Re: Good Movies to Watch
Another really funny movie is:
Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail That is such a funny movie. Oh, I also like Pirates of the Carabean |
Re: Good Movies to Watch
Well, since this is for a trip, that kinda rules out some of the best-made films like American History X, Requiem for a Dream, or Shawshank Redemption - those aren't really sitting-on-a-bus-and-watch movies. You need one of those movies without too much of a real in-depth plot - I'd suggest the classic Pulp Fiction, but somehow I doubt that would fly with your teachors or advisors.
LotR, maybe, but the bus ride would kinda ruin the atmosphere. I'd suggest (like many other before) Pirates and Holy Grail. Ocean's 11 would also be a good choice. Dr. Strangelove is a classic, but if you don't have a lot of crazy global-dictator still-living-in-the-cold-war-era type of students, most of the bus will be crying to turn it off. Robin Hood: Men in Tights or History of the World Part I are good for some cheap laughs (Spaceballs is good, but not funny after the first time), and Shrek and Finding Nemo are always good fall-backs. Of course if you've completely given up on finding a movie with any sort of decent plot at all, you can always turn on Starship Troopers. |

Re: Good Movies to Watch
Movies we have veiwed on the bus trip the last couple of years is Princess Mononoke(one of my all time favorites), Orange County (not as bad as I thought it would be), Cool Runnings (a very good film to inspire your team for FIRST because it's about going the distance in spite of your level of talent or whether or not you belong and succeding whether you win or not) Monty Python and the Holy Grail(an all time classic), Remember the Titans(not as agonizing as I thought it would be), Patch Adams(pure agony. Next time they show it I'm jumping off the bus), Warriors of the Wind(AKA NAusica, Valley of the Wind, the so-called butchered American version. It's still great).
This year we have Drumline(way cool, if simle movie) Signs (Good scary fun), Minority Report (an underrated Spilberg film), WHo Framed Roger Rabbit(an all-time classic), Raiders of the Lost Ark(Spielberg at his best) and Appollo 13(great film. even if you still know how it ends). The kids will bring some of their own movies too. So long as it isn't R rated (it's a school trip). I'm bringing my own DVDs to watch on my wife's laptop. Read or Die, Cowboy Bebop the Movie and the series, Gross Point Blank, Memento, The Frighteners (What Peter Jackson did before LOTR), and Akira. I plan on leaving the hotel room anyways in CLeveland. I had enough of the Rock n' Roll HOF. |

How about The Scorpion King? But only because the gorgeous Rock is in it. *sigh* LOL, i really liked that one movie, it was gory but interesting...something widowmaker. K-19 Widowmaker i think it is. That is a good movie. |

Re: Good Movies to Watch
I happen to like MP's Life of Brian, Dumb and Dumber, The Legend of Drunken Master (Jackie Chan!), Austin Powers, Black Sheep. Movies like that are great for bus trips.

Re: Good Movies to Watch
I happen to like A Walk to Remember. It's really sad, but I like it nevertheless. I am not a big movie watcher though
|
Re: Good Movies to Watch
Hmm...I'll list some favorites even though a couple have already been named, such as the Lion King. I mean...how can you go wrong with the Lion King? Alright, the movie that personally goes with me everywhere (in fact, was recently with me at our first competition to Trenton) is Cruel Intentione. However, it's rated R and I would not recommend allowing your students to watch this. Great movie though...for personal viewing. A movie I do recommend watching with the students though is Sixth Sense. Also Resident Evil or The Order if you're into weird kind of movies like that. I am not sure of the rating on this but I've heard Bowling for Colombine is an awesome movie. I recommend watching yourself before letting any students watch it. Just in case since I havn't seen it just yet. A great movie, if you don't mind crying a little, that's also inspiring and has the spirit of FIRST to it is Pay It Forward. It's the only movie I've ever actually watched and thought "Oh wow...I really see what a difference each person makes on this each." It's a fablous movie. The only other recommendation I can make is to try and stay with Disney Movies. They tend to please everyone of all ages. Oh yes, if you like anime and liked Princess Monoke (sp?), try Spirited Away as well. It's suppose to be great.
|
Re: Good Movies to Watch
Spirited Away is def an excellent movie to watch. Even my mom (who despises all anime  ) loved it and watched it multiple times. I'd suggest Donnie Darko because it's an amazing movie, but it's not really busride material. Same goes for Boondock Saints , to really enjoy them you have to watch them with your full attention. Anyway, my personal favorite busride movie is The Brave Little Toaster . Talking toasters, robotics, it seems fairly appropriate.

Re: Good Movies to Watch
anything but Cool Runnings a.k.a. the most obnoxious overplayed feild trip movie of all time
Now, Best in Show, that is a quality cinematic experience :D |
Re: Good Movies to Watch
Bring the Firefly DVD set. That's 14 episodes of sci-fi goodness (without being very sci-fi-ish which makes it really good). You fans of Buffy and Angel will like it too. It's done by Joss Whedon.
|
Re: Good Movies to Watch
Oh my god! My favorite movie when i was little was The Brave Little Toaster (besides the little mermaid)
I'd like to bring The Breakfast Club on the bus with us... i'm pretty sure i could coerce byrne into letting us play it... i mean, it's a quality movie, full of teen angst! :p I'm also bringing Footloose and Dirty Dancing just because i like sappy movies with dancing... god i love patrick swazey (sp?) hahahaha |

I have Buffy on DVD and I also have the first season of LaFemme Nikita (the USA network series) on DVD. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Peta Wilson are my favorite actresses. |

Re: Good Movies to Watch
Boondock Saints
Equilibrium Both could be passable as awful excuses to kill people, however, Equilibrium is an amazing account of the books 1984, Fahrenheit 451, and Animal Farm all snowballed in to a Matrix feel. The plot basis is that after the third world war, a drug is introduced that suppresses all emotion and creativity. The idea behind it is, no feelings, no anger, no war. One of the 'Clerics' or the main enforces of the emotion pills accidentally misses a dose. The one dose he misses out on and he sees what he's been missing out on. Boondock Saints is another great movie. Basically, two young Irish kids in America accidentally stumble into killing two Russian mafioso types. After that, they decide that these people are bad and deserve not to live for their sins. They basically hunt down other awful people. |
Re: Good Movies to Watch
O yeah cant forget "Dogma"
