reviewed by a second head referee at this regional.
Team 11's hanger was not even with the bar.

The correct ruling was made. The defenition of HANGING says directly SUPPORTED by the bar. Even in the scenario that you posed, the robot would be SUPPORTED by the bar, but not DIRECTLY supported, so it wouldn't be HANGING.

Wow!
I don't remember if I had a chance to talk to anyone on 219, but I had no idea. You guys are amazing. While we were scouting, you had better believe our legs were shaking when we saw you guys. Your robot rocked, your hp was great, and the drivers, wow.
More than a few times, all of 237 had our fingers crossed doing the shimmy dance, hoping...
You guys gave us a run for our money. Good luck in your other comps.

We were a bit disappointed that we were not picked, we had some really bad luck with alliance pairing, it seemed that every robot we got paired with had a problem. We had a robot that ran out of the field and got DQd. We had at least two partners who flipped over, and another 3 or 4 who had driving problems. Losing the last two matches on Saturday did not help. I hope we get better luck with pairings next regional. I hope those of you who go to Annapolis look for us, we were one of the few consistent cappers at NJ.
Good luck at your next regional.

Im sorry that you guys did not get picked. You were certianly on a short list for our team. Given another 1/2 hr to choose, and things could have gone the other way with our picks.

As for 237- you guys rocked. You had an amazing bot, and we knew from the beginning that you would be up there. We did talk to you guys quite a few times actually, and at one point, had you guys considering us for an alliance.

It was a bit disappointing to finish in such a dramatic fashion (5 inches more on our pole , and we would be in the semi finals!), and unfortunately the end of our year. But it is the best our team has ever done, and infact, the first time my school has ever been seeded better than 40 or so. So we seniors leave a tough legacy to live up to ;) I wish you guys all luck with the rest of your competititons!
