Re: Best in show at NH Regional was ....?

one thing I would like to point out about team 138's bot is that we did not use all of it's capabilities. during the practice rounds at nats we may experiment winching all the way up and blocking goals, or capping our own goal simultaneously winching.

all of our tests indicate that manipulation of the large balls and the bonus balls are easily acheived using the carbon-fiber claw.

what you saw at the BAE regionals was just a taste of 138. you will be getting more ;)

im so sad that noone mentioned us :'( we were really consistent hangers, 7-8 matches we hung. we even pushed the dragoons out of the way to prevent them from getting all those balls! we had one sick drive, that noone could push us around.

I'm sad you hyped yourself in this thread. :(

Greg, you've been around for a while.
I had thought you to have the maturity and modesty to be better than this.

"Ask anyone on our team, we're the best."

Yeah, real impressive.

Poor John :( ....You need to cheer up boy :) ! 229 had the coolest drivetrain. Simple two speed tranmistion , Rock solid design all the way around...Few minor tweak and there on there way to being unstopable. :D Good luck in Long Island John..

Haha, our team has concluded that OUR bot was the most 'ghetto' looking bot there. Having built it with a few hacksaws, 2 handdrills, and an angle grinder (we didn't even have a hammer until week 4) we made something that works, but it doesn't look well machined. And that's because it's not. We'll be the first to say that the only thing special about our bot is all the hard work that went into it. And even that is duplicated in other teams.

Not to go against you John, but I think it's ok that he hyped himself. After 6 weeks of long building, i think it alright to gloat about your bot. Everyone should have pride in their bot. Now I'm sure everyone would like to brag about how well they did, but some can hold it in. I know i would feel kinda quesey if i saw one of these types of threads and looked for my team number, but saw nothing (actually, it happened)

John i know your a good guy( great robot builder, not so good bowling instructor ;) ),

and when i posted i did in no way mean to gloat about how good we were or things of that nature, all i meant was that it kind of startled me, that we were the second overall draft pick, and we werent mentioned. im not whining, or anything, i just wanted to share my thoughts, i did congratulate my picks, but just showing my enthusiasm toward the hard work the kids did to the bot.

...hence the reason why I thought this thread was unfair to begin with. Only mentioning three teams? Come on...there was more than three good teams at BAE, and those three being listed put everyone in an awkward position...both the ones that were listed (because they don't want to disregard the other teams not mentioned), and the ones that weren't listed (who have to deal with the disappointment of not being considered "good enough"...sure, it may not matter much in the long run since it only is one person's ideas, but it is a public forum and still hurts).

Maybe I'm just rambling, but I didn't think this thread was fair, and what I thought was going to happen just happened. Let's just put this behind us and work on having more constructive discussion for this next round of regionals.

I agree it's rather wrong to put just a few teams in a poll when so many teams were great.

Personally, I think the show of robots at the BAE Regional was awesome. When my teammate and I went around to look for possible alliances we struggled to make a decision and had to narrow it down by very specific aspects, one of them strangely being the attitude and spirit of the team. If I had to give an award to my favorite team, I'd have to give several.

I have to say the most impressive thing about this years selection is the the fact almost all teams do something. Last year turned into a pushing match, but this year -- very awesome -- hanging robots, expanding ball collectors, huge arms, and much more.

so let's all chill out. jessica is right. we got other things to focus on.

not to stand up for minic just because he is on my team (because i constantly rag on him and make fun of him constantly, but with FIRST and all the gracious professionalism, i choose not to list all of his faults and flaws) bit a lot of people dont see that there is also an "other" category there, and well, i agree there were some great robots out there (personally i liked the dragoons, cant remember the team number for the life of me, but it was the pvc monstrosity that got most of the balls, and was damned impressive to me), but he only chose the top 3 seeded teams...

oh, and for best in show as an honorable mention, i'd like to mention WPI, being able to be on the bar and block the goal was great, and amazing to see, just wish they had a few less problems mechanically between matches

Lol. It's great when a team can look at their bot and even though it may not be as amazing as some of the stuff you see at competitions, they dont care.

Not trying to start a debate here, but I think that we on 350 had the most "ghetto" robot. Using metal and wood on one bot, heck, our ball collector was half metal, half warped bargain wood from the "$0.50 wood" pile at Home Depot. Fixing all of the broken wood beams with string and zip ties. Using parts after our recently scraped arm as blockers to keep us from entering the corral.

I have 3 favorite bots from the BAE competition. 131 for their elegant looking bot that had the coolest drive train. I loved their hanging method too, they couldnt drift back down to the floor when power was cut off. 69 was just plain awesome. 1073 was amazingly small, fast, and effective at ball herding.

I have yo go with 69 for best show. It was just so much fun to watch that thing roam around the field the way it did. Best of luck in CALI!

I also really like watching 58's auto modes and 1350's defensive driving.

as i look at it now...i realized they only mentioned the first 3 seeded teams...

I chose other.

I find it hard to believe there were only 3 teams at the NH regional.
